:wave evening all ,my husbands workmate has found himself a new dickiebird, & he says that she's got a centre cockpit boat called sea otter, a 42footer he says , ive had a look on google but all i can find in that name is barges, has there been other boats that was called that ,i think he said she's got it on the coventry canal,  lori    :Stinky

Hi Lori,

 

From what I remember after seeing these at the boat show a few years back.. Sea otter is the company.. they specialised in (or still do perhaps) aluminium boats.. i'm sure they did  "work boats" as well as narrow boats.. although I believe they moved to focus just on narrow boats. If the boat is on the canal (and being quite long) I'd bet its a narrow boat.

Sea Otter Built by Macgregor 26x in 1997 - Length 7.9 metres ( 25 feet 11 inches ) - Beam 2.4 metres ( 7 feet 10 inches ) Powered by a Petrol Outboard engine with a power of 4 HP. Registered with number F017327 as a Non Hire Annual. Last registration recorded on Wednesday 1st April 2009.

Sea Otter Built by Seamaster in 1965 - Length 8.55 metres ( 28 feet 1 inch ) - Beam 2.9 metres ( 9 feet 6 inches ) hull colour WHITE , superstructure colour WHT/BL Powered by 2 Diesel Inboard engines with a total power of 120 HP. Registered with number L5227 as a Motor boat (Lincolnshire rivers only). Last registration recorded on Friday 27th April 2007.

Sea Otter Built by Tod in 1949 - Length 6 metres ( 19 feet 8 inches ) Powered by a Petrol Inboard engine with a power of 10 HP. Registered with number M20656 as a Powered Annual 1.5m To 7.6m. Last registration recorded on Saturday 28th May 2011.

Sea Otter Built by Springer Uk Ltd - Length 9.14 metres ( 30 feet ) - Beam 2.08 metres ( 6 feet 10 inches ) - Draft 0.5 ( 1 foot 8 inches ). Metal hull, power of 10 BHP. Registered with number 64077 as a Powered. Last registration recorded on Sunday 29th May 2011.

The Sea Otter company did build some cruisers about 15 years ago and I believe on was a centre cockpit. They were aircraft grade aluminium with water ballast.

I think they did experience a few financial problems and now concentrate on narrow boats but still of aluminium rather than steel.

Hi all wd went down to sawley to the plank & leggit pub for lunch & popped into the marina next door, just looking at boats for sale, as you do lol, & look what we saw , a sea otter lol, it looked quite a nice little barge, but not my thing lol, & look what else we saw, post-296-0-03373400-1416935480_thumb.jpg an alphacraft boat for sale too, not a bad price either at£29.000 , not sure how he got it up to sawley though , the lock down the river both ways is on the narrow side, lori
