  1. Hi Lori There is the Ivy House Hotel which is lovely and has a fantastic restaurant however I imagine pricier than the Wherry, however at this time of the year may have offers. There is also a very nice looking guesthouse opposite the Wine Lodge, the Mill House which looks nice and clean http://www.themillhousebedandbreakfast.co.uk/ http://www.ivyhousecountryhotel.co.uk/ Or you could stay on the seafront at Lowestoft, only one stop on the train from Oulton Broad. The Hotel Victoria is very popular, whilst we haven't stayed there, we have done loads of weddings and always been impressed by the service, food and cleanliness of the place. http://www.ivyhousecountryhotel.co.uk/ The other place worth considering is Fritton House owned by Adnams http://adnams.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/ ... ochure.pdf We had some friends stay at the Wherry some time ago, and although they upgraded to 'deluxe' were less than impressed with the room. The carvery however is very good.
  2. Sorry Neil, I have to disagree re claxons...... There is more than enough room for a couple of grandchildren to run riot as they should while on holiday to let off steam. There is a great park at Oulton Broad and another at Beccles as well as the pool, outdoor play area and nature reserve at WRC and loads of interesting, informative places to get them curious, such as the bird trail walk at Rockland Broad, the windmill, Hardley Mill, one of our favourites although pricey now to moor, just before Cantley, the ruins at Burgh Castle, etc, etc.... lots to get children interested in.... It has to teach them more about their country and heritage than sitting round a pool on one of the Costas??? And.... for me, there is nothing nicer than seeing claxons enjoying the Broads..... they are the future tourist industry after all! As far as places to eat, I wouldn't disagree with any of the recommendations, Surlingham Ferry, Coldham Hall and Dukes Head, Somerleyton all excellent. Also consider Dilraj (can get takeaway) or White Horse, Loddon and Chedgrave, chinese takeaway at Beccles (the harbourmaster will give you the details) and the Wherry Carvery at Oulton Broad.
  3. Hi Annie Good for you . So glad you have decided on something so worthwhile. Love and best wishes for your studies. Suzanne
  4. I still think it is well worth it in not having to go to Stansted, Gatwick or Luton. Just wish there were more destinations to choose from.
  5. Hi Lori We are just back from Santorini, not the Broads this time and I really enjoyed reading about your hols and some lovely piccies too. Thanks for sharing.
  6. It is a lovely sight to see when all the ships are in, flags flying.

Definitely Breydon. It can be calm at sunset when the conditions are right.
  8. I too have enjoyed reading your tale Neil. Thanks
  9. Hi Jonny I have no idea on either of those things... it's a long time since I went to Yarmouth in the summer season! However, I would imagine your best bet would be Regent Road which is the long road down to the seafront from the town centre full of tat shops. Hope you all have a great holiday.
  10. The Bear and Bells is under the same ownership as The Bell at St Olaves and The Plough at Blundeston.
  11. Nice Idea, although it won't work this time as we would have to get the boat back with Lydia on Sunday ready for school on Monday morning.
  12. At the moment, we will have to say no as Adam has a wedding show on the Sunday Sometimes, fingers crossed, these dates change and if so will let you know
  13. Good read Neil. I have seen boats mudweighted in the eastern bit you mentioned at Oulton.
  14. FYI I have on my desk a business card from a petroleum company who may be interested in filling a job-lot of boats from one tanker at a fraction of what you pay at Brooms.
  15. Nice try! Thinking of a trade-up exchange then Ian?
  16. Does anyone know what Brooms are charging currently please? Thanks.
  17. Welcome home. Hopefully catch up with you both at some point over the bank holiday.
  18. Well done girls. Bet your muscles have felt it today!
  19. Enjoying this. Thanks Dave.
