  1. Ian, Hi Sorry I've just caught this but on behalf of us all we hope she's soon back on song. We've had a pretty wonderful two days and the trip to Geldeston Locks' Inn to day was just the icing! Let's hope you'll be able to make the Autumn Meet . First w/e in Oct at Coldham hall. We all look forward to seering you.
  2. And for those of you who do make it I've just organised a Happy Hour (5-7pm) tomorrow in the Royal Oak.. IPA at £2/pint and IPA Gold/Golden Hen at £2.70/pint... Large glass of wine at £3.50... Next it's a lunchtime visit to Geldeston Locks on Sunday... depart 11.00 prompt onboard the good ship Friday Girl.. Well take as many as drops the PL by up to 6ins... see us Sat afternoon when we'll try it out.
  3. Sorry, James, been offline for 24hours.. only pick up wifi in the Royal Oak, here in Beccles.
  4. Only a few days now........... for those staying until Sunday afternoon there might be the odd place left onboard Friday Girl for a trip up to Geldeston Locks for Sunday Lunchtime drinkies....
  5. Oh, come on, Jonny. You know full well you'll get under GH brtidges at MLWN easily at 11ft, let alone 9........
  6. Absolutely, Alan...... you might pay a bit more but you get what you pay for!
  7. The HarperCollins does put together just about all the info you need for cruising/visiting the Norfolk Broads. With local knowledge and years of pottering you probably wouldn't need it but for an occasional visitor I reckon it's an extremely useful guide! At £5.99 and free delivery it's a steal at Amazon Books.
  8. We popped in to Brooms yesterday for a pump-out... yes, I know, they charge £16... but it's a heck of a job they do with two long flush-outs and twice the amount of blu you get anywhere else. They've dropped the price of red-diesel by 9p/L to £1.19/L! Is this a first on The Broads? So we filled up as we wish to support them as much as possible because if they close their fuel/pump-out facility (which is not just a remote possibility at the moment) it will leave a huge gap in the Southern Broads cruising area.

  14. Welcome aboard from us. We visited that part of the Northern Broads last year and didn't have any problems mooring in September. You will be filled with water before you leave Riccos and for a 4-day visit I doubt you'll need a refill.. unless you have some very squeaky-clean vices!
  15. Danny, Hi We have over 20 years experience of sea-sailing from the Channel Isles to Denmark and to-and-fro across the North Sea. I previously raced for the RAF in 470's; so do know a bit about yots and dinghies... Why anyone should want to sail up and down the rivers beats me but each according to their own! Last Sunday in a fresh Westerly we encountered quite a few yotties racing up the Yare just past Cantley... I slowed down and hugged the RHS as they were tacking hither and thither into wind. One tacked on the otherside and remained sationary in my line of sight; so I stopped. He them moved forwards (in my line of sight) and would have safely just passed in front of us when a gust veered the wind and again had him pointing directly at us... It very soon became apparent that he hadn't seen us or was either just plain daft or bloody-minded and I put on full reverse power to get out of his way... Thanks? Not likely..... a mouthful of invective and a fist-salute as he turned just ahead of us... his stern missed us by 5-6ft. I mention this beacause if I can get into situations like this then how on earth will some poor hirer cope?
  16. And for those who haven't seen it here's Gav's vid from last year's meet: Just a reminder of how last years meet at Beccles went!: It goes to show that you just can't keep good 'uns down!
  17. Thanks, Leo... if I still had a gas-guzzler (sorry, Salties) I'd certainly go that way!
  18. Not that easy, Gary as you then have to pay the 60% rate to the Revenue men and I'm not too sure how you'd do that.............
  19. Or probably much less as that was a quote for 1000L.........
  20. But I am quoting prices that I can get now if I had a big enough tank to put it in! So they will be buying at the prices I quoted!
  21. That's a very interesting reply in an internatoinal context but I am only concerned with small businesses on the Broads who really can't say "Petrochemical companies always have a good story in our industry; Oil is decreasing "yes sir but there is an issue with Naptha supply and this is impacting our costs", exchange rates etc etc when all that fails they 'decide' who is going to switch off capacity and invoke 'Force Majeure' (An unexpected or uncontrollable event ) lack of capacity means demand is still there and prices remain at reasonable levels, when demand picks up they 'turn up the wick' and so it goes on." I am not going to call it profiteering but it does have an unsavoury taste to it...
  22. I note that since early Apri, when red diesel was at 73p/L, it's down to 62p/L today ( figures quoted from BoilerJuice.com). So when are we going to see a reduction on Broads prices? (Or indeed, anywhere else). They seem happy enough to put them up when their supplies go up in price...........
