  1. Well talking about food in our younger days and remembered cockling in our younger days at Wells going over to the East hills raking for cockles taking them home and boiling up in a big pan with potatoes and samphire. So that was todays project not cockling ( too old for that malarky ) but buying some raw cockles and cooking at home. Departed Holt in the trusty Jimbo, quick call at Morrisons for gin and prosecco on offer, then too Wells, no parking so couldnt try Frarys on the quay, along the coast no raw cockles to be had oh well back to Holt, into fishmonger for a bit of fish instead, and what do we spy a big bowl of raw cockles one kilo bought and healthy bunch of samphire and some raw king prawns. Cockles into cold water to flush through for few hours. Cockles, samphire and prawns cooked served with boiled baby potatoes delicious, happy memories to busy eating forgot to take pics sorry but heres the scraps Ray & Carole
  2. welcome from us too Ray & Carole
  3. Despite our best efforts I am afraid we are not going to be able to attend as Carole is just not up for going out at the moment. They have changed her pain meds this week so hopefully that may improve the situation. any way hope you all have a good time, the weather is looking good for you and we will be thinking of you, Just a pity the webcam is not working Ray & Carole
  4. Well spent a nice week at Wroxham opposite the hotel, weather was mostly good, hot when sun out but a cool breeze when cloudy, a few heavy showers but managed to watch the usual fracas at the bridge and hire boats battling with the Broads Tours boats most days Big disappointment not a single NBN burgee, window poster ( had ours in the window ) or car sticker spotted the whole week Ray & Carole
  5. Ah early teens, got my first job in a certain quayside store in Wells next the Sea. Saved my pittance and eventually purchased a sheet of 8 x 4 exterior ply and a couple of lengths of 2 x 1 pine. This was lovingly converted into an extremely dodgy pram dinghy, a mast was adapted from an aluminium tv pole, a bed sheet lugsail and bamboo spars completed the rig, the hull leaked like a seive, the rudder was a complete disaster and was dispensed with but it sailed me around Wells harbour quite successfully by judicious trimming of the sails and the daggerboard, and continuous bailing and I used to bring home a good bucketfull of cockles most weekends, happy days, and then I went to sea Ray

  9. Guess so, sad really, just wanted to show Carole whats on offer, as she really didnt want to struggle round to see the board outside, they don't even have a menu in the apartment handbook which seems a bit short sighted, anyway their loss, plenty of other places to spend our cash Ray & Carole
  10. Well arrived in Wroxham this afternoon, walked around to the Wherryman all very smart, went inside and joy of joys same grumpy lady as last time, no greeting or any thing only "eating in or out", said we are staying at the apartment on the corner, could we kindly borrow a menu so we can decide what to eat tonight, no dont have enough you cant take one, noticed big pile on counter, not a hygiene issue true but customer relations issue for sure, guess where we wont be patronising any time soon. fish and chips from the chinese were excellent tho Ray & Carole

  22. Looks like standard water bags, we use them to load test equipment offshore, they usually have a quick release dump system so if all goes t*ts up you can dump the weight. you would also need fairly accurate stability information for your boat and a careful stability calculation to get the right amount of weight into the bags or you could end up in trouble Ray
