  1. Mark! Really looking forward to it actually! jane
  2. Yehbut... The OH and i are on the southern broads for a week in September, and we're thinking about hiring a dingy; he can sail - and i'm a complete noob! Advice? (apart from "wear a lifejacket" - he won't drag me onboard without one!) Where best to go? in advance! Bestest advice ever.... J x
  3. Thanks for this link Iain - works really well!
  4. Hi Alan, It will be somewhere around the Midlands, we aim to do a little touring around that area first as we haven't yet decided! My aged folks live in Hinckley, luckily, so we have a large choice.. Including of course the lovely (and lock-free!) Ashby Canal! But as long as I could be within 30 mins drive from there... It may well depend on what work we can get! ! Jane x
  5. Sold! Which bit of Oulton broad is best for mudweighting plz Mr O? X
  6. Me 2! Am very much looking forward to our handover from Andy in September! As one or two of you know, we are going to be liveaboards in the not too distant.. Anyone who's willing to give up any amount of their time to improve my boat handling skills - well bring it on i say - bet you get bored afore i do! Oh and BTW... "not too distant" just became "early next year" due to OH playing his cards just right at work..... But even when we're living aboard on the canals, we both agreed that we'd still come back to the Broads on our hols - sad or wot?!
  7. Yep - she's on the "would love to hire" list - along with C'est La Vie from City and most of the "Little Ships! *sigh*
  8. Alan! (I recon I'd still like a week aboard tho!) So (pardon another silly question!) is she guaranteed to go under PH bridge? And one would use the pilot still? I do think she's rather gorgeous! X Jane
  9. Hey, no stress dude - we can wait until you're landlocked again - wouldn't want to detract for a second from your fun! (Even tho I am green with jealousy that you have your OWN BOTE.. )
  10. Where can we see the entries? (Apologies - i seem to be having a day of being a bit t'ik!
  11. Having traveled past many a Hindu temple in West London, the only problems i could see are the "offerings" to the river.. i.e. saris getting wrapped around the prop! (Happens in Brum and Leicester too) Our confusion was hilarious the first time we passed through the floating coconut shells at Diwali... I do think the whole "sacred river" thing is pretty cool tho.. I used to do lighting for a living so i tend to think Diwali is awesome - a festival to celebrate light - coolio!! I totally fail to see the problem with barbies? A sighn on the road "SLOW - concealed entrance" or summat? As with all this cultural diversity stuff, the key seems to be COMMUNICATION. The more communication, the less issues.. imho...
  12. Studied those pics hard - i still cant make out if the only double is the dinette or if there's one cunningly stashed in the bow.. i'm prolly being thik!
  13. We were looking at this boat ourselves - it looks gorgeous! However, with the OH at 6'2" i can't see it working... Is the only double berth the dinette conversion? Do tell us how you got on! x Jane
  14. Very sad to report that the lady in question did not make it.... http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/grandmother_pulled_from_river_yare_has_died_1_4149455
  15. Think he sait he was born in the uk but lives mostly in Canada? These videos were (along with the London Rascal) partly responsible for me and the OH deciding to try the broads.. love them - and love his funny accent! x j
  16. Hi Andy and welcome too from a relative newbie. Tell you what, i ain't half jealous of you lot who's parents dragged you out on boating holidays (including the OH)! It must have been amazing as a kid.. (we just got years on end of Blakney Marshes and Wells-Next-the -Sea beaches.. (NOT knocking it though!) See Robin? I recon you must be responsible for at least some of the congestion oop north!
  17. Nobut..... Yerbut... I recon the fact that WE are coming down the first week of September means that the weather will be FANTASTIC!! (obvs Andy knows this ...)
  18. So happy for you Robin! Looking forward to many more blogs....
  19. Also we wanna pick up on time, so to late return fees!
  20. Hear Hear ! I belong to a canal forum which "looks" very very similar to this one - BUT - i seldom if ever post to it as the risk of getting a good savaging for daring to have a differing view is very high, and then you're embroiled in a (usually pretty personal) spat that you just haven't got the time for! Poor newbies regularly get torn asunder for daring to ask questions (mainly about C&RT's ever more complex continual cruising rules, about which EVERYONE is currently confused!).. (Altho i broke my own rule the other day and interjected on a post where some eejit stated that all women hated having a dedicated engine room on a narrowboat - wot bilge that was - Raaagh! ) From time to time folks will ask for heavier moderation on this canal forum, but the ones who love an argument and a good bullying session always moan that the site would become "bland" and "dumbed down". They always win! THIS site is neither bland nor dumbed down - posters merely seem to have much more respect for each other's point of view here. Which is why, even though i've been a member of the canal forum for over THREE TIMES as long as i've been a member of this one, my post count here is over double what it is there! IMHO this is down to the moderation here; so it's really a long-winded way of saying - WELL DONE MODS!!
