  1. MM Being a privateer, you can head out early on the 4th and grab all the good spots before the hirers have managed their extended handovers and got on the river.
  2. https://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/boating/navigating-the-broads/outdoor-swimming
  3. I think the broads authorities stance is still that swimming is not allowed, except for organised events where they have safety craft out.
  4. spoilsports, mind you Jayne probably has less draught than Janet did. most of them will sail on a wet field
  5. perhaps we could call it crement, then once its flushed it would be...
  6. it was? how novel, well theres a first time for everything.
  7. we could all agree on a single code word that sounds similar.
  8. I would be careful Poppy, I have the power to add an extra O to your user name
  9. its particularly noticeable when you are going along catfield dyke to Catfield common, (which is more than a bit shallow) and the prop bites into the mud of the bottom and the back of the boat walks sideways, once I got half way I spotted the depth gauge, less than 2 ft.
  10. you will find that reversing in from one side will be easier than the other, this is because of prop walk, one way the prop helps you turn the back end in, the other it hinders, so learn which side your boat prefers and approach your moorings so the boat helps you. practice the manouver in the middle of a broad, in various states of wind, until you are confident where it will go when you ask it.
  11. every year on the lads week we are supplied with a large section of square sausage for each boat (maybe a couple of kilos per boat) for breakfasts.
  12. well as soon as i heard the news, I extended my trip in july by 4 days as the boat I was on still had days available, so thats at least one extra booking, when I called up marthams they hadnt heard yet that could re-open, but that was only a few minutes after the announcement.
  13. thats for after the Banjo sandwich.
  14. Just dont take his advice on opening tins of hotdogs (also worth taking a decent tin opener).
  15. These are what I have, not sure which version of the panels you have currently, as I believe you went through 2 different ones, maybe all I will need to do is add a wider white line across the panel.
  16. Well, maybe for the 18 year old, but that probably wont be suitable for the younger lads. They sound good ages for the lads to appreciate the trip on the boat, and have a good time messing about in kayaks and dinghys, while you sit back and keep an eye on them from afar, while sipping a glass of wine (or gin), the eldest sounds old enough to take care of his younger siblings, just remind them if they drop their phone the chances of finding it in the mud are slim. Just ask London Rascal whose partner dropped her waterproof iphone off the boat, and it kept pinging her watch with messages for 3 days.
  17. just found a couple of photos you sent of the solar panels which gives me something to work with at the stern end roof, On the subject of solar panels i have had to go with a single panel the width of the pair as this is the only size that will fit, I cant get one the right size for them individually in a flexible panel that will curve to the roof. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PowerFilm-Flexible-Solar-Cells-4-8v-50ma-MPT4-8-75-Fast-Delivery/264312227861?hash=item3d8a3c8815:g:BAkAAOSw86JaZw6z to be fair getting panels this size in flexible brings the available suppliers down to just a small number, mostly in the USA.
  18. Well the 770mAH batteries run at about 20-30 minutes, you can get 1100mah batteries which last about an hour, this big beastie should run an action cam all day, add a 64Gb card and use a normal resolution (not 4k) and it should be able to record for a good long while, since thanks to lidls i own 4 of these plus the one i had before, i will have cameras to record my trips aboard. just got to check i have enough camera mounts now. i have i big clamp on ans at least 2 small ones, tripods a plenty,
  19. these are made at a higher voltage reduced down to 5v on the power output to usb so they are 9Ah at 8.4V, at 5V which equates to about 15Ah at 5V, so allowing for losses in the power conversion about 14Ah at the socket, i am aiming to use these to run Action Cams for longer than the 40 minutes or so the internal batteries run for.
  20. with the arrival of the last vital parts, i have now completed my first power bank, outputting 5v through a usb port with a capacity of 9000mAh
  21. dunno, but we just had an ice cream van round our road.
  22. i think there was one boat there, we helped the second squeeze in at the end, it was a tight squeeze as we were on jewel of lights
