    Keep Safe

the trouble is when Boris or his close company decide to flout all of the advice it sort of devalues the governments message, then all the idiots out there decide 'if they are allowed to do it then to can we'.
  2. so clean you cant really see the cabin sides they are that transparent
  3. which is probably another reason vagabond is still sitting at Cantley.
  4. do what i do, reassign pdf's to acrobat as well as all the other file types and then just ignore it, when i first tried it just about everything i viewed edge said it couldnt open..
  5. it seems my tv licence monthly direct debit fails to pay at least once a week, but i never click on the provided link to set up a new direct debit
  6. that really depends on how many of you there are and how often you use them, but we might have to do a pumpout on the lads week with 6 on board and 2 toilets, sometimes we can get away with it for a week, but, generally otherwise probably once midweek
  7. a dinghy is a good idea, usually towed as you would never get one on deck, most hire yards can provide them, if you get a sailing one make sure you dont tow it centrally as water can come up through the centre board and slowly fill the dinghy (only happens normally if in the direct wash of the propellor). we normally tow using a line to each stern cleat, but have one longer so it tows off centre, also designate one crew member to be responsible for the dinghy when mooring, as you will need to move it to the front of the boat when stern mooring, and to the outside cleat when side mooring
  8. not all single sex parties are as bad as that, you just have to look at our lads week for proof of that, 4 boats 24 lads, and the worst we got up to was 3 abreast up the river bure for a photo opportunity, and there was still room for the boats coming the other way.
  9. It is a possibility, but it will depend on what voltages i can use with various other components. if I drop to 11.1V then the top speed will drop, and the next option is 14.8V, so I will have to check the voltage rating of other components such as the speed controller and sound board.
  10. having said that I was helming a boat while a hole where a plank had sprung was being fixed and we had 5 bilge pumps pumping out at one point (the boat had just been put in the water and was still taking up, ditto a hire boat that pumped out every 10 minutes or so for 30 seconds (that too had just been relaunched) that had a fairly vigorous bilge pump if I recall.
  11. or get two, and set one higher so it comes on should the first be overwhelmed or fail.
  12. I am hoping to use these to get video as i travel on my holidays, recently there was a good deal on action cams at lidls, so i bought a couple, i got a couple more when i spotted they still had a few left, so i now have 4 4k capable cameras. now dont expect polished videos, about the best i can do is add music to videos, so all it will be is videos taken as i travel the broads.
  13. Well i have been working, the final bits needed arrived today, some additional parts were 3d printed, so i got on and assembled a further two battery units, the second of which has two usb outputs,
  14. if you read a few of the threads there are quite a few people asking similar questions, some pubs are doing takeaways, there are nice mooring that are quite remote, and others (oulton and beccles) that are close to town and shops, we would always recommend children wear their lifejackets when not in the cabin, and when getting on and off at moorings, just in case of a slip or trip, adults too if it comes to that, if someone falls in dont jump in after them, because then there are two needing rescue, a mooring rope looped in the water makes a helpful rung to get someone out, and the most important thing is not to reverse up to them and shut the prop down if they come back aboard by the stern. make sure everyone aboard knows what to do in such a situation, the person seeing them fall over should do nothing but keep them in sight and point to them. this is the drill that is given to us when we go on our lads week, though we have only ever had dogs take a swim or jump over the wrong side when we have moored somewhere different, the drill works.
  15. crossing breydon is just like any other bit of river, but wider, timing is the key, and your best bet is to phone the great yarmouth yacht station and they will let you know the best times for the easiest passage, just remember to stay between the red and green posts and go round the yellow one before turning,
  16. aside from that, it will depend a lot on when you are going and what pubs have managed to open and have social distancing measures in place, a lot of regulars are still trying to find whats going to be open from the 4th.
  17. our leicester office is just a few miles outside the boundary too but its in the middle of nowhere at potters marston. one of my colleagues was there yesterday, and due back again today, so unless whoever they are visiting has been locked in to leicester, i dont see a problem. ditto with our brentwood office, its set in the middle of nowhere amongst farm land.
  18. its also worth considering a length of chain between the mudweight and rope (if a private boat) as this will lay on the bottom and help the mudweight hold by not having all the pull near vertical
  19. Well at the moment its getting it ready for its appearance at the Beccles Wooden boat show, after that there are still a few things to be done, wiring up the interior lighting, doors, canopy, you know little bits that will take some time, maybe adding the red lining around the name, etc etc. After that, finish model #1 with all the little details, meanwhile, on my trips on water rail i will probably be taking measurements, if i want one too, i might end up making 3 of that one, after that, well ask me again in 6 years time maybe.
  20. especially when the source is the EDP
  21. I would imagine that they would always check and top up for the first hire of the season.
  22. I am sure once members get back on the water, business as usual will be resumed (not that reposting an EDP article isnt business as normal), but these type of reports are normally swamped by the volume of posts of people enjoying the broads and posting their tales, videos and pictures of peace and tranquility. Its just in these lean times for broads related posts that it brings these posts to the fore.
  23. okay, todays little task, apart from practicing the writing, i have added the name vinyls to the model, and then replaced all the roof fittings to get some pictures, also seen are the first attempts for the writing on the cockpit sides, i expect to practice more before i do the real ones on the model. also we now have the flexible solar panels, these will be fitted once i see the pictures of the current arrangement.
