  1. Went from Oulton Broad to Lowestoft last summer, sure it was the same train.
  2. Reading the details it is surprising to see that the original purchase was loan funded, and that the sale of sufficient shares is needed to maintain the project, otherwise the property will return to the open market by auction in March. It was my impression that the project had been secured by an under writer, this appears not to have been the case, or at least if it were, it was a very short term arrangement.
  3. That's the problem Nog, no it didn't. I'm informed it was closed because "it might have got political" when many other threads which "might have got political" still exist. What's more it carried information which might have been very relevant to people on this forum. It's the double standards that I can't accept. Sadly it seems some faces fit, others don't. Mine obviously no longer does, nor do the others who have pm'd me over the last few hours. C'est la vie.
  4. * I can't agree more floydraser,
  5. I can't agree more floydraser, which has been my point all along this is likely to be my dying breath here, so please stay safe, do the right thing, and let's all get through.
  6. I feel our moderators do a good job generally, and if that thread broke a TOS I'm happy to learn why, but as far as I can see it did not, and might offer useful advice for somebody thinking of visiting a nearby country park or similar to get their exercise this weekend, not to mention shopping.
  7. I use userbenchmark for checking processors, I find it very reliable in giving an accurate assessment of processors in real life applications. Otherwise working out what is what would be impossible. There are some very pedestrian early series i5 twin cores, easily out performed by later i3s. I thought about looking at Chromebooks as there seems to be a suggestion that they run faster than Win 10 based on similar equipment and is theoretically cheaper than Windows machines, but looking at the main retailers that doesn't seem to be the case. There is also a worry about the idea of storing everything in the cloud rather than on the machine, Elaine's not ready for that yet, she likes to have her photos and music on the physical machine, as well as on back ups of course. Swapping the current machine to a new OS is not an option, it's not particularly suffering too much performance wise it's just one break down after another. It no longer charges, the case is cracked, the hinges are not very good. It's very old, like me it's past it.
  8. Why has it been locked, which of the TOS did it break?
  9. The current Laday Boatboy needs a new laptop, or should I say laptop style device. Her old dell is reaching the end of it's life, it's had a new screen, mo-bo etc. To be honest I'm fed up of stripping it down, repairing it and rebuilding it (which anyone with a Dell laptop will know is not easy). So I look at suggestions for the best device on various comparison sites, should she have a windows laptop, or a chromebook? Is a laptop best or a hybrid style 2 in 1 device? It will not get a lot of heavy use, browsing, a few online apps, browser based games etc, messenger, face time and social media. We do want it to be reasonably quick though, no waiting ages for browsers to open Having looked as sties like which, what etc they all offer advice on the ideal machine, and they all cost in excess of £750, a cost I don't see as necessary given the limited duty list for her machine. Any suggestions or advice, especially on chromebooks which I know little about, benefits, limitations etc gratefully received. Apple machines of any kind will not be considered.
  10. I seem to be missing a thread, has it slipped down the back of the sofa?
  11. Mouldy hits the point on the head, something which has been my bugbear all along. We have police enforcing government advice, not UK Law, it's a very dangerous precedent.
  12. So that will now be the golfers after a rule change too
  13. not the case, angling is not a permitted exercise, the absence of water is irrelevant
  14. It's not just those two, the local press is reporting the number of tickets issued over several days of "active operations" runs into the hundreds
  15. South Derbyshire Police have been patrolling local beauty spots and issuing fines to people who have travelled there to "exercise". One such location is the National trust property of Calke Abbey where fines were issued to people who had driven less than five miles to visit. Having been reported in the local press this has gone viral on local facebook groups with others coming forward to say they have been fined by Leicestershire Police at the country park in the village here having travelled from neighbouring (and I mean directly adjacent) villages. Both forces have been heavily criticised already for their policing of COVID restrictions, I was wondering if anyone else has seen anything similar in their local area?
  16. I'm afraid i don't see it as "sneaking such extensions in quietly" but taking necessary and responsible steps to protect the nation in unparalleled times. The current lock down has a time scale of mid February, even the most gullible in society surely do not expect that to be an end to restrictions, and the Prime Minister has made no suggestion that it will be, quite the opposite in fact. It's all very well saying notify MPs of a recall, get them back to Westminster, debate new lock down restrictions, call the division and then watch every MP in the house file through the ayes door, as the house has already agreed to back government lock down proposals. Meanwhile rates continue to rise, more people die, the end of this gets ever further away and then people start to complain that the government has not taken decisive action. I think people need to pay more attention to the advice and instruction of Government so that as many as possible come through this pandemic as quickly as possible, not cloud the important issues with conspiracy theories and irrelevant debate.
  17. and thank heavens it has, allowing the restrictions to be released into the public domain and become effective instantly. The last thing we need is to watch infection rates soar and the death toll skyrocket whilst the wheels of government grind out the necessary actions. Personally I would be very surprised if any major relaxations of current restrictions are possible before Easter at the beginning of April. We have been warned that even if vaccination rates meet government targets it will take as long as sixteen weeks to see that impact the infection rates, that in itself is Easter and beyond, so of course government is extending the time scale of current restrictions. If I were you I would get ready for them to be extended further, then it might not come as a shock.
  18. beautiful, thanks for sharing that. I love watching these old films.
  19. I think that's excellent clarity, well done Angling Trust. Sadly not everyone will read government advice, there is a train of thought that I'll do what I want until somebody tells me I can't, and if I don't listen they'll never tell me.
  20. That was the original course of the River Ant, the section between the Bridge and River Bure is a "new cut", as is the section of the River Bure by the St Bennet's moorings which was cut to avoid a large southerly loop the eastern half of which is still used to access The Weirs and South Walsham Broad.
  21. Not sure about Acle but water level in the Yare immediately downstream of Reedham bridge, between the bridge and junction of the new cut is identical to that in the Bure at Stokesby apparently.
  22. Peter's quite correct. Whilst there never has been a navigable cut of any kind a connection between the Yare and the Bure has certainly been considered on a number of occasions, the last being during the 1970s. I understood the two immovable obstructions were the railway on the north bank of the Yare and the local landowners objections. The possibility of reopening navigation to Bungay was considered at the same time.
  23. There were issues with early models where the burner wasn't big enough but I believe that has all been sorted. Beware if buying second hand though. A lot of people on the caravan forum I belong to swear by them.
  24. I queried this and when operation stack is in place the M20 is not considered a road, but a holding park and the driver considered to be resting. They are not driving hours. The queue will not just start moving but drivers notified of a move forward time.
  25. I've had such luck you'd not believe Upon this latest Christmas Eve It all began whilst still in bed Pondering the day ahead Whilst working out the things that mattered The peace throughout our house was shattered I had forgotten to disarm My blessed mobile phone's alarm So now it sat upon the stand Blaring out like some brass band And like Wee Willy in his glamour I rushed downstairs to kill the clamour And put an end to all the noise Which woke my wife and both the boys With preparations still to make trifles to finish, cakes to bake Working out the best solutions My thoughts turned to my ablutions And heading into our ensuite I sat myself upon the seat But sitting on that throne of plastic I heard a crack, a sound most drastic No longer seated proud and high I uttered one impulsive cry As my behind began to slide Heading for that great divide The tiny space upon the floor Between the basin and the door So off I went to B&Q To get a new seat for our loo My wife laid down some stipulations And made clear her expectations First it must be made of wood For I believe that wood is good And it must have the softest close 'Cause her next door has one of those. I found the one that looked just right Wood, soft close and new "stay tight" It should not bang, it should not wiggle If on the seat I choose to wriggle The downside to our lavatory lid? Not much change from fifty quid.
