  1. Yet another yummy corned beef recipe, I will try that tomorrow at home. I will probably add a good shot of freshly ground black pepper too. Corned beef is a much maligned and under rated product. Personally I think it is a very versatile wholesome food. What is more, if it is tinned it keeps perfectly on a boat such as mine without a refrigerator. Dave, have you also thought of using good quality dried mash? This also keeps well without a 'frige and it saves the gas and steaming up inside the boat whilst cooking proper spuds?
  2. Spotted a police driver on the A12, Essex yesterday on a mobile phone.
  3. Welcome Geoff and Wendy. Happy cruising and posting. :wave
  4. Who's supplying the handcuffs?
  5. Correction: "From ghoulies and ghosties and long leggidy beasties heaven preserve us" I forgot the long leggidy beasties and there are lots of them on the Broads.
  6. By the way, on wet windy nights Bonzo is found in the nearest pub.
  7. In reply to the subject of the ghost at Acle Bridge: Legend has it that many years ago there was a rather nasty character who lived in Acle who bullied his neighbours. By all accounts, his neighbours ganged up on him, dragged him down to the old Acle Bridge, slit his throat and pulled his tongue through the slit giving him what is known as a Devil's Necktie. after that they hanged him over the bridge. His ghost is supposed to haunt the area around the date of his murder. Now, What about Black Shuck? Purportedly being a large evil ghostly dog (not Bonzo) that roams the banks of the Broads on wet windy nights. The locals would not go out on such nights for fear of meeting it. "From ghhoolies and ghosties and things that go bump in the night heaven preserve us" . Whoooooooooo.
  8. Being the cynical old goat that I am I perceive that any survey will always be loaded to eventually produce the results which are required. Should the results be opposite to what is required the survey will simply be swept under the carpet and the little gnomes of whatever quango is involved will get their way whatever. Personally the Broads is only a place to float my boat. If the shiny trousared gnomes in their quango make things not to my liking I will just take the boat elsware. Pick the bones out of that one Broads Authority.
  9. Broad Scott: Ahaah! success! I spotted a haggis lurking in my local Aldi. As soon as it saw me it took off around the store. I really must get more exercise as I was quite out of breath when I cornered it. A quick whack with a crusty French Loaf dispatched it. Guess what is on the menu for supper tonight?
  10. Broad Scott: Bad news. Went to Wetherspoons for haggis neeps and tatties tonight and guess what? No haggis. All the more reason for them to be bred down south.
  11. A very sad sight to see, commiserations to her owner.
  12. Aaawwww! I was just beginning to enjoy that thread.
  13. Baitrunner: I believe that somebody took a picture of our own resident monster a couple of years ago. She was christened Breydon Bess. It would be a bit naughty to lift the picture off another website but it is there if you look for it. Yes, The Broads National Park is really picking up. I visualise boats anchored all along Breydon Water full of monster spotters gorging themselves on locally caught haggis. Talk about subject drift. Where is this thread going?
  14. Well, every conversation regarding boats usually ends up discussing the bog and then eventually everything goes down the pan. It's enough to send one around the bend. (Well somebody had to say it),
  15. Iain: Should that not be RSPH? Happy Burns Night.
  16. Thanks for the information Broad Scott, I found it very interesting. However, I wonder if the haggis would take to the built up banks which now flank much of the Broads. Perhaps they might be kidded that they are hills. I have heard that the haggis is very short sighted so it could happen with some perseverance.
  17. Broad Scott: You say "freshly caught haggis" just how are they caught and is it done humanely? Also, do you think it would be worth introducing the species to the Broads and would the introduction have any impact on the endemic wildlife? I am having haggis tatties and neeps tomorrow in my local Wetherspoons pub. they have a Burns Week, not just a Burns night. Absolutely yummy!
  18. 650xs: Good man! They don't like it up 'em.
  19. Shame to hear the news. Jeff and his crew really tried hard to make the pub one of the best on the Broads. Best of luck Jeff in whatever venture you are going to pursue.
  20. JM: Even so, as the mooring appears to be somewhat long term I would expect for the price charged (which is never cheap) at least a polite challenge to anybody other than the owner who is around the boat or a telephone call to the owner to clarify the situation would be in order.
  21. If this is correct it shows that the boatyard is not maintaining the security to which the boat owner is entitled. After all these moorings are not cheap. Personally, I would be looking for a refund of fees if a boatyard allowed some scruff to doss on my boat.
  22. Quote "Will you other members pull yourselves together" unquote. I would love to pull myself together. The problem is that I cannot find the ends to pull together.
