Readers of this section of the website may have noticed that I am looking for some rubbing strake for my boat. After a quick look on the internet I noticed a company in Tollesbury, Essex. I went over there this afternoon and was very impressed. The service was very polite helpful and friendly. Many rubbing strake profiles are carried in stock and the range was quite impressive. Details: Wilks. Woodrolfe Road, Tollesbury, Essex. CM9 8RY. They do have a website so if you need something, have a look. There is plenty of parking in the area, also a chandlery nearby and..........after a long drive............... a public toilet nearby. Food and tea is available nearby too. Tollesbury is also a lovely little village anyway and well worth a visit.

Been messing about with my old tub on its trailer in the front garden. Its been great in the sunshine. Won't be long now until she is in the water, just a few little jobs to tidy up like the annual job of getting the hooter working and scrubbing out the cabin. Then................Out on the water. BLISS

Nice one MM! I never thought of it in that respect. I wonder if the retailers of Wroxham make any contribution to the upkeep of the staithe? Heaven knows they make enough trade from the boats that moor there.

Since my temporary licence fee for The Broads is somewhat twice what I pay elsware I am blowed if I am going to be fleeced again by putting money in those boxes. I suggest that if the Broads Authority needs more money it should tighten its belt, cut out all the jollys for the boys, cut wastage by more supervision on issue from the stores dept, cut unnecessary jobs etc. It happens in other industries so why not BA?

Why not just spray his legs a new colour each week? Halfords do quite a range of colours. B&Q also do some paint which has been opened and sold cheap. That would postpone the problem until next winter

I favour the green at Thorpe St Andrew. It is within easy reach of Norwich. There are two pubs there, or there was two years ago when I last visited. the Rushcutter pub does some really good food and beer and has moorings of its own. It can be busy at lunchtimes as many Norwich business people use it then. Please be aware that even if the boat will pass under the rail bridge at lower states of the tide it may not at high tide. there is a tidal range there of around a metre.

It makes a lovely brekkie whilst crossing Breydon in half a gale after a night on the beer.

Beer prices..............too dear. Beer quality.............often below standard. Potter Heigham fish and chips..............Yuck! Otherwise, The Broads ain't too bad.

Jaws Orca: Thanks for flagging up Bridge Rubber. I was going to look for a firm to supply me with some rubber rubbing strake to replace some damaged strake on my boat and you have saved me the bother.

Hi Gareth. If you are still here and not been frightened off by the previous posters, welcome to the website.

It would be rather nice of the Broads Authority to install a line of pontoons downstream of Breydon Bridge only to be used at low tide for boats awaiting the flood tide. I know there is a small pontoon there but that is only to be used by boats waiting for suitable air draft under those bridges. Just think of how much this could do for the environment in saving burning all that diesel punching the tide.

If you look carefully in the next few weeks you might spot a wild Bonzo. He can easily be identified wearing a floppy hat, a pint in one hand and a bacon sarnie in the other.

Well, this is the real beauty of our Norfolk Broads. There is so much wildlife to see if we just take some time to stop and observe it. I have yet to see a bittern but have heard them a number of times. I have spotted several otters, barn owls, marsh harriers, kingfishers, egrets, and all sorts of other birds. Also what is quite interesting is the snakes. I have seen many grass snakes swimming, they love water, my sister had one in her pond a couple of years ago and it also had some lovely little snakeys. I was moored at anchor about three years ago on Ranworth Broad and I spotted a snake swimming and heading straight for my boat. I suppose it thought the boat was dry land. There is a rather low transom on the boat and when the snake got closer I saw that it was an adder. Luckily it did not invite itself aboard and it swam over to the reeds.

No mistake mate. I like it, if you don't just leave it out.

A useful and easy breakfast is a Mc Muffin. When I am moored in Wroxham I usually shamble down to Mc Donalds for their Mc Muffin breakfast. The Mc Muffin Is so easy to make and I always keep a few English muffins in the freezer at home. Just slit a muffin in half and toast both sides. A slice or two of bacon is fried along with an egg which I fry in one of those silicone egg rings. I usually use a cheese spread instead if the sliced processed cheese the Mc Ds use which is put on the top half of the muffin. You can also use a flattened sausage or some of that bacon grill stuff sold in cans or fried tinned meat instead of bacon. I have even used some haggis which makes an interesting flavour with the egg. There you have it. A Mc Bonzo muffin. A couple of these for breakfast will set you up for the day. They are even better with some hash browns thrown in. Go on................say it somebody............Another dogs's breakfast!

I heard one booming when I moored up for the night at Heigham Sound a couple of years ago. The call appeared to be coming from the Horsey area. The sound is rather like the one you get when blowing over the top of an empty milk bottle. I really must make a point of getting to the Broads early this year to hear the calls.

Apparently, this route was considered but the demolishment of several historic bridges on the Thames to enable passage in an upright position was too big a loss to our heritage. However, attaching sails to the column was considered to save fuel if this route was used.

As the monument can only be transported in an upright position it will need a special trailer. I have heard that the load can only move at 1 mph and the M11 and A11 will be closed in sections for at least six weeks. A highways agency spokesman said that due to Government cutbacks they can only afford to demolish affected road bridges and some may never be rebuilt.
