  1. I think thats more than he got for the yard!
  2. With so many of the attendee's of the Beccles Wooden Boat Show being active NBN members I thought you might like to see what some of them got up to on our pre event cruise last year. These piccys have just been released by Richard Johnstone-Bryden who covered the event for the Jan 19 issue of Classic Boat Magazine. http://www.richardjohnstone-bryden.co.uk/beccles-wooden-broads-cruiser-show-p1/ http://www.richardjohnstone-bryden.co.uk/beccles-wooden-broads-cruiser-show-p2/ http://www.richardjohnstone-bryden.co.uk/beccles-wooden-broads-cruiser-show-p3/ http://www.richardjohnstone-bryden.co.uk/beccles-wooden-broads-cruiser-show-p4/ http://www.richardjohnstone-bryden.co.uk/beccles-wooden-broads-cruiser-show-p5/ http://www.richardjohnstone-bryden.co.uk/beccles-wooden-broads-cruiser-show-p6/ http://www.richardjohnstone-bryden.co.uk/beccles-wooden-broads-cruiser-show-p7/ In other news 'Countess of Light' – our 2018 show winner – has been nominated in Classic Boat Magazine's best restoration of the year award. I am sure you will all join me in wishing Paul every success as well as popping along to their website and voting at http://awards.classicboat.co.uk Enjoy...
  3. Oh really? Wait till I see him! It's bad enough he's using my forum name for idle chit chat all over the place without two timing me! Time for the boat to strike back methinks.
  4. Alan, would you believe they haven't touched me in over a year now If you have some spare time I would love to see you (bring tools)
  5. There are many wooden boat owners on here and an absolute wealth of experience in ownership and restoration. Just ask away, one of us will have the answer and if not we will collectively know someone who does!
  6. It was me. I won last night. I was deemed to have won by half a point that had been previously awarded for a wrong answer The delightful Lynsey will be running next week's quiz on my behalf so I will make sure she has some really dodgy questions to ask!
  7. If it looks right it is right. We all use epoxy based glues, modern paints, cozy central heating systems and gps Speedos on our wooden boats. There are Nanni diesels lurking under beautifully varnished floorboards and the modern bilge pump is a blessing none of us would dream of doing without. If someone can knock half the weight off a rigid canopy roof I would be very interested to know about it, especially when balancing on a slippery rain soaked deck lifting the original in place!
  8. I'm such a difficult, cantankerous, moody, pedantic old bugger the only person willing to employ me is myself and even that was close By the way, Royal Tartan is not mine. I have asked permission to talk about it on here but its owner, who kindly sent me the pictures, chooses to remain anonymous. I hope it may spur others on to look at restoring these old boats while there are still a few left desperate for rescue before the chainsaw rears its ugly head again.
  9. Can I throw this into the mix? Best performed on a cruiser roof top before daylight methinks
  10. Dont tempt her Peter, you know what she's like! When we put the new decks on Chloe Jane she announced we had used exactly eleven hundred and whatever screws. On Janet Anne, doing the same job, I kept sending her off to mix epoxy so she couldnt count them. However, "it is close to 800 because there are 4 boxes of screws missing from the shelf" she announces. Somehow I think she missed her calling in stock control somewhere....
  11. Same hull and Royall's generic design but done as a three berth Barry. Unusual build, everything was nailed to the chine and hog with steel nails which have rusted away meaning it is easier to take apart than usual
  12. I think this thread was for the 2017 calendars Mr Nog I can tell you that the paypal button thingy will expire once the stock is finished so at this point there is still (some very limited) stock available.
  13. Long distance restoration is hard, however, chucking the bloody thing on a lorry, taking it home (or local) and bringing it back done is a perfectly achievable and very cost effective option. Here's Janet Anne arriving in Hertfordshire. Broad Ambition went to Yorkshire and back...
  14. I reckon you have all walked by her over the time. She used to be laid derelict outside Princess Cruisers so you would have passed her alongside the footpath from Pyes Mill to Loddon. She had been there at least 10 years, maybe more. She was only moved to her current location in August 2017.
  15. A more up to date piccy taken at the 2018 Beccles Wooden Boat Show
  16. She is proving to be one of those more involved restorations...
  17. And "Electric Taps".... shocking! Thank you Vaughan.
  18. Help!! Being a forgetful old sod, I have just managed to arrive home without my old Blake's/Hoseasons catalogues for the third time What I needed them for was a plan of Royal Tartans interior. Knowing there are many of you with collections of such catalogues, can anyone scan in Tartans plan and get me out the preverbial? Tartan is currently under restoration hence the need. Thanks peeps
  19. I suspect, needing to be near Bury or Brandon, the Ouse would be the water of choice? Good luck with your search though
  20. I wasn't thinking of repair, more a collective helping to equip it's replacement. Like someone said, it's not just the boat it's the contents that are lost.
  21. I hope you are dressed appropriately for nautical air guitar?
  22. Perhaps annv (John is it?) Could keep the forum informed and we can maybe help collectively if needed? After all we did manage to get Timbo's old tub to float between us!
  23. I have liked your post and then thought I hope I havent liked the last few words! Lets hope he gets back afloat soon and can continue to be a genuine boater.
