  1. We all have a selection of unfinished projects... I've just come across this, Seraphina in Martham Boats shed! Unfortunately she had become known as Scrapafina - you can see why. Her restoration was started by a chap who we surprisingly discovered lived next door to my son down here in the Chilterns. Sadly a back injury bought his dreams to a very sudden halt and she was sold to a new owner (I think he was a judge or something similar). He finished the restoration a a project to sell on. That must have been six years ago ish.
  2. I'm sorry about this lot floydraser, their medication will kick in soon and we can get back to talking about Harvey Eastwoods finest.
  3. Aint you supposed to be planking somewhere?
  4. When this lot get going you may just be eating your words
  5. Janet Anne is 27ft of trouble! Dave is her current custodian
  6. Your jpegs will be perfectly acceptable. Those able to send in RAW or CYMK or whatever it was will also be most welcome. The calendar will be stunning and possibly one of our best yet - have you seen this years selection that we have to choose from? I had wondered about having a calendar for this year's wooden boat show but it seems 'Fabulous Woodies' was more likely to get me an appointment with the constabulary than the printers
  7. That makes sense. It was dark when we passed her but I said it didn't look right! Yes I knew Seraphina was rebuilt purely to sell on and was still out there somewhere. Will look forward to seeing floydraser out and about. Transportation by road can't have been cheap though. I know how much it costs to move one just 100 miles!
  8. Not sure if it's any help but Seraphina (ex Santa Margarita) is moored alongside one of the downstream bungalows at Potter. She still has her original canopy arrangement.
  9. You need to sleep longer!
  10. Ok, I'll say it then.... If you are short of mammoths there are plenty here, so much so there's a mammoth sale in the local store. Says so in the window.
  11. Last restoration parts? You'll be using words like 'finished' next
  12. I do hope that Beccles Town Council and whatever 'trust' has been deemed to be needed to run this little lot now actually put up and get on with it. If as much money had been spent on the asset in the last few years as has been used in meetings, site visits, plans, assessments, re assessments and in house politics between WDC, Sentinel and BTC they would have already had a facility to be proud of!
  13. For boat owners based in the marina who had use of the car park for free it is going to be a costly affair.
  14. My daughter spent her day meeting and learning about Billy the Tawny Owl. Billy, a fellow stroke survivor, is coming to stay while friends of ours are out the country for an extended period. Billy is the one on the left. ....
  15. Mahogany planking tends to go soft along the edges however a few years ago I acquired the side of a cruiser that had been broken up. We ended up with about 20 planks with the edges missing but once salvaged with the middle 3 inches or so cut and machined, 20 lengths of some of the best genuine mahogany I have ever used. It had the proper brown richness you'd expect rather than the pink look of todays offerings. That wood became door frames, trims, edgings etc.
  16. Hickling is now so shallow in some areas that, should the flow be reinstated properly in the lower bure, large areas of Hicking Broad could become land again! There has been no significant increase in yearly rainfall over the last 50 years for Broadland - google it... The only change is the way it rains with more extreme weather. The BA are required, by law, to maintain navigation. In Dr Packman's own words 'a depth of between 1.5 and 3.0 metres' is maintaining navigation.
  17. Having heard on this thread how the river cruiser class is thriving etc it was with some surprise that this is destined to meet the chainsaw in the next few days. 'Shruff' was built in 1936 by Earnest Collins as one of his Mayfly class but is now unloved unwanted and unlikely to be here this time next week. A sad day for such a thriving fleet?
  18. Makes those weekends on Royal Tudor look easy....
  19. Slightly sticking or maybe wear in the pivot. Another possibility is something catching the float as it returns or maybe debris in the way. If its one of those awful built in automatic items then you may not be able to get to the float to clean / service it.
  20. Still using that steam powered microwave eh?
