  1. Hope he's got a spare Beagle...
  2. And you will find no finer example of dedication to a cause
  3. It doesnt leak, its deliberately filtering the Ant in a quest to help alleviate the blue green algae problem and soon it will filter the Yare and then the Waveney...
  4. The power of the internet... have just spoken to the people who found Dylan! Seems his medical abilities far outweigh his sense of direction!
  5. I will let Timbo elaborate when he has got his breath back but Dylan is home safe
  6. We have been told to register on www.doglost.co.uk
  7. Have posted on Stalham local news forum etc
  8. Please be advised that our illustrious Chairman, Timbo, is currently carrying out 'sea' trials aboard Royal Tudor on the Ant. Those in the know will realise that today is not a good day to venture out anywhere from St Benet's to Stalham. When he rang me last night to ask how to start the engine the alarm bells started You have been warned!
  9. I was told that it's my turn to look after a wooden boat ready for its continued life with its next carer.
  10. I know of an up and coming event that would provide the perfect backdrop
  11. You leave THAT bridge alone young man! It keeps the rifraf out. We can't have florescent mankini's up there you know, the waters just not deep enough and you'll frighten the ecosystem
  12. Tis far safer to educate them by letting them look at something from a safe space rather than letting them actually learn from experiencing something real like a wherry. But the 'Authority' don't own the wherry. Maybe it's about control? If you control the space you can control what is being taught within.
  13. Erm..... meanwhile back at the office....
  14. I am pretty it's the boat to the right is one of Little Ships 'Gay Venture' class
  15. I was told that any interference to boats on Coleman's, in the dinghy park, the yacht club, out on the swinging moorings and anywhere else was to be immediately reported to the police. That's the only way extra vigilance will be obtained and a need for an area to be policed identified. I am sure Wildfuzz will advise properly when he sees the OP's original message
  16. I once had a car cloned. It was the early 80's and I lived in Lowestoft whereas the duplicate car was somewhere around Southampton. I had probably 20 speeding tickets, enough parking tickets to wallpaper the loo and a failure to display a valid tax disc summons over the time. Anyway, the police had been and examined my car at my request to satisfy themselves it was the right one etc and to compare the gatso images which showed (luckily) enough differences to prove it was not my car involved. It got so bad that Southampton local council used to issue the ticket and the apology letter in the same envelope! I was advised to not use my car in the Southampton area though as they were on the look out for the clone and I would just muddy the waters Then it suddenly stopped. No idea whether they were caught, swapped the car for something else or whatever, was never told.
  17. Catalyst hardener should be added at between 1 and 2% according to air temperature. This is best done by weight as it's more accurate. Too little hardener will result in the resin not curing to its maximum strength whereas too much will mean the final result is more brittle and potentially likely to fracture. After coating on your gel coat it would be normal to apply a single layer 300g matt/resin as soon as the gelcoat is cured. After that you can apply up to 3x 600g layers in one go being aware of too much build up in corners etc. Like Vaughan said, in theory you can wait years to apply more layers, the only issue being cleanliness of the job preventing proper adhesion after a period in storage. If a job has become dirty or dusty a good sand down will get you back to something worth laminating to!
  18. I keep trying to entice Vaughan to Beccles. I reckon he would know half the boats personally so just imagine the memories the rest would trigger.
  19. In light of recent events and to clarify the situation for those asking, the Beccles Wooden Boat Show is an independant event that takes place over Beccles Carnival Weekend, normally the third weekend in August. The event is a private gathering of a group of like minded individuals. There is no intended connection with any organisation, forum or company. There is no entry fee, no club to join, no membership fees to pay, no hidden agenda, no commercial sponsorship and we have nothing to sell. The only thing attendees pay is their mooring fees. On years when a mooring discount able to be offered that is passed directly onto the attendees and when a discount cant be secured the normal mooring fees are paid. The event is financed by me and me alone. That is my choice. It costs me roughly the price of a good meal out for four and lasts two days!!! Why? Well I dont drink, smoke or keep maggots in the fridge. I do, however, have a passion for these old woodies and this is me indulging my passion and, in the process, recreating what Beccles yacht station once looked like the way I remember it back in my youth. A line of glorious boats covered in varnish. I call it a boat show because we encourage those attending to open their boats up for each other to have a look round, to 'show' them. There is also a fun quiz that has a question on each boat attending which again encourages people to visit each other and talk. That way everyone feels involved, part of the show. We attract a range of boats spanning back close to 100 years with most of the major manufacturers of the time represented. And thats about it, so now you know.
  20. Well there will be plenty of space next year. I'm done with it . Just don't need all the talking in riddles and bloody politics. Life is too short. Bollix to it. I'm done.
  21. Well that's a shame. For the last hour I have been speaking to and emailing people checking whether they are confirmed etc trying to free up a space on the quayhead for you and I return here to another salvo. I'll tell you two things though. Firstly I would have loved a Ripplecraft on the quay but for me it's always been about the boats and secondly you were instrumental in the event ever happening in the first place if you remember back a few years. You have my number
  22. I never said the yacht station to be fully booked just that the spaces I have booked for the event are fully booked. I had to let the harbour master have a full list of attendees probably a month ago now. Only he will know what space he has on adjacent quayhead etc. To be fair here you did tell me back in May that you were going to moor on the other side anyway.
  23. Sadly there are no spare moorings at Beccles, the event has been fully booked for some while now. The best I can offer is a place on the reserve list and wait for someone to drop out. If it helps we do tend to have one or two drop out at the last minute.
  24. If it helps the 105E came in 997cc and 1200cc. The Cortina used the 1200 and a 1500cc version. I think it was the larger capacity block that was preferred for marinisation. So it would have been a Cortina engine based on the 105E.
