  1. Rascal: I totally agree with you. I have been on a number of other boating forums in the past and been belittled by some of the people on there. Needless to say, I do not use those forums any more. I really appreciate any advice from people who know more than me on this forum but have never felt that I have been treated like an idiot by not knowing the information. By the same token I get a lot of satisfaction in passing on any knowledge that I may have on various subjects. Thingy.
  2. Tea bags soaked in neat Jeys Fluid can help, just make sure that the rain cannot wash it onto your plants. You could also try small sticks pushed in the rockery about a foot apart deters cats as they like to circle the area before depositing their filthy mess. There are also some cunning gismos that you connect to the mains water supply. When the motion sensor detects something it soaks the offending animal. It is totally legal and harmless to the animal and they soon get the message and mess somewhere else, hopefully in their owner's garden. Some strong Jeys Fluid from a watering can over the bollards and surrounding area may deter dogs.
  3. Thanks for that Malanka. I wish my nutty neighbours would get those facts into their thick heads. They have complained to the police about me giving cats a squirt of water to deter them from burying their filthy mess in my vegetable patch. I have had to give up growing veg in my garden in case of infection, the parasite can exist dormant in the soil for years. The police agreed with me that my neighbours were nuts and just made a note for their files.
  4. Just evict them but don't kill the sweet little creatures. If you are worried about them finding their way back just take them down the road a bit before releasing them.
  5. Yes, and thank heavens for that! How dare they call what they brewed............... beer! The chimney still remains though
  6. There is no need for that. Just get a glass and a piece of paper, catch the spider and evict it. Sorry but I think spiders do a good job along with wasps (I have been stung by wasps) which eat a lot of garden insect pests, ladybirds that do the same and the list goes on. Just because you do not like the look of a creature it does not mean you should kill it. Incidentally, I have not seen my resident spider in my house for a couple of days, I hope he or she is ok. When I first moved into my house there were silverfish everywhere. It was the first time that I saw silverfish as when I lived with my parents we never killed spiders, there were some enormous spiders running around but we never saw silverfish, they were probably on the spiders' menu. I carried on the family tradition of not killing spiders and guess what? I have never seen a silverfish in my house for over thirty five years, give me a spider any day. Funnily enough, my sister is the same as me with spiders, she is not frightened at all. It probably comes down to upbringing as my parents were not phased by spiders, mice etc. either.
  7. Oh come on now Carole, the worst it can do is crawl over your face as you are sleeping.
  8. Wear the Red Ensign with pride Jocave. I personally do not do flags but it is your right to wear the flag so do it if you want to.
  9. Personally I would not want to moor there anyway whether it is free, charged for or NBN members only. Its just like a seaside caravan site, loud, uncaring for the neighbours and I really do not like mooring outside pubs. That's why I go on my boat, just to get away from all that. I am not over enamoured with the pub either.
  10. Yep he did, something in the song about mice. Do you know, I havn't a clue what that song is all about or in what context that bit applies to anything. Sorry Bowie fans, many other songs are the same too, I sit here very confused sometimes when listening to my radio.
  11. Oh, there just had to be one of them on this forum didn't there?
  12. Don't stand for that!.................................Hit it back.
  13. Sorry but I just cannot understand why people are terrified of spiders and mice. IMHO spiders do a great job for me as I hate flies. They are very welcome in my greenhouse as they deal with any whitefly without the use of pesticides. Mice are not nice in the house obviously but when I see one outdoors so what, it is just another of nature's creatures and about the same size as a sparrow. now who is afraid of sparrows?
  14. Surely that does not apply to water colours.
  15. I found his little brother behind my television the other day. Its nice to have a bit of company in the house. He is nice and quiet, does not snore and never gets legless.
  16. The answer is, just don't moor there. Personally I never pay mooring charges or indeed, parking charges for my car. If a business or a town wants my valuable custom then I moor or park for free. If they want to charge I simply go elsware where my custom is appreciated.
  17. If there was a television on my boat there would not be enough room for me and my fishing gear! However, when I have hired a boat with my family we have put the ariel up on the boathook pole and tied it down somewhere. It works a treat. That is not to say that I am remotely interested in what is on the television as my family watch all the crap!
  18. I have tied mine to an overhanging tree in the past.
  19. I remember a few years ago in a local butchers. He had a system for reserving fresh Christmas turkeys. The customer pays for the turkey in advance, the butcher dutifully makes an entry in a notebook of the customers name and address and a ticket number and he gives the ticket to the customer. Just before Christmas customers call to pick up their turkeys which had been kept nice and fresh in the butcher's 'fridge. There was a lady at the counter swearing that she had paid for a turkey but she did not have a ticket and there was no entry in the book. The butcher was having none of it as he was very careful to make the notes and issue the ticket. The queue stretched outside the shop and down the road as this woman was adamant that she had ordered a turkey and she was blackening the poor butcher's name by the minute. Some people will try just about anything to get a freebee. No doubt she boycotted the shop afterwards but you don't need those sort of customers anyway.
  20. Thanks Alan. I do have my eye on one in that area, I am just waiting to see what offers there are on it before making a bid.
  21. Thanks JamesLV. That is a really nice piece of kit, thanks for replying. However, it is somewhat outside my budget and incidentally worth more than my boat, trailer and engine.
  22. There are many boats that are moored and used away from rivers and canals that do not have a BSS certificate and they are still insured. My insurance policy (Navigators and General) does not state anywhere that the boat should have a BSS certificate. The only problem you may have is with BA if you are stopped when using the boat.
  23. That could be fun! Wait until somebody is comfortably seated then hook it up to a car and run it a few miles down a bumpy road.
