  1. Like the idea of a cooking hob that doesn't normaly get hot with no pan present but what if you get over familier and put your finger with a ring on too close. silly I know but!
  2. Yes, thanks I thought it strange can't imagine it with no boats. My daughter and I moored overnight a number of years back and my daughter woke me in the early hours "There's a gang of Girls on the boat Dad " so there was on the roof! by the time I got outside they'd gone (Thank goodness what could I have done?)They'd thrown the lifebelt into the water and pinched the mop which was kindly replaced with a spare from the attendant the next morning. thankfully the belt was still attached! No, I'll stick to the day in future. sure we'll make the best of it next March whatever.
  3. I'm having a week on the southern Rivers in March next year and had thought of stopping off at Norwich Yacht Station but I now understand your not allowed to moor during the winter months. I wasn't expecting it to be manned or anything but it seems odd that you can't just moor for an hour or so. I know we could moor outside the city but it would be a bit difficult getting in as we have a dog.travelling with us. my fault for being a cheapskate and going out of season I suppose.
  4. That's inforced PC getting a bit OTT now.
  5. As regards bridge heights Potter, Wroxham and Beecles etc may be iffy in the future if levels continue to rise What about fitting ballast tanks to future cruisers like a submarine (Not so drastic of course) but enough to lower the craft just enough to get under the bridge then a rapid pump out and back on your way, no idea how practical this would be but unless something is found the Broads range could shrink to most boats eventually.
  6. The 2018 edition is the best General Broads guide I have excellent!
  7. Chrome suddenly won't play some videos properly ( Really Zoomed In) . I haven't been able to find the problem so I've downloaded FireFox just to get around this this.
  8. Now if that had happened on my car with an otherwise excellent Volvo D5 engine the loose belt would have taken out the Cambelt and wrecked the engine completely a few years back that is, in fact, what happened only the bit that started it all was the clutch/pulley on the A/C compressor. thank heaven for small mercies
  9. I hope Richardsons keep theirs I found the 2018 edition a great read with bags of broads information.
  10. If I've got this right this particular ship had further adventurers off Colchester it caught fire and the crew abandoned ship! she had her name change to "Carme"l after she was refitted I'd have called her lucky
  11. What a wealth of infomation ! big thanks to all who replied I bet the people at the time could not imagine what would change in the future. I wonder what we have instore? Best not to think aye,
  12. That takes me back to my first ever hiring in the early 70 ties "Angelina Bee" from Brundall first time out heading for Norwich coming past the old Power Station I looked behind and what seemed like a massive coaster was barring down on me I had no experience at all but knew I couldn't outrun him so I pulled over to the right didn't seem like a lot of room against the Power station mooring and prayed ! he went passed I went up and down again all ok what a welcome to boating . It obviously didn't, put me off though.
  13. Either my old memory is playing tricks or an identical occurrence took place at Reedham some twenty years apart. One time in the early Nineties I remember mooring for the evening outside the Pub (Red House?) alongside the Sugar factory at Cantley it must have been around October as the factory was belching out stuff from the chimney. I noticed a Coaster tied up at the plant, in the morning the Coaster had gone and as we watched breakfast tv there was a report that a Coaster had damaged a hire craft at Reedham from the report I could see it was an Aston Boat and the family sleeping on board had had a lucky escape. Ah,I thought it must have been the very same vessel that was moored in front of us. Today I found an old report of the incident but it said it happened in the Seventies and the damaged boat was the Aston Penguin could two Aston boats be that unlucky at the same mooring spot. Tell me I'm not going mad
  14. I'm glad you posted thought it was something wrong my end.
  15. That's not one of those Norfolk jokes, is it? nothing to do with me
  16. Thanks, I'll take a look at the fleet nice and nostalgic if I remember right :)
  17. Sorry, what a can of worms I've opened on this my first post, perhaps I should have just asked what could be done about getting through the Potter Heigham bridge. Oh no, I think I,'ve done it again! sabbatical for me I think
  18. Vaughan- What you say seems logical I appreciate your views.
  19. have regularly hired on the broads since the early seventies but haven't been much lately just booked for next year the lure is too strong.
  20. I was thinking if any thought has been given to having some sort of control lock/barrier at Great Yarmouth to limit excessive tides as it seems that craft that could normally get under Potter Heigham and some other bridges can no longer do so and I believe some people are also experiencing more flooding than ever before. It would have to allow vessels to pass in and out to the sea of course. How such a scheme would be funded I have no idea ;) I suspect this subject has been broached before but I haven't been able to find any details.
