I hate these threads, it's playing with fire on so many levels.

Please seek professional advice from espar/webasto agents. Tom @ JPC for example who is a wealth of knowledge and will give you all need to self install. Please ask them why the chinese heaters are not to be installed on a boat.

Do you or anybody else have proof that they shouldn`t be used on a boat.

I know of five people with these chinese heaters installed in the last year or so including me. As Robin said other than the burner, controller, fuel pump and wiring throw the rest away whether a new install or replacing as they are not fit to be inside a boat. The supplied exhausts leak!

If the advert say`s 4kw expect nearer 3kw and the noise level does vary from one to another, must say I haven`t seen the controller in the link above before and there are good videos on youtube re testing & explaining the in`s & out`s.

Opps, thought I had editted that last night. Throw the exhaust away and keep the rest.

    Actually, I'll add to that.

Who is going to buy a boat they find "unattractive"? so who is going to try to sell a boat thought of as unattractive.

It is all in the eye of the beholder as too what is which. Same with anything ie boats, cars, motorcycles, houses, pets even partners.

All I can add is that it is noticeable that when we go past the quays on the way to the wet shed we very rarely see any of the Richardson r45’s in the basins nor the larger gems but many of the smaller 2 and 4 berth offerings .

I would offer the opinion that Richardson’s larger craft actually rent more than the smaller

Could that be a question of numbers available though?

What I mean is how many 45`s do they have compared to the smaller crafts.

For the record there is a tiny charity shop in Brundall but I'm not sure if they're open in the present circumstances.

It is open 3 days a week, not sure if it takes electrical items though, seems to be books, small amount of clothing and what I would call odds n sods, parking is a nightmare though.

There is a popular local website where people can buy, sell or offer items for free and recommend local trades if somebody puts a "help" call out and It seems to well suported by the village.

Soon to be a small town with all the new houses being built.

Introducing the MK1 Purdey stair stopper (Patent pending)

Its a left over bit of gloss white UPVC ceiling board (I fit loads of this gear to bathroom ceilings) with some pipe insulation on the ends.  It can be raised / lowered, easily removed / inserted and will not damage the decor

This will stay in place whenever she is up and about until she gets the idea that the upstairs is out of bounds

I can't for the life of me understand why Rangers should encounter more confrontational issues than they used to. No, just can't fathom that one out. Surely the trust and mutual respect that was there in Aitken Clark's day is still alive and well?

Perhaps I only encounter the more than decent Rangers but I suspect that most, if not all, could deal with any confrontational issues more than adequately.

Sorry to tell you old chap that people and their expectations coupled with a changing of attitudes towards others if things don`t suit them has lead to a far more aggressive world since Aitken Clarks time.

Chasing unpaid tolls was not mentioned & these would not go to the Crown Prosecution Service as they would be civil not criminal prosecutions

Can you remember what the back log of cases were? I don`t recall if the details were mentioned but it might of been during my snooze time out.

  10. PS.

The matter of stuck boats under bridges and dredging was briefly mentioned, there is a party looking into this and at present the view is that the model shows that going deeper alone would make little difference.

  11. Regarding the ranger preparing paperwork for outstanding cases, this wasn`t his only job and the 35 cases is the current back log. At other times he would be out of the office on the waters and if we want people caught and taken to court for offences then the paperwork has to be correct to the last dot or cases fall apart in courts. As said the impact of the other new rangers would be reviewed after two years and allow the waters to be covered for longer hours which I thought was what people wanted.

Looking in, the 7.4% increase proposed would cover what was claimed to be the shortfall and knowing that this would not be well received BA then looked at other ways of funding. If these other ways are accepted then the shortfall figure comes in at around 4%.

The "Less than a tenner" marketing ploy was only a light hearted comment thrown in by somebody and wasn`t disussed or voted on to be followed up.

Next time I will pay more attention - Sorry.

  12. Missed the first 30 minutes or so and listening in took me back to council meetings of old and ashamed to say I dozed off for a short while.

Mentioned increasing seasonable ranger numbers by 3 @ £19k each and increasing hours as reports of speeding happening early evenings. Fourth ranger @£35k to be office based preparing paperwork on around 35 untolled boats etc where it takes around 35hrs per case to dot i`s and cross t`s.

No reduction on tolls for hire boats this year as bookings made strong recoveries, same on private boats.

Computer system for online tolls etc was started in 2006 and now needs replacing, estimate to do this around £120k and urgent.

As said above something about dipping into defra fund this year @£130k and next year @£120k and something about the broads being the only waterway not to receive funding from some source or the other. This source has been approached and the reply being not saying No and maybe you try again next year.

Average increase on private boats being 4% and how to market this (lets call it less than a tenner, what can you get for a tenner nowadays sort of marketing).

Upkeep of moorings and stuff mentioned in general costs for this year.

That`s about all I can recall.

If I remember correctly WRC also have planning for a limited number of official residential berths!

Perhaps MM can moor alongside that long canal boat (if it`s still there that is).
