  1. hi jill Argos have a Cannon mp220 on offer all in one for £39.99
  2. heres a cheat for you remove the injector pipes from the injectors pull them back to acess the injectors remove them from the cyl head taking care not to lose the copper washers that go on the ends now reconnect them back onto the injector pipes now taking care not to have anyones hands near the buisness end of the injectors as they can inject diesel through the skin if in close contact and crank the engine over as normal watching how they inject a fine mist is what you are looking for any poor ammounts or single jets are bad and meaning they need attention if they seem ok the problem is elsewhere could be contaminated diesel disconnect the rubber fuel pipe wherever you can closest to the lift pump use a 5 litre fuel can and run a rubber fuel hose to the lift pump from the fuel can that you know has good clean fuel in it prime it through and try starting again see if theres any difference im also guessing the fuel filter has been changed
  3. hi flanaguff, apparently there was a starter motor fault on the boat befor the non start situation arose as to where boulter marine was involved fitting a starter motor and new glow plugs eeeek wired through a starter solenoid which i guess is no fault the plan being that a low tension current operates the solenoid allowing the high current to go to the glow plugs to asssist starting, only on testing i found that with the key in preheat position no current reaching the glow plugs so i thought ok ill try a short across the solenoid thus bypassing it to alow the plugs to work the scarey moment being when i did this the engine turned over so im hoping jonny will get boulters back to sort this wiring out the ign switch is a lucas plant type with on, preheat and start positions. also to bypass the electric solenoid on the fuel system jonny is going to fit a stop cable to the injection pump with a strong spring i hope to return it so the engine will run
  4. Hi folkes heres the news jonny diddnt want to hear WOOD AUTOS of HUDDERSFIELD starter and alternator specialists cash sale £156 for the same starter motor thats with no trade discount sale to anyone off the street and plenty in stock so if anyone needs one for a BMC 1500 diesel give them a ring they will despatch by courrier
  5. hiyas everyone well after arriving at jonnys boat and a quick test of the electric stop solenoid it was obvious that it was not working and not allowing fuel through to the injection pump and injectors properly so lettting it fire up. so a quick test was to remove the solenoid remobe the plunger and spring then replace the solenoid to stop fuel leaking and turn the engine over, if you try this anyone make sure you know where the manual stop lever is so you can stop the engine if it fires up. well the engine burst into life after about 10 seconds of cranking thus proving the fault. The annoying part of this was a local broads boatyard (with a so called good reputation) charging £500 for 3 hours labour and a new starter motor.....daylight robbery more to come....
  6. great news got jonny online now so all arrangement fine will post when we get back
  7. now this could get interesting, we will be on our way in the morning to Loddon to see Jonny and see if we can get his boat running ok for him . 8. hi Jonny yes clean all connections on the wiring first but if i remember you were looking at altering the dash on the boat the ign switch can go faulty too try a good squirt of WD40 directly into the ign sw check connections onto the switch itself some are screw fitting others are lucar if no luck try a dead short with a piece of wire from the main battery feed to the switch to the start circuit if the starter turns ok change the switch about £12 plus vat at any lucas outlet , ask for a plant switch or use your voltmeter to check the switch out but you might get a voltage reading but if the internals on the switch are corroded the switch may not be able to carry the ampage needed
  9. if its a hydraulic system hydraulic32 should be ok for it about £1 a litre from most places
  10. On contacting Martham for a weeks hire for 21-6-08 to 28-6-08 for a 2 berth boat we were told that their 2 berth boats were not in the water but we were offered a judith (6) berth for the weekend early start sat 9am to 9am Mon and was swapped over onto a silver jubilee (9) berth till sat morning at 9am with another full tank of fuel all for the price of a 2 berth hire tolal cost £486 now thats what i call good service with an excellent boatyard nothing is to much trouble for this team and they would rather their boats be out than moored earning nothing. We enquired with the new boatyard at womack online and was quoted £1,299 for the same week as they only had a 6 berth available now thats over the top so no need to guess what we went for and yet another faultless week with Martham was had we would highly recomend them to any prospective hirer as the boats always get lots of head turners and are always reliable even for their age well done again Martham
  11. looking great Jill i bet you will be glad when its done

  15. link for tinned cable jonny http://www.jgtech.com/Cable.htm
  16. this is a good one lol reading the threads the only thing i can come up with is the ammount of drag the boat is producing if you can achieve 31knots at 4300rpm then the same speed at 4750rpm then it can be a drag factor or thinking about it what sort of transmission has the boat is it direct or through hydraulic transmission i would check oil levels and grease bearings etc maybe even filter condition
  17. hi Barry just read this thread for the first time very impressive great to see you hard at it after your personal setback i bet shes going to look a treat when shes done keep the great work going and us drooling with the pics as she comes along
  18. well not haggle our last 2 hires from martham boats we have asked to book a jayne and been told they wernt available and got a 6 berth judith for the same price as a jayne which works out at about a £200 saving oh and i did bid them on an easter hire in 2006 and got what i wanted so i guess it can work if you try. Richardsons once told us we couldent have used as much diesel as they said we had so we got most of the fuel deposit back off them too we diddnt tell them we had covered most of the broads that week so well done them
  19. hi Jill i would think an inverter would be ok we have found if you keep the battery in the laptop while connected to the mains the battery can get cooked and reduce its capacity/life

  22. makes a nice change from hearing about someone getting ripped off
  23. well no i was more considdering making a seat out of the genny and sitting it in the main cabin common sense does come into this but obviously some people are that thick i guess as i thought jonny said on top of the engine cover at the rear of the boat not in the well and an extension to the exhast would be easy with some flexable stainless pipe but who am i to argue as theres plenty of boats with them already installed
  24. there you go http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg286.htm
  25. ahh jonny you diddnt say if it was petrol or diesel petrol on the banking when you are alone lol diesel will be ok anytime on the back of the boat ( no Co ) ooops sorry very little Co
