  3. Hi folkes just got back from a brilliant weekend on the water so here goes with a tale , We booked with Martham 25th July for this weeekend just gone 31st to 3rd with a bit of swopping and shifting from Diane otherwise we wouldent have made it and we got Judith 3 for the 2 of us so better still. So early up at 4am friday, load the car and set off arround 4.30 just breaking light A57 through to the A1 then the A1 to the A17 (worst bit of road in England im sure) no problems tho at this early hour got to Kings Lynn and the A47 no probs carry on to Norwich saw Sainsburys thought ooooo breakfast but no still closed branch off on to the Wroxham road and ended up at Tesco 24 hour store for a very good breaky and nice break had 3/4 hour stop. Carry on to Martham and arrive at 9.15 to be greeted by Terry oh no not you again with a big grin on his face great bloke cant do enough for you what boat you on he askes Judith 3 i said oh she needs cleaning and topping up yet so we go into the office and are greeted by Diane who immediately offers tea or coffee which we decline as we are still full from the breakfast she sorts the paperwork and gets us a life jacket each so we can get off as soon as the boat is ready . The cleaners are on Terry is doing the pump out and filling with fuel Batterys are checked and the engine geta a once over as the cleaners leve the boat we start loading all the stuff we have brought . Then we notice a House Martin has nested in the shelter cover of the fuel pump and has 2 hatchlings which they are busy feeding and this is the first time they have done it. Gets to 10.30 everything ready done and dusted so we set off down the Thurn towards potters where Tim takes us under the bridge and sees us off We intand to get to Coltishall for the night so we keep going and see lots of Herbert Woods boats heading for home for the saturday swop overs to be continued
  4. whos been messing with the site set up what a mess can it go back to how it was plz!!!
  5. Steve i would be tempted to try another ammeter if you use a multimeter and test the voltage charge rate it should be arround 14.6 volts max if its over this then yes suspect the alternator regulator the 14.6 volts should be checked accross one of the batterys also check from the alternator out put terminal they should be the same give or take a volt
  6. a few adaptors and fittings http://www.aquaflowuk.com/Flexible_Hose/26
  7. Roy could it be a hardy spicer coupling if so they are easy to replace just a good vice needed http://www.hardyspicer.com.au/whats_new_driveline.asp
  8. another option would be to use an electric motor and use a battery tank for balast lol
  9. i would sell the batterys for scrap and buy something less (probable to leak cause problems etc)
  10. http://www.wisegeek.com/how-do-i-remove ... m-wood.htm this one seems ok
  11. hi andy funny you should post this as i was thinking the other day with these new led lights they should be quite easy to fit plus very visable the only thing then are white lights for seeing foreward not forgetting the reflection off the water http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/caravanmotor ... 60698fa403 the white light strips may even give enough light for use on the broads http://www.lighting-direct.co.uk/led-li ... tAodEHm11A also good low power consumption
  12. you can buy piano hinges in about 1m lengths made out of brass from good hardware shops so you can cut it to whatever length you need should be ok for what you want http://www.cglass.co.uk/piano-hinge-pr-17203.html
  13. or you could hire from a yard that includes fuel like Martham Boats you get a full tank of fuel inclusive thats 114 litres
  14. omg Barry when are you fitting the wings lol lol lol nice busbars David oh and JIMBO if soldering is good enough for NASA I guess it would be over the top for a boat lol http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shutt ... gteam.html
  15. hi Barry a couple of links for you on cable http://stores.ebay.com/Genuinedealz_Mar ... idZ2QQtZkm http://www.evelcables.co.uk/epages/Store2_Shop1476.sf if i was doing a rewire i think i would run a ring round the boat for eath return to the batterys as the builder you know where you want power roughly so then you solder the cable to a copper plate with tapped holes in it screw it to the wood work and then solder on another length of cable to the next plate etc so then you have a fixed earth system to wire to and then you can run your positive leads as required preferably wrapped in spirawrap or simular to hold the wiring loom together another good place for the heavy cable is a welding supply store as they use it for earths for welding lol ( 12 or 24 volts only )
  16. idealy a 110ah battery should not be used to start engines they are designed to be charged and discharged constantly and not provide the ammount of amps required to start engines where 200amps and more on diesel engine in the cold pull to start them this can cause warping of the plates in a leisure battery and so lose its use prematurely your better having a 644 model battery for starting or a 645 (poles reversed) http://www.querycat.com/faq/64d0cd44de3 ... 496e025182 above gives lots more info
  17. the bends are too tight jonny deffo but the length dont help dont guess at the length either pull one back into the engine bay so its right at the helm then mark it off for the gears and for the throttle with an indellable marker pen so you know the correct length pull it ouit of the boat making sure you tie a strong string to the end to pull the right length back into place also the helm needs rebuilding and making solid as the morse lever you have is a bit 10-1 as the hard movement has weakened the mounts http://www.controlsandcables.com/kobelt/kobeltpp.htm now theres a thought a 3 stage electric motor fwd-neutral-rev sorry for the extra rough drawing lol
  18. apparently diesel forms sulphides when in contact with zinc and copper http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_does_dies ... and_copper
