    P.s with float fishing the float will be bobbing up and down in the water then suddenly drop below the surface. That's when you have a fish. i can make a quick video how to set up a float later but how you setup a float changes with water depth and you'd need to learn how to check water depth. branden

    Hi Gareth, the way to tell if you have a fish is the tip of the rod will twitch/ bend. The more you fish the more you will be able to tell if the rod bending is a bite or if it's just the wind. when in doubt, just reel the line in a little and if there is a fish on, you will be able to feel it pulling back. i never mentioned unhooking which is something there are many many videos of online but you will need to buy something called a Disgorger( looks like a plastic pen) which is used to unhook fish.     Hi Gareth I would recommend ledgering over float fishing as although float fishing is easier it's a lot harder to set up properly. I made a quick video for you to explain a ledger set up. Hope it helps Branden

    Had a good one today. Little twitches on the rod tip as I was busy teaching my nephew how to cast out. I glanced at the rod and brushed it off as being the wind. As I continued giving the nephew tips (as if I knew what I was on about) he turned and said you've got a fish. Still little twitches so I decided to let him reel in off chance of their being a tiddler on the hook. he started off well then began struggling to reel in so I took over. Heres what we reeled in. I then attempted to show him how to use a discorger and after failing I asked a nearby fisherman for help. He also couldn't help so said we'll have to pull it and hope for the best Turns out the we'd actually hooked a tiddler which attracted the attention of a greedy fish on the way in which swallowed the fish which had the hook in its mouth. Overall we caught 7 fish today and the best part is my nephew is now hooked on fishing

    Hi Wooster, I hope you get a chance to fish sometime this year. I'm one for watching people fish and I've learnt all I know from friends and over the last 3 years by watching my father in law. He has things which make it hard for him to get fishing but he's bloody determined to go this year. My advice for whilst you can't fish is to pass any tips and experiences/stories from your fishing on through the forum, as I'm sure we'd all love to hear the stories. And keep an eye out for everyone else's tales as they tend to get funny and elaborate on here. P.s Here's my first fish of the season to get things going. Caught on a bit of bread at brundall

    I'm awkward as I've got 2 tablets for the boat. Motorola media edition 10" tab for navigation apps and quick photos and the Lenovo yoga tab 2 13" (with built in projector) for movies music etc. The Lenovo tab is the best I've ever had. Great screen quality and battery life is amazing when watching movies.

    I only moor round the corner near brundall so will try and pop along for a pint and a plate of whitebait. Never been to a meet so will be good to try and pop along and put some faces to names. If there's no space on the day I'll moor in the hedgerow Branden

    Finally got to the boat today to do the repairs. Turns out the tow eye was bent, the wood support was snapped and one of the holes for the tow eye had been drilled to a size m10 whereas the bolt was a m6. In the end I completely removed the tow eye, drilled the other hole to a m10 and put 2 m10 bolts through the hull and epoxied into place. Not the neatest repair but the boat is back to fully watertight

    Out of curiosity if I wanted to take my dandy across Breydon from burgh castle across to Yarmouth what tide would I be best to take, slack, coming in or going out? I ask as I went past burgh castle towards the old Berney arms against the tide and wind and we were crashing up and down full throttle averaging 4.92 mph. It was pretty fun if I'm honest although the wife felt a bit queasy

    Hi Vaughan, about 5 minutes after posting the topic I realised that the sealant used around the tow eye on the outside of the boat had cracked and a section had flaked off. That's why the water is getting in. Looks to be a simple case of removing the eye, resealing then bolting back on. unfortunately I'm not back on the boat till tomorrow so will know for sure then. branden

    Hi forumites, while cruising yesterday I noticed we were sitting a little low in the water. I checked the bilge and we'd been taking on quite a lot of water. I've found the leak is coming from the towing hook on the front of the boat. The hook sits out of the water at the mooring but gets submerged when cruising and that's when the waters been coming in. What would be the best method of removing the fitting and filling the bolt holes? It's a fibreglass boat but the fitting if very very hard to reach the nuts from inside the boat, but easy to reach the outside fitting. thanks in advance Branden

    All currency is counterfeited eventually so it will be interesting to see what security measures they put in place for the new notes.     Good ole red ex carb cleaner straight in the fuel tank or Wynns carburettor and air intake sprayed straight in the air intake will certainly help clear things up Branden

    It's great when your looking to buy a boat but don't know what make to get. Walk around and see a boat you like the look of. Get the number and a quick search later you know the manufacturer and can start researching the make of boat to decide if it's one you'd like to own.

    That's one of the things on my list to check when I next go down. Will be annoyed if it is, as I've only done roughly 10 hours on the new prop although I did fit it last year but haven't had a chance to use it very much. If it is at least it's an easy fix. Thanks for the advice, I'll update once I've been back down the boat. Branden

    Just thought, could a new inline fuel filter be the issue? The old one was small and the pipe layed flat inside the cowling whereas the new one from the service kit is about 4 times the size and now sits above the fuel in and is held in place loosely by cable ties. I may be restricting the fuel by having the filter high up and may have a pinch point in the fuel line. could this cause half power?

    Hi Grendel, yes it fully opens as the lever is pressed down by the throttle.

    There's a small gap so the plunger isn't pressed unless I accelerate. The outboard sits perfectly in neutral, goes into gear and pulls out of the mooring at the normal pace and rpm. As I leave the mooring and accelerate the outboard accelerates smoothly and rpm rises as normal but at full throttle it still sounds sweet but doesn't have any go? No hiccups and no cutting out. Full throttle has the sound and power of 1/3 throttle. Branden.

    Make sure to take plenty of photos throughout the build as I'd love to see it. My wife's uncle used to make a lot of these "back in the day" and I've heard no end of stories of relatives having a go and ripping through the floor as they step in directly on the canvas missing the many wooden supports.

    I fix one thing and another thing plays up. Everything is now working but I can only go 3-4mph at full throttle I'm losing hope of getting the outboard sorted. Got a few things to check and if they don't work It doesn't look like I'll be cruising anytime soon as can't afford repairs at the moment. Oh the joys of boating on a budget .
