  1. lol terrible website 'greasemonkey' lol no not really it's ok and does the job. out of interest you say the fridge is a compressor type are they heavy on the batteries or is it gas/240v
  2. i still have 3/4 cone of the proper thread i got when i did my old canopy which is handy. yes i used the sticky tape which helped. if anyone has a norman 20 i would love to see how the frame is positioned etc for my reference please
  3. have you got any pics of the norman? i actually did the canopy 2 years ago so this is kind of an old thread. but i will say the canopy isn't very good, it does the job and isn't bad but now i see others about i realise i did things wrong, ie the tops i made them go down the sides too far and the sides are smaller. I'm actually in the process of buying a norman 20 which i will need to make the frame and canopy and actually everything as it's just a shell i think, but i do like a project :)
  4. well after seeking advice off 2 ppl who i know well and are outboard specialists they have both confirmed not to touch it because of the drive shaft snapping. to snap a drive shaft takes such a major force on the prop that it would of damaged the gearbox etc so it's basically a money pit or an expensive paper weight and with it being an 80's engine also not worth the money
  5. i've kinda bought a 35hp outboard off shpock and the drive shaft has snapped in 2 i haven't paid for it or collected it yet, i have spoken to my local outboard supplier and they said in the 50 years they've been doing outboards they've never known 1 to snap so have said be very weary with it. so i'm now kinda dubious as to wether to go through with the purchase or not due to this knowledge. the seller hasn't told me why it snapped even though i have asked. but the picture shows the shaft still in the gearbox and it the shaft is poking out about the length of the gearbox and the snap is at a diagonal. they haven't got the snapped off bit though and don't mention where it is. again even though i've asked i know they are hardened stainless steel aparently so it does make you wonder whats happened to it
  6. thanks for the input it's bridge stores and i'm not going to say anything about that but i won't be getting one from there
  7. i have a 35hp mercury long shaft and i need a replacement drive shaft pls if anyone knows of 1 for sale or where i can get 1 from pls at a reasonable price. thanks steve
  8. has it got the auto shut off valves pls?
  9. well i am now wanting a slightly bigger boat than my 17' one so i was thinking about a 20' boat i have seen a cpl of projects (which is what i want) around the £200 with trailers (obviously thats just a shell) they are both norman 20's just wondering if anyone knows or has something for sale around suffolk/norfolk as both boats are 3-4 hrs away
  10. let me know if you still want a hand i have quite a few websites and host a few for ppl i know on-line shops normal websites etc
  11. oh yes never thought of that actually even after 1 season on display they fade and deteorate quickly good thinking
  12. Just a thought as i'm thinking of getting a new project why aren't boat canopies made out of the same material tents are made from? they are waterproof and have windows sewn into them, just a lot lighter than the usual vinyl/canvas and easier to chuck in the washing machine if needed lol
  13. okies been down the boat this morning again it turns out the multimeter is faulty took my other meter down with me to double check the black is in the common (middle) port which is how my other one is also and with my 2nd meter all reads fine with the meter i had on the boat it still reads - so the meter must be faulty so that'll go back and i'll get it swapped thanks for all your help peeps
  14. sorry tell a lie it was £18.49 brand new :)
  15. no i'm the only person that i know of lol i did fit a cigar aux socket with 2x usb's built in but i've also done other stuff at the same time i'll go down tomorrow and take all the fuses out and start from scratch there isn't much there so it won't take too long hopefully
  16. i only noticed it the other day after i ran the batteries flat after leaving the coolbox running all night lol
  17. well i did replace the whole winch it cost about £15 on flebay for the complete unit with the webbing strap type it now pulls on lovely really smooth
  18. yes the batteries are correct and yes the leads are correct on the multimeter and no i don't have a freeman :) it's a vanguard thunderjet, 17' with 4 stroke 15hp outboard
  19. just tested my electrics on my 12v boat it is reading -12.6v yes i have the red on the positive and the black on earth wiring i gather i have something shorting out somewhere? if i swap the connectors round so black is on positive and red on earth it reads 12.6v as normal is it a short somewhere????
  20. Brill thanks for that, that all makes sense now i can see it. I went down my boat yard today and looked at a similar size boat to mine and they had rating of 750 and the winch was about the same size with webbing strap, so i think mine is prob the same rating. I now know what sort of thing i'm after. Thanks for the help
  21. yes mine is the steel wire which is why i want to swap it for a strap type. my winch isn't great but does the job ok i just don't like the wire and think it won't be big enough for rope as it's look quite small
  22. sorry should of said it's to winch boat onto trailer at slipway, not a very steep slipway but still a slope
  23. Hiya I have a 17' weekender it's similar to a shetland 2+2 i have a 15hp 4 stroke outboard yamaha and it hasn't much stuff inside, portaloo, seating in the back area 2 batteries fuel tank what i would like to know is does anyone know of what size hand winch to get pls? my old one has no rating and does it ok it's just quite stiff and the cable is rusty now so i want to replace it for a new one with a strap thanks
  24. i made mine so it can be opened at the top with a strap to hold the frame in position so you didn't have to put it all the way down. it was a pain to make in general tho and i swore never again lol
  25. oh well the bleach solution didn't touch it. i'll just have to leave it as it'll last another year or so and then do another one in the vinyl rather than the canvas and it will be red and not beige
