  1. Anyone know how to make the table pls?? it's very similar to the baby shetland ie has a table that then makes part of the bed I have the bit of wood but no fixings for it at all so not sure how they attach to the boat if anyone has any ideas pls
  2. Thanks for the reply I am handy with a sewing machine and have quite a good one although it is only a domestic. the 1 thing that is putting me off is all the fixings as there is zips, press studs, the push hole things and holes with rubber bungies in them I have the old ripped hood so do have a template. I don't have deep pockets and far from it lol I do know a good engine man though KenMar marine bless him Ken is a good friend and a handy man to know when it comes to engines, but unfortunately he doesn't have any for sale at the mo. What sort of size hp do you reckon i should go for ???? i was thinking around the 10HP as it'll only be broads but have read i should be going for more like 20HP
  3. Oh yes what is a good thickness for the cushions that go inside and around the back? I was thinking about 2" and then cover them in beige or white vinyl
  4. Hi I've just bought a Vanguard Thunderjet 17 foot (or at least i think thats what it is pic is attached if anyone can clarify ) It's mostly there but has ben stripped ready to have the wood rubbed and varnished. The hood is 1 thing i do need though so if anyone knows who does canopy's fairly cheap as the prices i've seen are around the 1k mark which is way too much for my budget. I'm also after an outboard prob around the 10hp size as will only be using it on the broads. Will post more pics as i'm going along still yet to figure a name out for her as well

  6. I believe she's in Switzerland, she came back when he was 1st diagnosed but went back when he started to improve. I made some signs for Mike to surprise her to go on her mini
  7. yes as i said i spoke to him regularly and he said he was doing really well after the treatment and sounded really positive. but i suppose the infection he caught was just too fierce for him it really shocked both my wife and myself when i got the email earlier
  8. Sad post...... Not sure how many of you knew Mike who was the harbour master at beccles Quay? But he was diagnosed with Leukaemia in the summer after having trouble breathing. I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago and he said he was doing well after treatment but..... I just received an email saying that Mike sadly died last night (saturday) after getting an infection last week. For those of you that knew Mike he was really friendly and always helped you out when he could with letting you moor up and pop into town without paying etc. His wife Anna and daughter Debs and him were such a close family, i used to take the mickey out of him when his wife would call him 'My Michael' bless his heart. Mike may you RIP my dear friend Thanks for being a friend you will be sadly missed

  12. ok so i know i'm swearing lol but i have a little rib with an electric outboard on it i will say it's love;y in the fact of it is silent and when we went the other side of beccles bridge where there wasn't any other traffic it was so quiet and lovely the only trouble is they do 4mph max so it took us a long time to do anything and if the tide turns you could be going backwards if not careful lol i noticed the prop is really small with 2 blades can they be swapped for a bigger prop? would this make much difference? the outboard i have is towards the top in size i did enquire if i got a bigger outboard would it make much dif on the speed and was told about 1-2 mph lol brill invention but they need to make them quicker thanks steve
  13. we've had LED's for a while now and have 2 types on our boat the 1st are round metal ones with a switch with about 12 leds these are ok but not very bright at all you couldn't read a book and we had 7 in our forward cabin 10' x 11' (lounge and galley) so what i did was i went to wickes and got some of them directional spotlights that use the 12v transformer, which you throw away they come in a pack of 6 for about £20 i think and then changed the bulbs for LED ones off flebay they have about 40 LEDS in them and they are great i wish i'd of done the whole boat in them when i re-done the interior roof of the wheelhouse i put 6 in on 2 switches thankfully i only ever need to have 1 switched on and annoyingly i could of got away with 3 in total or maybe 4 i sit in my wheelhouse all the time on the pc etc and these lights are really bright hope that helps

  15. warm air heater nope i have a normal household combo boiler running the radiators we live on here don't forget lol trouble is with anything 240v i need the engines to start to charge the batteries which run the inverter to provide 240v lol so not really an option is it ????? where we will be moving to in a couple of months we won't have shore power anymore so i need to get the engines all sorted so they'll start actually i need to get engine 1 working but thats another story lol
  16. Thanks for the advice so far folks all seem to be way expensive
  17. the flame thing is a more advanced way of the old fashioned way they used to start these engines in winter they used to put a piece of scrunched up newspaper in the inlet and set fire to it my engines are ford 2700 which were used in the old tractors and buses yrs ago
  18. the hole in the floor won't work as the button is tucked away in an awkward place on the injector pump as well lol i would literally have to remove 2 units/seats and then a piece of flooring i can't even get to it by laying on top of the engine not a good design is it?
  19. Hi folks I have twin ford 2700 straight 6 (dorset) engines on my tub This time of year the engines do not start because there's no glow plugs or plugs or pre-heater etc anywhere the only thing there is, is a button on the injector pump that you push in while the throttle is on full and as soon as the throttle is released it pops out this is all well and good but to get at them i have to remove the floor as with twin engines..... well you can imagine so i heard somewhere someone saying about flame plugs? does anyone know about these or know anything betterer for my needs pls thanks
  20. yes i'm based here at beccles Quay now and we were out all day when we got back Mike the harbour master was still in his office at 6.30pm i said what are you still doing here and he told me he was helping with a boat fire just up the river what a sad affair and as mentioned horrific and upsetting to see your baby going down he did say they were burnt and were taken to hospital for treatment hopefully they'll be ok you can always replace possessions but life is more precious
  21. i wish i had a few K knocking about i'd love to buy a broads boat i could do up but i've just spent all my savings and maxed all my cards out doing this one it'll take me a couple of yrs to pay everything off i reckon lol i need to get my printing business busy to pay for it all anyone need any personalised mugs, t-shirts, coasters or vinyl for boat names done gimme a shout
  22. well it's all on i now have a blister on the palm of my hand but it's on the ally went on great with heating it up on the bends and the rubber has a lip top and bottom i just put it all on the bottom and top in places to secure it then went round and put all the top in it looks great now with rubbing strip finally on her now for the non-slip paint and anti-foul
  23. Anteres you are a diamond chap i done exactly what you said and bent a 90degree bend perfectly with my knee i had to put a rag on my knee as it was ruddy hot but it bent it lovely nice and carefully i now have 1 corner and 2 strips of rubbing strip on my boat it's the 1st time we've ever know it to have it as it was missing when we got it 3 yrs ago she is a happy lady now is there a knack of fitting the rubber insert? i haven't tried yet but if it's anything like the rubber on the old car windscreens they are a pain in the rear lol thanks again for the perfect advice
  24. i know Richardsons have a boat graveyard somewhere we tried to find it when we were looking to buy a boat but couldn't so we ended up with this old girl pity though cos i still really really want a broads boat maybe in the future (no so distant) i will sell this and me my broads boat one that needs work other wise i won't have anything to do lol
  25. well i finally got through to them, i will say they are a nightmare to try and speak to i think they must close mondays as not even the recpetionist answered lol anyway yes they are cheaper than anyone else but only stock ally stuff so i've gone with that got the whole lot for £245 thats £100 cheaper than any other quotes i did try and get a bit of discount but they weren't having it next question is how on earth do i bend it round 90 degrees and even worse about 100 degrees for the bow looks like i'll be doing a lot of and asking for divine help later
