  1. he's a member on here and based at wrc his dad is Dave s i'm sure he won't mind if you sent him a pm, he's a nice chappy
  2. my insurance is only 3rd party anyway and i've never known an insurance company to pay out anyway lol
  3. depends on how handy you are i know Grant s made his own dash and i've seen it and tbh it looks like a pro did it lovely vinyl with piping to match the rest of the boat i'm going to do something similar with mine eventually once i finally get all my gauges sorted out but as i have twin engines and a million switches for various things on the boat (i like to be able switch things on and off) i'll need loads of little labels i do vinyl printing but have never done anything that small so may be looking at pro made tiny signs as well
  4. right just ordered all the fittings with strainers and 1/4 turn shut off valves etc so at least it'll be safe now in the event of a failure one question though please if i may is what do you use to seal the fittings? on the ones i took off it looked like plumbers mate was used....... is that the right kind of stuff to use on all the hull under water fittings? thanks
  5. i ordered the west stuff now anyway :~ loadsa money lol
  6. brill thanks for that i've just found my box of fastglass filler stuff and have order some caboldy stuff off flebay so hopefully that won't be too long getting here thats 1 question sorted just a million to go
  7. ouch i think they aren't cheap lol thats about the amount i intend on paying for all the fittings lol
  8. okies i'll dig the floors up and have a look thanks
  9. I think thats what they are called the things that stop the water coming in through where the prop shaft comes out? i have a birchwood 33 with twin engines and they drip quite a lot i have been told i can tighten them? is this right? if so how on earth do you do it? if not are they expensive to replace? do the prop shafts have to come off i'm out at goodchilds but can't really afford to get them to do too much as money is tight as always
  10. Hi i've pulled the boat out for work etc and none of my hull fittings have taps that work so while it's out i want to sort all them out, but i have a few questions please i have twin ford 2700 straight 6 diesel engines, do i need the scoop fittings? or can i just replace them with normal flat fittings (with taps ob lol ) also the sea toilet will need 2 holes as the loo used to be in the front but i've moved it to the back (hence more holes to be filed as in other thread lol) is it best to have a scoop fitting for this? as i noticed on out journey down it was struggling to bring the water up (altho it did have to pull it quite some distance altho it's fine when we're standing still) also whats best these days plastic or bronze for these fittings? also i think i need strainers on my engines don't i? if so what sort please (sorry as you can tell i've never even looked at this sort of thing before)
  11. oh right kool so the epoxy resin is strong enough to actually fill the hole? obviously with matting to bridge the gap and put as much matting in the hole as possible it doesn't need to be too cosmetic because none of the holes will be seen
  12. Hi i have a thick GRP hull 1970's birchwood there are lots of old through hull fittings which are basically in the way or in the wrong place and some i've drilled and then thought oops lol so i've now took the old girl out of water to sort them out what is the best way to sort the holes out, what i was going to do was fibreglass a patch from the inside after it is cleaned properly then fill with polyester body filler from the outside to blend it in with the rest of the boat there's no gel coat to worry about as it's a rough old boat anyway and i'm now going to sand her all down and paint and polish anyway i think the gel coat is under layers of paint and fibreglass anyway lol
  13. they had a 999 day on OB they dropped one of the crew in the water and he set a flare off which was bad timing as the wind wipped up and carried the flare off over the houses lol i was annoyed as i found out about the day in the eve and we missed it
  14. yes i spoke to the BA ranger yesterday who said he'd spent the day rescuing boats and told me about the idiots who untied these boats there's some horrid ppl about
  15. go on then hands up if your boat was on there lol i think to be fair most of use can say there's something on our boats now or has been that could be put on a clip like that i know when i 1st got my boat and wired it up (i'm an ex builder) i just bought normal T+E wire (the hard stuff) it passed the safety though i'm glad to say it has all been ripped out now and replaced with marine flex (loads more expensive though)
  16. Thanks for all the info folks sorry i haven't been on here much lately i managed to get most things wired up apart from the pump the only way i could get that to work was manually using a switch which kinda defeats the object of having a timer really if you have to flick a switch to stop it tripping itself out. anyway i have now decided to keep my combi boiler the ebby doesn't seem to do what i want it to compared with the combi boiler so i will actually have an ebby for sale and calorfier etc lol oh well more money down the drain
  17. i have Reggatta and Helly hansen stuff and the reg is no where near as good as the HH you can get the waterproof over stuff its lightweight and really waterproof and then if you want you can get base linings and a fleece to go under it for warmth the reg is obviously cheaper than HH though and reg do a good range for the really good stuff too
  18. the ones from sea screw are a good price for SS thanks for the info chaps
  19. Hiya my rails on my after deck are just upright rails i'd like to top them off with some timber etc can anyone suggest a way to attack the rail to the wood i looked at these from B&Q but as you can imagine they aren't very good quality and prob won't laste 5 mins outside either and they are nearly £10 for 2 daylight robbers anyway anyone done anything similar?
  20. great pics and looked like a fab weekend as usual and well done to a heroic Claire
  21. thanks for that anteras does anyone have a profile picture of what the seal should look like as i haven't even got one on mine it's a bit hard to find one if you don't know what your looking for
  22. my 9.8 mercury is missing the rubber seal for the cowl hence it is louder than it should be does anyone know a cheap way to get around this? or of a supplier that sells them cheap the only one i've found was on fleabay for a bigger Hp and it wasn't that cheap for a bit of rubber
  23. i like the idea of a grant !!!!!!!!!! anyone got any ideas where i could get one from
  24. i got told by a friendly (but nutty) (on a rib anyway) heating engineer that because my engine is raw water cooled ie i have NO heater exchanger thing that it won't get it hot enough that's fine because i would have no idea how to connect it anyway lol thats why i thought about having a 12v supply so when i'm moving that'll heat it that way for freeeee (i like free stuff)
  25. all these young wipper snappers with the planing hulls lol let us old folks with the SD hulls have our pipes and slippers
