With the single engine low speed steering issue, by dropping one of the trim tabs on the running engine side will the drag act as a secondary rudder? Ian

Hi, We found Polycell Mould Killer 3 in 1 very effective for dealing with mould stains on canvas. I think there is some extra chemical in the formula that makes it better than others on the market. When we first had Tamara some canvas was very stained, we sprayed it prior to the winter lay up and in the spring the canvas was back to white. If you do use it it might be worth checking it will not damage the colour of the canopy. Ian (boatless for 8 days )

Hi, Tamara has now been sold and is going to a Yacht Club in the Cambridge area. We are sad to see her go but intend to change our boating style in the new year. If anyone is interested I have put up a 1934 and 1950 Blakes brochure on ebay as these had details of Tamara's days when in hire. looking forward to the New Year and new boat! Ian

Hi, We spotted these Cranes on Horsea last week. Also spotted was an Otter. The wildlife tour boat came along just after it disappeared However we let them know about the sighting so they drifted around with the engine off for a short while, and were rewarded when the Otter surfaced beside the boat. There were a lot of happy people on board Ian

Hi, Something happened on Salhouse last night and the Broads rescue team turned out and searched the Broad with powerful searchlights. I do not know what was the cause, but we hope the outcome was OK. Last night it made us think about if one of us was overboard in the dark we would need all the help we could get. Ian

Hi, The sound of the BBF flying over is quite special to me as I was involved with the re-grinding of their worn camshafts for the flight's Merlin engines. One of the shafts for re-profiling had a note on it referring to it having been salvaged from a Norwegian fjord. At Zephyr Cams Lowestoft, we also made some new camshafts for them on the original machines that made them in WW2. But that was a long, long time ago Ian

Perry (pks1702) organized a multiple BBQ test Friday night, and Saturday had 5 going at once David (Antares 9) and Gertie kept an eye on the boating skills on the Broad. Hi, The spirit stove is not as good as the paraffin stove for heat output and economy. However the fact lighting the Spirit stove is instantaneous means you start cooking so much quicker than the Taylors. The time difference to start cooking then reduces the effect the lower heat out put makes. Our stove is in the back of the boat so almost in the open air as the fumes can make your eyes sting but equally the Taylors always smelled of Paraffin. If I had the choice now I would still go for the spirit stove over the paraffin. Ian

Hi, We had a Taylors paraffin stove and it passed the BSS, the only problem we had was the armoured fuel line that had to be replaced with a rubber hose with numbers printed on it as it was safer However shortly after the test we removed the Taylors as it was such a hassle to start, with 3 foot flames and soot blackening the canopy, and replaced it with a Spirit stove. The meths for the spirit stove is more expensive but so much less hassle. As meths evaporates and does not build up in the bilge I think the BSS is not a problem. Ian

Hi, Hose clips are an often ignored, even when doing a very important job like leveling a table at a Katherine Jenkins concert (evidence cropped from the photo). I recommend using only good clips as breakage of the clip can result in cake falling off the table and spillage of wine. They are also quite useful for keeping boats afloat Ian

Hi, I just had a look at the pictures of the outboard on Ebay and I think the the out of gear/in gear lever is missing. Even if the outboard is in gear it will still turn over the engine when the starter is pulled. As scrap value for it is about £2, best bet get rid or it on Ebay as spares or repair..... Ian

It is worth noting Ludham is the next village over from Potter, and is just a few miles by car. It is also a good place to walk the dog down Horsefen road, it leads past the staithe, Hunters yard and ends up by the river. Ian
