  1. Potter bridge is so marginal for most craft, the only sure way of knowing is to head up there and speak to the pilot.
  2. Thanks Bruce, but I'm afraid the deal has already been done though, and most of the gear has now been sold on eBay. The problem is having the time to get out there and needing the cash for other things. Boating takes up most of my spare time, and now the wedding will take all of the spare cash too I am thinking of re-investing some of it in a camera a little easier to carry about, like an Olympus Pen or similar. Any views on those?
  3. I moved to Norfolk from Essex 14 years ago this month and have never regretted it Stu. I got made redudant 4 years ago (also this month!) but managed to get going self-employed and am still hanging in there. I suppose it depends on what sort of field you are in, as we all know what the jobs market is like at the moment, but if you look long and hard enough, something will turn up. What time are you expecting to pass through Reedham today? I could pop down an take a picky or two as you pass?

    The Chet

It is ok except for the very bendy bit at the Yare end and all the metal posts they put in a few years back. There is another very twisty bit near Hardley Flood which is quite lovely. The problem is meeting something on one of those bends, but that's the advantage of being on the flybridge as you don't get suprised! A couple of the bends are too tight for Secret Lady to turn on rudders alone so some jiggling with the engines is called for to actually get round them. Still a lovely river though!
  5. Not good news Stu, but try not to let it spoil the rest of your holiday.
  6. You must certainly have charged the batteries today then!!
  7. That is very sad news indeed. Condolences to the family.

    The Chet

Just a couple of snaps from my Iphone. We went up the Chet to Loddon on Thursday for the first time in Secret Lady. I'd forgotten just how narrow it gets in a couple of places! Luckily the river was quiet and we only passed one other boat. Depth was also a concern to me, but the shallowest we saw on the sounder was 1.2m so just enough water. We had a decent curry in the Dilraj, but having seen the menu at The Swan, I think we may try the food there next time we are down that way!
  9. Yes I was wondering about the pilot, that would have been the easy option and allowed you to cruise the lovely stretch up to Coltishall? The bridge gauge at Wroxham is quite pessimistic and should have given plenty of clearance for a 6'9" boat if showing 7'0".
  10. Not yet, but I'm pretty sure I've isolated the dodgy unit now. It's definately the autopilot head unit causing the problem. I have added ferrite cores to all the seatalk cables in the viscinity and then wrapped the connection in aluminium foil. Early tests seem encouraging, but with an intermittent fault like this only time will tell I guess!
  11. Coldham is a super pub. Excellent food, and we'll al be decending on the place in October for the meet!!
  12. Just to update, to 70-300 zoom lens has now been sold separately. I am happy to split any of the other items to sell individually too.
  13. Hi Marty, welcome to the forum! Personally I'd avoid Yarmouth. It's a long trip down quite a featureless stretch of river from Acle to Yarmouth, and not that pretty when you get there! The moorings at the yacht station are not for the faint hearted (and I believe unattended out of season). There have been cases of boats being untied in the middle of the night by the local yoof too, resulting in damage to boats as they are swept along by the strong tide. Yarmouth itself doesn't really have much nightlife out of season other than a few pubs, most of which are a fair walk from the moorings. Sorry if I'm painting a bit of a bleak picture! If it's a night out you are after, I would have thought a better bet would have been to catch a train from Wroxham into Norwich, where there are loads of clubs and bars on offer just a short walk from the station. Most if not all of the riverside pubs are open all year.
  14. Ok, so nothing to do with boats, but I thought I'd post up here before eBay! I have my DSLR camera equipment for sale. I was really into my photography until a couple of years ago, but have lost the enthusiasm. I can't help thinking that the camera that has only been used twice this year is more boaty stuff just waiting for the capital to be liquidated...! Camera body: Canon EOS 50D Lenses: Canon EF-S 17-85 4-5.6 IS USM & Canon EF 70-300 4-5.6 IS USM (both with hoods) Flash unit: Canon Speedlite 580EX II The camera will come with spare batteries, charger, spare memory cards, remote wireless trigger and carry case. Retail value of the above when new was approx £2000 excluding all the spares etc. but I am asking £1000. I also have various Lee filters and a very good tripod if anyone is interested. PM for further details!
  15. Shameless plug or not Clive, one photo duly uploaded to your Facebook page!!
  16. I must admit I thought A4 and 316 were the same thing. I think the "A" reference is normally applied fixings and 316 (often referred to as Marine Grade) is for stock.
  17. Not if it was this weekend Lori. as we just went from Reedham to Brundall.
  18. We anchored on Surlingham Broad overnight on Saturday, and were treated to one of the best sunset's I have seen for years. Unfortunately these pics don't do it full justice, but give an idea of the colours and the reflections!
  19. Interesting you mention the archery. A few years ago I used to shoot at Taverham archers, where one of the paralymipic archers, Mel Clark, also shoots. She has also achieved silver in this year's event to add to the bronze from Beijing, and is the archer in the current Sainsbury's advert. She had overcome paraplegia, blindness in one eye and deafness to become one of the countries top archers. Quite amazing.
  20. Why would rev counter accuracy make any difference? It's only a reference point so whether it's reading 1000 revs or 1400 revs at 4mph, surely it's irrelevant
  21. Brian, as Matt says, the moorings at Geldeston are pretty good at the Locks. I wouldn't bother going the other way towards the Wherry as from memory there is only a single public mooring there, which last time I went was taken up with a residential boat. It's a very pretty stretch, but narrow and shallow. I don't think there is any powerboat racing at Oulton after this coming weekend according to their fixture list http://www.lobmbc.org.uk/#/fixture-list/4553589077 Finally, check the opening times at the Fishermans at Burgh Castle. It is supposed to be pretty good, but I've not managed to be there when it is open! As an alternative, the Bell Inn pub by St Olaves bridge is very nice too.
