  1. As above but don’t forget that whilst up for sale owners are still responsible for the costs every month and at this time of year a few hundred quid for the winter maintenance.

Special Shares - I think Thunder is unique of the BCBM managed boats in having this. Essentially there are two*4 week shares and one 2 weeks share which have priority in the allocation chart. Essentially they are school holiday shares.

We have just given the go ahead for a front bathroom refurb on Thunder which should be completed over the winter.

  2. Just this year at Ranworth a young lady tipped out of a dinghy right next the quay. Wearing an auto inflate life jacket which did its job.

2 men on each arm and she still could not get out.

Fortunately on Thunder we have a rope ladder which I hooked over a mooring post and with help she was able to clamber out. Of course not having paid any attention to said rope ladder previously (I mean how difficult can it be?) I had it upside down which meant the grippers were on the underside of the steps and I suspect the steps were floating around a bit more than they were supposed to........

  3. We definitely intend to keep returning to the Broads. This was our sixth visit and by no means our last. The issue is that we only manage to get there about once every couple of years, the reason being both my wife and I work in the airline/travel industry and we are lucky enough to have many opportunities to travel further afield. But despite the fact that we travel to many of the most exotic places on the planet, the Norfolk Broads is a firm favourite with the whole family. A syndicate which offers school shares is a very definite possibility.

Our next visit will be to the south, although tides permitting we will probably do a bit of the north too. I absolutely love the river Ant!

Thunder currently has a school share for sale. The first time one has been for sale since the syndicate formed....

  4. Simple physics- put more heat in that escapes through the many vents and gaps on a boat!

We used to take some easy peel decorating tape to plug the gaps around the canopy when we had a share in Evening Shadow. Bit of a pain to lower the canopy mind!

  5. I did wonder whether they are able to facilitate a syndicate boat operation, re maintainance, turnarounds, fuel and pump out, and on shore facilities etc?. I may have a look at their faceache page and put the question to them?.

    They don’t currently open Saturdays.

  6. [quote post="
W3W will not tell the responders the route to get to the location.

There is a navigate to button down the bottom. Mine then offers me a choice of apps to use for hands free directions.

  7. I like it!

If you have your 3 words and you need to dial 999 you give them the three words. This is then passed to responding officer/crew etc.

They then press a button on their phone and say those three words into the App. They then press another button which opens google maps which provides directions.

    It really is that simple.

  8. Hi Matt,
    Thanks for the answer.
Can i ask how do you find only having 1 summer week every two years .

    Thanks
    Hayley

When Thunder (and other BCBM managed syndicates) were first set up there was 12.5 shares with the 0.5 share having fixed weeks in Spring and summer. That’s the share I have so we have a spring and summer week every year. It’s also a school’s holiday share so it’s a school holiday week every year.

  9. Several times I have seen people flying drones from the roof of their cruiser whilst moored at Ranworth Staithe. Just last month one flew around the green at Ranworth at about 12 foot off the ground much to the amusement of its pilot!

  10. You may joke, but some people bring all sorts of things onto boats with the expectation that the inverter is able to supply 240V power just like at home (where there's a 100 amp supply).
It has caused a number of issues on some syndicate boats.....

    Tell us more.....

    Actually don’t.

  11. Well, we've been on our new location for a month and so far we have been very pleased with our choice of marina.  What we have found a little disappointing is the quality of the local eating establishments.  The Ferry Inn is o.k. depending on what you order. The carvery is as carveries usually are - hit and miss.  I suppose to sum it up the quality of the food does not warrant the cost. The New Inn was dreadful -  an experience never to be repeated. The Swan was very nice but such small portions,  my cod loin was delicious but the size of a small fish finger, which made it very poor value, whereas Tony's steak was very good We were always very happy with the fare offered at The Yare and are hoping to find something offering similar quality and cost within a reasonable distance. We went to the pub in Ludham last Saturday (The King's Arms?) which  we have used several times over the years when moored at Womak Water and while my meal  was delicious Tony's was disappointing- a tiny lamb shank  with a spoonful of gravy set on top of an enormous pile of mashed potato - not ideal. The search continues.

Nothing there I would disagree with!

The Bure River Cottage is very nice but hardly pub prices.

  12. We arrived at Ranworth at around 4pm on sat. Mud-weighted for about 45mins before a space became available. By dusk there was around 18-20 boats mud-weighted on the Broad and the island looked busy as well. Sunday up to Gayes staithe and actually managed to nab one of the side on moorings at lunchtime. Gayes and Neatishead full up by tea time with many boats arriving and trying their luck over the course of the evening.
