  1. I have value to add here!

We have taken Thunder through North to South one hour before LOW water. We were making 5mph on tickover through the yacht station so not a great deal of steerage no real problem for an experienced helm. Had a bit of an issue when a craft castoff from the Yacht Station ably assisted by Yacht Station staff about 30m in front of us.

The nice past the yellow post we struggled to make 3mph at about 2000 revs until under the big bridge then about 4mph across Breydon- this was before the new engine so we were not pushing it.

I would say that if the weather is forecast for a fine weekend there will probably be a lot of privateers out and about on southern rivers so mooring at London May be a problem!

I did mention that to the Mrs that i was looking forward to a week on Thunder next month but apparently that sort of talk is banned until we get home.......

  3. I think generally in life people just don’t like taking responsibility for themselves. It’s far easier to ring and ask for help - think calls to the ambulance service, calls to the police (9 year old screaming as he won’t go to bed....) etc etc

If there was a Breydon pilot service I suspect it would be often used!

  4. Careful what you say Matt, if anybody from the owners are reading this, they might charge for landing in your dinghy, then charging for walking your dog?.  Before you dismiss this, i did hear elsewhere that some places do make a charge for coming ashore in a dinghy, and charge for the time you`re moored there.
I will add it was NOT on the Broads.

We don’t touch the bank. The dog swims the last 3 yards..........

  5. We generally mud-weight these days and take the dog over in the dinghy when needed.

I would have thought these type of mooring charges do not help the local public houses.

  6. The scan is of Crystal Light 5 which externally is the same as Crystal Stream. The interior layout of Crystal Stream was the same as Western Light.

One of Crystal Lights provided my first ever Broads experience in 1990! We even got under Potter :-)

  7. As a family of 4 who visit the Broads twice a year spending £100 over the two visits on mooring fees is not becoming uncommon.

Of course it is our choice to visit the places that charge upwards of £10 a night to moor but to offset that cost we eat onboard on occasions when we would otherwise have eaten out.

    Swings and roundabouts.

  8. Worth pointing out that I don’t think a combi is any good if you have more than one shower or a pressurised system.

That’s about the limit of my knowledge although I can change a 3 way motorised valve. 3 times in 7 years, each time just outside the 2 year warranty!

  9. Hi Howard,
If you see her in, and you can stop at Brooms, you`re more than welcome to ask Brooms if you can have a look on board Lightning. They always have a key and will show prospective share owners (hint hint lol) around.

And how much do they charge for showing somebody around?

  10. What can I say about Morrisons diesel but this week in a 1300d van I got down to the red section so checked and had done 580 miles, knowing I still had 60 miles in the tank carried on when I got near home it said 615 and checked distant to garage and it gave me a row of ...... think that means your on your own from here. Filled up 55ltrs so still had 40 miles left.
Need to sort my option out this month to either get another van to save paying tax or get a car vectra estate size. I'm not up on company car tax these days and only pay £60 for private fuel now so use the van all the time.
Last week Kaz had her i20 in the garage and they gave us another i20 and I drove off thinking it sounds like a bag of spanners then thought it's 3 cyl but the 1ltr turbo knew how to go when asked, Don't know what mpg it would give only having it a few days.

Well..... we liked the Tucson so much When the 15 year old Corsa needed replacing we bought an i20 Active, 18 months old and with the 3 cyl turbo and you soon get used to the different vibrations and noise when stationery. Only had it a few weeks and all 300 miles have been town driving and when I filled up it was near enough 35mpg.

  11. Unless you have the money to buy a hand-built supercar they're just not genuinely exciting, so as a daily driver you're best off with something solid like a Lexus, Toyota, Honda, Suzuki, Kia or Hyundai. No they're not considered as exciting, and that's because they may not have invested quite as much of your purchase price into marketing the product via TV ads, having the brand in a racing series, events etc etc. The money has been spent on developing the product, making it reliable and getting the basics right.

The accountant in me made me go for an Hyundai!

    No regrets so far.

  12. James Knight, managing director of Waveney River Centre, said: “We know the quality of our boating holidays will be out of this world, which is why we’ve chosen to name our cruisers after constellations.
    Oh dear.

Nothing like setting the bar high is there?!
