Maybe so and to a point I agree, but what about the innocent family / boat lying on the mudweight ?

To what benefit would it be to them? They know he was an idiot, they know the injuries to the family, they know  the damage to the boat.

No insurance company will try to turn down the evidence, of police, coast guard, ambulance in this case.
