Painting Deck Tread

More advice and comments please. The deck tread on my boat is looking tired, my intention is to paint with marine deck paint. I have looked at many who all state  " for use on GRP, Wood & Steel "

but deck tread is none of these, I think probably some kind of rubber construction ?  would this accept painting is my question ?

There is, or was, a paint specifically formulated for Trackmark. Have seen the result of using ordinary enamel and it's not been good.

Treadmaster used to make their own paint but it was always difficult to cover due to the cork content. I knew a chap at Cobbs Quay who bought a boat with blue Treadmaster that looked very out of place on his boat, in the end he found his best solution was one of the high quality masonry paints.

We had beige Treadmaster on the slippy bits of Valoma - repainted every couple of years with fine grit Snowcem!

Yes we have done that on Brilliant, but it was already overpainted several times. I think I wouldn't have done so if we were down to base layer.  We have had a bit of flaking and it is really hard to keep clean.
