It wasn't a pin dish - it was an ashtray!

They were a clever piece of marketing in their day, as every customer used to take them home as a souvenir. Exactly what they were meant for.

Vaughan, technically it would have been imported (probably from China) as a pin dish - ashtrays with the groove to rest your Woodbine in attracted a higher rate of duty back in the day. Of course, everybody used them as ashtrays ,we have just that one at the helm of No Worries !

Although the Blakes dishes I have are not marked, a Hoseason one is and although I can not make out the pottery name it was produced in England.
