Wi-fi Connectivity Whilst On A Hire Boat

Good morning all,

I am Hiring Juliette 2, as per usual, at the beginning of October.

Normally I do not require any connectivity to the outside world apart from an occasional phone signal.

However this time I need to be keeping an eye on emails due to the imminent arrival of grandchild no. 4.

I see that a lot of you use some sort of mobile device to send video footage, for instance.

Please could advise a complete non techie where to begin ?

i'll be taking with me an Iphone (on Vodafone) and a Macbook.

There are always wifi signals in pubs, and wherever I have been, they are offered free.

That's the limit of my knowledge on the subject!

you might create a wifi hotspot from your phone.

i use an o2 mobile internet hotspot that generally keeps me connected via a huwawei dongle thingy

This is my kit. Works all over the place, and fast. The newer version is £15 cheaper and apparently identical according to one reviewer but I'm sticking with what I know. The sim lasts for up to 2 years, no 30 day nonsense.

As always, read the reviews and make your own mind up. We bought from Amazon.

We have usually had a laptop and two phones connected at the same time with no loss of performance. Streaming Virgin TV On The Go (Didn't miss any football !) presented no problems.

very similar to mine motorboater, mine has 12gb data that lasts for a year, thyat is cheaper to gt a new sim than top up an old one.

I use an iPhone and use it for everything I need, social media and emails included. I also use it as a hotspot for my iPad, if for some reason I want to use that. There are one or two places on the Broads where the signal is not great for social media use but virtually everywhere is ok for phone use.

12 gb usually lasts me 11 months so thats about fine

I meant to add that I am on the Tesco mobile network which uses O2 I believe. I have a monthly £10 rocket pack which renews automatically and gives me 8gb data, 5000 texts (!) and 5000 mins talk time. (You can get cheaper packs of course.) Hope that helps.
