unclemike
just taxed my car today, this new system is easy. if you tax 6 mths on my tax level by post office cost £303.50 if i tax for 12 mths cost is £285.00 we now have the option to set up direct debit and pay monthly it costs me £299.25 (5% handling charge) good idea, if i sell car i just cancel direct debit,so job done, no worrying about whether i taxed or not
Arthur
Mine was due 1 October so I missed out on the Direct Debit option this time, Still seems very strange driving around with no disc displayed on the windscreen. Arthur
Baitrunner
The best bit is not having to take your MOT and Insurance docs as well now. In the old days I only ever did the tax on-line thing once and they used to send it to you - got lost in post, no tax disc illegal to drive car. Had to go to local tax office and queue for ever to pay all again and try and reclaim for a lost disc. Always used the local PO in the village since. Even without the need to get a disc now, will still use them as it keeps them open. ps. get a 3.0 litre diesel Audi A5 - £0 tax - no idea how they work it out, but saves a nice bit of wedge.
SueH
I read something somewhere, that the old paper copies of the tax discs are being put onto Ebay for silly money. I may put mine on when it expires, just for a laugh. SueH PS - no tax on a 3.0 litre diesel? It costs me £20 a year on my 1 litre petrol Aygo. It would appear that the Audi produces less emissions than the Aygo. Sigh .....................
BuffaloBill
It would appear that the Audi produces less emissions than the Aygo. Sigh ... Just follow a diesel car after waiting at traffic lights and see who kicks out the most emissions And they wonder why so many people suffer from asthma these days. Petrol and proud The fuel duty should be Against diesels not For them. IMHO as an ex-mechanic.
Arthur
Just had a look on Ebay. What a joke. There are loads of them for sale but I do not see many of them actually selling. I see one hopeful actually asking over £400. Still have my old one. Expired end September. Don't think it would fetch a fortune though. donnygeoff
I don't throw the old ones away, I just put the new one in front. So with the two cars I have 7 or 8 of them..... When I got my toy car, I bought a nice silver metal disc holder, cost me nearly 10 quid, now I don't need it. That's 4 pint beer tokens down the pan....
