BB37
To get their boats to France, they drove them across the channel. Did they take them across the North Sea to get to the Netherlands, or were they taken by lorry?
JawsOrca
I suspect they go on a low loader, although there are bathtubs which frequently go from the Medway to the Thames which involves a short trip out via the north sea. I've heard of skippers which do the run in river cruisers from the Thames over to Ireland although they probably do pick good weather.. don't forget any boat go to sea in good weather .. JanetAnne
Back in the day, to transport a boat by road required lots of forms filled in (in triplicate of course) and the police notified. All wide loads required a proper police escort and lots of waiting around as eash police force met the load as it crossed their area. Bridges were not as high either and it was always A11 rather than A12 when height was an issue going south out of Lowestoft. Then there were cranes to be met and paid for... Bearing all that in mind a quick trip out of Yarmouth and hug the coast down to Dover was the easy and cheap option. Follow a ferry across and job done! LondonRascal
The Bounty Owners Club website is no more - there was on there a downloadable Brochure showing one of the boats 'at sea'. However you may find some of the archived pages of interest: https://web.archive.org/web/20090820093247/http://www.bountyboatowners.com/index.html
stumpy
Robin - from what I recall the 'at sea' pic was an Elysian (same hull, slightly more rounded topsides) with a Ford Corsair V6 under the bonnet......hmmm I wonder. LondonRascal
I recall, and I may be wrong, but seeing somewhere a black & white photo of a centre cockpit Bounty and it was not on a river or Broad..I suspect it was in the brochure that is no longer available for download from the former site I linked to above. As to Elysian's at sea, here is a video:
