  1. I am in the process of evaluating my winter experiment on the water/diesel interface
  2. Good to hear you got salt side for a foray With regards to why the Yotties would not moor next to you David is overlooking one his well known therom's. They may have in their formative years had an encounter with a Broom owner with an Estuary accent........... many PB's have I must say it is refreshing belonging to a yacht club that openly welcome MOBO's mind you they too shun any one with the merest hint of Armchair Admiralism
  3. Very good Paul and a most thoughtful gesture in offering Simon a 'ride out'
  4. Good to see you getting out Simon, Despite being a shooters nightmare some very nice images there. Sadly as far as Somerleyton Hall goes I often promised myself a walk from the moorings to the hall but never got past the Dukes Head
  5. There are some I took here - http://picasaweb.google.com/perrysaunde ... #slideshow About halfway through. Not the East Coast though
  6. I have to admit to not seeing many dolphins in the Thames over the years. A couple when I was boat fishing on the Southern side is about all; but that was some years ago. As Simon has eluded they are not unusual further north, I wonder if water clarity or suspended mud particles has something to do with the reason they are not too common off the lower East Coast or Thames. I realise they don't need to see to hunt but it does seem odd that so few are seen. This might be of interest Ian http://www.suffolk.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/ ... ressed.pdf There are some around though and you could be lucky, you may remember this story http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/1430483.stm Edited for typo which said usual instead of unusual
  7. Have you looked at Caley? http://www.caleycruisers.com/typlical-itinary-g.asp
  8. Super effort Bruce I think all bases are covered The WE price is way over the top Simon http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/prod28.html Another review: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Revi ... eview.aspx
  9. That Hearse GT might double well as Petrol Bowser I am sure a refueling crew will be on standby Ian - let us know nearer the time when you are planning to be down.
  10. I heard tales of taping the contacts to 'fool' the lens but I personally would not recommend it. The 1.4 x works fine though but will only work down to F4.
  11. Not a plonker at all Mark It is one of the beauty's of this area that issues can be posted up and views given. Those views may not be right but as in this case one just might
  12. It may not be a front/back focus issue Mark which is why I made reference to this. Out of interest when you tested did you put the lens out of focus before allowing the camera to re focus and take your test shot. If you have any concerns do as I did get Canon to check it out under warranty. You will be without your camera for a week but they will thoroughly test it to ensure there are no issues. I got mine back to Elstree but there is an approved Canon repairer in Colchester if you are ever down that way. Colchester Camera Repair Services Professional Camera, Lens, Professional Lens, Flash, Analogue Compact Camera, Digital Compact Camera, Analogue SLR Camera, Digital SLR Camera 6 Kings Court Off Newcomen Way Severalls Business Park Colchester CO4 9RA Tel: 01206 843 322 Fax: 01206 843 323 Web: http://www.camera-repair.co.uk Probably best though if you are still unhappy after testing to see what WE have to say
  13. Hi Mark, It could be front or back focusing although your other images have looked good. When I bought my 1DMk111 I was similarly not over impressed with the focus. However a chat with the Canon Rep at Focus On Imaging revealed the wonders of Micro adjustment. His contention was that the manufacturing tolerances however small between each camera and lens meant you needed to potentially micro adjust. I did have a go but there was a problem with the 1DmK111 and almost at the same time Canon recalled. The best tip the canon rep gave me was to 'pal' up with someone who had a 'pro' body and sign up to Canon CPS. Part of the service is that they will have your camera back within a couple of days. Off ours went and when returned are as I had hoped. There are all sorts of recommendation and ways of micro adjusting - do a Google but the most cost effective way is to use a White Plastic rule angled at 45 degrees and take JPEG images as you adjust from plus to minus and review the results. You should be able to see from this if the camera is back or front focusing and adjust. On mine and I suspect yours is the same you can adjust for each lens. http://www.f64.ro/downloads/Manuale/50D/Manual50D.pdf Page 180 - Custom Function 111 -7 It might not be this at all but worth a look
  14. Hi Jill, The image quality is very good in those shots, plenty of detail and sharp to boot
  15. Goodness me Paul that shows the value of Insurance. Thanks Bruce and I do note your comment that you have not had to claim. One of the things with insurance is how good they are when you actually need to claim; some seem to be competitive but wriggle to not pay out even with a long history of no claims.
  16. Some great bird photos there the Sparrow Hawk was I real turn up, and opportune that your camera was handy
  17. I hope you were not getting greasy fingers on those lenses
  18. Just reviewing my insurance on my camera equipment but it seems my current insurer (household) is now not keen to cover my photography kit as it is above the threshold Bruce (or others) could I ask if you have any recommendations for specialist Photographic Insurers Many thanks
  19. These do both hose and fillers Jim http://www.asap-supplies.com/ No doubt other places but have had good service and if you need to talk to someone they know their stuff.
  20. Very good Mark, I agree with Simon a classic rural shot. The surface weed adds to the interest of the shot and leads the eye to the Swan
  21. Oops cut and pasted the wrong Warbler details Paul, you can see from my post above I knew what I meant You don't see many Willow Warblers in Reeds
  22. Click the link I attached earlier Simon and listen. I am sure a familiar a sound once you hear it normally when moored quietly near reeds of sedges.
