  1. Can we do texts please ( my 1982 boat is still in 1982), I know it might not be very "maritime" but no DSC..yet
  2. Hi I was thinking of taking the 16:00 bridge at L,toft on Sunday and spending the night at Hamilton. That gets that out of the way and I can see what it looks like on Monday ..well thats the plan as at 8:04 today Wayne
  3. Great Idea - I happen to have a rather large anvil
  4. This is probably the next stupid question..but I am not afarid to ask I need to hang my dingy from the Davits. The lift is provided by strapping and I need to attach something to the eyes on the dinghy and also use something on the fixed rings on the davits. I have seen lots of combinations used , rope, wire rope, chain. What works best and is the most user firendly? Wayne p.s - Yes I know - what ever stops it falling off
  5. Hi Adam I will echo David's recommendation. I bought some flares from these guys a couple of weeks ago. Really nice people, very helpful As I have read on the forum before ...all this equipment we buy, hoping to never use See you soon Wayne
  6. Thanks - I thought it would probably be o.k - but I did not want to turn the impellors into a molten blob.
  7. Hi Here's another little worry: I took the strainers out of the weedfilters and noticed that as the bowls are higher than the waterline when I opened the cap and let air in the water level dropped - as it would. before I start the engines do I need to prime the bowl (and put the cap back on quickly) or will the impellor self prime - and be o.k whilst doing so? Thanks in advance Wayne
  8. That look like the stuff - thanks Col rgds Wayne
  9. Hi I want to make some covers for an area in the lazarette. The inside of the hull is painted in a grey coating - it appears to be some sort of expoxy or water resistant paint - can anyone advise what I would need? thanks Wayne
  10. Hi I am looking to get some long rope in case I need to use shore lines when rafted out. Looking on line there is a bewildering array of rope, materials, diameters etc. What is the difference between the materials and what would be recommended? My standard mooring lines are 16mm - I guess the Shore lines need to be the same? thanks Wayne
  11. Thanks for the pictures Luke B...dy hell - missed a fender ..again! regards Wayne
  12. Hi Mark The hour thing was pretty much my experiance too, but once I got fed up waiting for it I left it going and did the air and fuel filters. I think there are two problems with mine: Firstly - the probe that goes down the dipstick hole is a very small dia so it is a bit like sucking treacle through a straw. It looks like it is a piece of outer from a bike brake cable. Just a small increase in dia. and it would still go down the hole but let the oil flow easier. Secondly - because of the shape as it fills up there is less air that you can pump out to create a vacuum so the sucking pressure becomes less - I'm no mathemetican but I would have thought the air voulme on the ball shape left would be some sort of logrimitic value, whereas on the cylinder it would be linear. Bored yet ? regards Wayne
  13. Hi Ian Sorry - I am a bit confused with dates - what day are we going down, or are people making their own way there? We are easy from Sunday thro to Thursday thanks Wayne
  14. Hi Julz and all Yes - I think I would like to echo the comments about the sun. I went out in a tee shirt (with life jacket of course) but forgot the sun cream. The sun did not feel very strong and it was only about an hour and then I put a jacket on when we turned back and into the wind. My arms, head and face are red raw - I wont be forgetting the sun crean and hat again - it hurts The stupid thing was we had all that on board regards Wayne
  15. Hi Ian We had a NE with 2/3 . Tracy did great - she actually enjoyed the sea - Still the lock and bridges that spooks her but she is getting better everytime. Just got to do written papers during the week and I hopefully will gain my ICC and CEVNI from the day as well...which way is Holland It was also a nice surprise to see Luke and Claire in the lock outbound waiting for us. Brigid Mary also went out on the same lift. regards Wayne
  16. Hi all Sea Jem took us to sea today. 11.15 bridge out of Lowestoft with a run down to Southwold waypoint, turn around and back up to Corton in time to turn around for the 14:30 lift. Sea Jem performed impeccably - returning the care we have lavished on her. So she now has a salty bottom - please pass the wet wipes!! regards Wayne
  17. Hi - not yet - I seem to have developed a technique of wiggling the levers whenever I move out of gear I will get around to it though thanks Wayne
  18. Naah... I'm sure the meal will be fine Wayne
  19. As already said ..how romantic.. taking you wife on a cruise for her birthday
  20. Hi all Today I went over to the Marine Safety Centre in Lowestoft to pick up some flares. Whilst over there I met up with the owner, a most wonderful lady who did tell me her age but being a gent I will not repeat. We had a long chat about safety and running a business, and after the week I have had with people (we wont go there!) it was really refreshing to come across such a lovely person. This family business supplies all manner of safety equiment including sales and servicing liferafts and also had a couple of ribs being repaired for leaks. I found them very competitve on price also. So my advice is...go there..buy stuff regards to all Wayne
  21. I seem to be acquiring pieces on my boat not losing them - someone kindly put a little blue fender on my foredeck last week - so if anyone has lost one at WRC it's on Sea Jem and I did not nick it Wayne
  22. Oh..thats handy ... looks like mine too thanks Wayne
  23. Hi Mark As you say another good experiance, your log will soon be full up I know what you mean about the amount of force a blown boat exherts, mind you it's not just the planning boats. I reckon that Sea Jem is comparable to Roscoe in that area, with her sail like propotions rgds Wayne
  24. Hi Barry I dont have rope cutters fitted. See you tomorrow - I will be around best regards
