We worked it out based on weight of the boat, therefore volume of water displaced. I still think this is wrong as I am sure it has more to do with the density of the water. For example a boat will sit higher in salt than fresh water. Should have paid more ayttention at school. Maybe I'll be having a submarine then rgds Wayne

Hi Not being the acedemic type I have a question regarding bouyancy in boats. Now I know there was a greek fellow who worked all this out. If I want to know where the waterline would be in a given hull how do I do that? - I think I am right in that the volume of the displaced water equals the volume of the submerged part. So therefore does it follow that the weight of the object equals the weight of the displaced water in order for the upward force to equal gravity So all I have to do is find out the weight of my boat, equate that to litres of water and the level where that amount of water would be if it were inside the boat would be the waterline? Or do I sink? thanks Wayne

I think the techincal term is "lumpy" ... But to be fair the boat handled it very well indeed and we always felt safe W & T

Hi all This weekend we had an unexpected trip out with Barry and Sharron on Osprey. Barry was doing his powerboat level II and a paasage had been planned for today. Following a kind invite we tagged along for the ride The weather forecast this morning was 3-4, SW slight - not quite sure where that forecast was for though - could'nt have been Lowestoft Suffice to say we had a "interesting" time comparing the virtures of planning hulls Vs semi's as along the way as we found the holes in the water So thats a few more sea miles under our belt. Hi This is gonna be another silly I guess but anyway: Has anyone ever come across any tables or even a rule of thumb regarding average fuel consumption for various engines on boats. Looking around there seems to be lots of choice but the last thing I want to would be to look at a boat that I could not afford to fuel. Is it always the simple case that the bigger the engine the worse the economy or is there a point at which the size of the engines match the weight of the boat in such a way as to give better economy than smaller ones - if you see what I mean? rgds Wayne

Hi Brian It was good to meet you at the weekend. I saw the coolest thing ever last week ..and that was a caravan This guy had a remote control which drove the road wheels and steered the jockey. He and his misses detatched the van from the car and then reversed it into the pitch by remote ..cool Have you got that and can you get one for boats Wayne

Hiya guys I have been trying to find a very small leak in the floor of the dinghy. It seems as there is a very slow leak around the valve which takes a week to deflate. Typically the valves seem not to be the common ones. Can anyone reccommed somewhere that repairs dinghys where I could have the old valve replaced with a newer type. Thanks Wayne

Hi Firstly I think there should be a special board entitled "Numpty Questions" - I would post there a lot If anyone has seen me lower the tender in the water they will immediatley see me raise it again when I realise I have left the transom plug out and it fills with water (Yep - everytime so far) The "valve" thing looks like it should be sort of one way and it does not seem right to rely on a plug fitted on the outside of the boat to stop the water coming in - is that right ? thanks Wayne

Hi Hvaing spent the past couple of weekends crawling about the bilges installing a holding tank I have noticed something that is, to me at least, very odd The bilge is divided up to three individual and sealed sections. The lazarrette , which has a big pump in, the engine bay which has a little 500 gph pump , and here's the strange bit the forward section, the largest of them all and no pump at all. Am I missing something as to why the forward section has no pump ? - the boat is nearly 30 yrs old so I must be missing something else it would have had one fitted before now. rgds Wayne

Hiya all I have now got a nice new electric toilet installed and have built a frame to house the holding tank. This frame is softwood and under a bunk so it will not be seen. I was thinking that I really ought to put sometimething on the wood to protect it so I went down to the local Blakes stockist to get some Bilge paint. Of course I need primer too and the little amount I need will be over £30.00 Has anyone got any suggestions for a cheaper route? regards Wayne
