  1. And I remember when I worked on a boat that was 146m long and the sea was so rough waves wer crashing over the top beam on... ripped a piano from its anchor and it went through a STEEL partition wall... dont ever want to see that again
  2. Ah that's because the boat was soooooo big it made those waves look like mere ripples.... I seem to remember that photo was the 'rough' day and that it was even smoother on the way back!!!!!
  3. Happens alot on longer posts - it will 'time out' and reset... best write it in word then cut and paste it into the box!!
  4. I'm pleased to see that Namaste has sold straight away from NYA without even getting it onto the website (even though the transom door was left open and the cockpit carpet soaked in heavy rain...lucky it lifts out to dry!!!!!).. It's a great boat and must be one of the best Falcons in the country. For anyone that didn't know, It was fully re-upholstered and carpeted and all of its instrumentation was factory fitted to Stelco standards. It had a full new Icom radio fit and antenna as well as a new canopy.. its engines and drive legs were fully serviced too... as well as polished this year...as good as you will get!!!! We will always miss her and I wish the new owners every success and hope they get the enjoyment from her that we have over the last couple of seasons...And maybe we will see them on the forum (If not already here!!) Just for the sake of reminicsing here are a few memories...
  5. And I hope that whoever the boat behind belongs too managed to send them a bill for any damage... Nice piece of negligent handling there!!!!
  6. Excellent story so far john. Please go on. Only slight concern is that riccos let you go with a nod and a wink of tuition as too many people answer that question with a yes .. I guess you are a little wiser ! As for the Market produce well if you read my other posts you will know it doesn't take much to make me feel hungry looking forward to part 2 and the tale of the champion sized bream!
  7. Ah but the way we navigate it'll probably be the 'other' Ipswich spelt N-I-E-U-P-O-R-T or something like that...
  8. Ah yes, I think we may next season at least somewhere in the vacinity as we live in Ipswich anyhoo - Broads moring suits me for this year as Im away from November to May myself Salthouse - yep everyone keeps telling me how good it is - as for the LA - that's a shame - it used to be pretty decent. Must come and say hello to everyone one weekend, especially when the Shotley Navy are venturing up-river!!
  9. OK OK - it looks like once again you have either been to the Last Anchor or Mortimers and now... as always, apart from being in awe of the technical expertise with all the electronic wizardry.... am bloomin hungry.... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By the way is that 'Simply Red' there...have they moved South?
  10. Best man is to PM Dan on the forum as he will probably be able to point you in the right direction
  11. If the lamp is correctly connected this removes the charging device from the circuit, there should be, within the circuit, a 'gate' either electronic or mechanicaly electrical via a relay that says no charge is being produced. This is why, when the engine isn't turning, and the ignition is switched on, that the light illuminates. This will just show very quickly if there is a problem with the circuit per se and will just confirm that the light operates correctly - if it does at this point you will know that it is likely to be an alternator problem, either not correctly terminated or, in the case of the 'multiplug' type a problem with the circuitry within the alternator. This is unlikely to be the case with an alternator with screw gate terminals - especially if you can test the voltage output directly, but will be an easy starting point.... you are then into the methodical fault finding from that point forward.... I agree that there shouldnt be any difference between this and NOT running the engine as the results should be the same, but it sometimes may be all that is required to 're-make' the connection with the alternator ... its an odd thing I know!! Im just transposing vehicle mechanics to boat engines but if anyone knows differently feel free to correct me.. I know our VM's are still taught to disconnect the alternator to check charging issues in this manner
  12. Running an alternator unconnected will indeed damage if it is run up on load - in other words the engine is turning it into its peak charging zone - ie higher revs.. however, this is caused by prolonged use and just for literally a 10 second start i will say that there should be no risk of damage. But as said, if you really want to be sure, just drop the belt off as it literally only needs a few seconds running to check
  13. It is possible that there is a voltage regulator in line somewhere, either accross the rear of the alternator or integrated into a split charger. Just to negate a few other things try this 1. Disconnect the rear of the alternator - if it is a plug in type just pull the plug, if a terminal just disconnect the positive feed. 2. Start the engine - the charge light should now illuminate fully - this will prove the circuit to the light. If it continues to flicker the problem will be further down the line.Stop the engine and continue to diagnose 3. I would then start from the panel end checking the circuit as you go. Try finding the feed to this light and power it directly - again, should glow correctly - if not, then you know the problem is there (Just use a small power source, just in case) 4. trace the wiring back, remembering to disconnect it from the split charger, or voltage regulator first and then check again... this will prove the wiring back - DO NOT REVERSE DC FEED either the regulator or split charger otherwise there may be rev erse polarity protection diodes inside that may blow 5. work your way through the system back toward the alternator testing as you go and you should locate the problem.. 6. Ironically it may just be the connection to the alternator.. if so at least you will know your charging system back to fron when you have finished!!!
  14. Yep as long as my holiday plans dont interfere we will be there as Annie says
  15. And whatever the american rider cup team bought. Don't buy the same. Good watching this evening though
  16. Ahh good to have you back and you see, a bit of stirring things up certainly gets results... Im going to get onto doing a little research on the aeroplane - I have my suspicions that I know what it is but will double check when Im home at the weekend - I suspect it came from Martlesham and is a variation on another model... will have a good peep for you!!!!
  17. Hmm. Breydon again. Watching all those river boats bobbing around in those awesome 'flap down' washes. Awesome
  18. I worked on tor Brit and scan from 1988 to 1990 just under three years all in all. Many fon memories
  19. Another Kate O'Mara special - filmed of course on the Dana Anglia (DFDS - Scandinavian Seaways) - Oddly when I was working on the Tor Scandinavia and the Tor Britania I travelled on the 'Anglia quite alot and there were still many fixed cable points for camera power and sound patched out all around the ship! Oddly the opening credits showed shots of the Tor Scandinavia and some of the old interior shots on the early programs were shot on the Britannia when it sailed under the company flag of 'Tor Line' from felixstowe - brings back alot of memories for me!
  20. So - Am thinking that the Reedcutters could be a good move for this weekend if anyone is up for it? sortof not too far for anyone? Any suggestions or takers (Yep saw that you were free Mark - thats at least three of us I think) Food there is very good and saturday nights are often fun there!!??
  21. Can I suggest the Reedcutters next weekend ?
