  1. The Broads Authority is unquestionably a member of the National Parks family, it has also elected to 'rebrand' the Broads as a National Park. That being an unarguable fact then surely it is a reasonable and moral requirement that the Authority abides by the rules of the National Parks? https://www.facebook.com/groups/1493168170964436/permalink/1546302932317626/ Governance at the Authority, once again, is open to further question.
  2. Clive's sailing boat will be instantly recognisable this summer, flying the burgees and flags of parenthood from the shroads. Baby-grows, bibs, vests etc. rather than the more usual house and protest flags. His posh new carbon mast draped in drying baby linen, a nappy at the masthead!
  3. Oulton Broad is not the honeypot that it once was. The riverbus struggles & the day-boats have been neglected. Unfortunately parking restrictions at Oulton Broad have hardly helped the village. The local gift shop has seriously downsized and the coach park is a long walk from the moorings. All a great shame as Oulton Broad has so much to offer with some really good eateries and excellent watering holes. http://www.norfolk-broads-review.co.uk/oulton-broad/ http://www.oulton-broad.com/
  4. They have certainly been neglected over the last few years. There are two operators down there, one does do some work on his boats, the other rather less. Having towed one or two back to the yacht station, or passed on messages to the operators, I do know that things aren't what they used to be. At one time a fellow called Nigel ran the bigger fleet & they were maintained to perfection but unfortunately ill health forced him to sell up. As has been said several are out of the water at the moment so hopefully the corner has been turned.
  5. So Mrs R gave birth to a 45 footer, I thought the babe was a seven pounder!
  6. Groan up is good, very groan up suggests onset decrepitude!
  7. Naa, the Freudian slip has a wherry hauled up on it right now, the old girl's having tingles on her bottom.
  8. Found this on e-bay, the lower left hand picture, presumably of a sailing boat on Breydon, captures the 'fun' of crossing in a breeze, especially when the wind is against tide!!
  9. I hear through the grapevine that one of our very popular, local members has a new baby! You know who you are, congratulations!
  10. Time for a grown! The The unarguable fact is that the present Broads Plan states quite clearly that the Broads Authority will continue to pursue its ambition to be a national park. It has now decided to drop that ambition, despite it being a formally adopted policy. Well, so what, you might ask. Quite simply, and it's clear enough, the Authority is not adverse to forgetting previous policy when it suits its agenda. It's done it before, it's doing it again, what's to say that it won't in the future?
  11. Hardly a breath of wind this morning, not a cloud in sight, doves cooing, my chickens have started laying in earnest after their winter break, the sun is shining, a perfect morning! Unfortunately I have to go to Norwich today otherwise I'd be out on the water. Have we turned the corner, is winter behind us? More like April than February at this moment. Good to be on the Broads!!
  12. Strowager, I won't say what I think of you or such comments but there is positively NO anti BA movement, however there are people who become concerned when the BA get it wrong, such as over the National Park rebranding. That you fail to differentiate between bashing and rightful concern is your shortcoming, not mine.
  13. I have one of his paintings, one that I particularly enjoy, it's an evocative sailing picture.
  14. For heavens sakes, Strowger, it is the BA executive that has put itself in 'a bad light', that has earned itself the distrust that many bestow upon it. Okay, so myself and others have highlighted their shortcomings but there has never been smoke without fire. I respectively suggest that the phrase "BA Bashing" was coined by those who have closed their eyes to those shortcomings. Do you really think that the BA is above criticism? Do you really think that its customers, such as myself, should ignore those shortcomings? Go back to the Broads Act, if the petitioners had not got off their backsides, and at their own expense gone to London, then we would have had insidious and excessive controls in place. You continually 'bash the bashers', heavens knows why although I could make a few suggestions that you probably wouldn't like. I appreciate that this posting is not in the NBN tradition but Strowager's constant sniping is becoming tedious.
  15. Bob, there have been well documented incidents at Norwich not least a member of the Broads Authority navigation committee being cast off! Mind you, that event did result in an increase of security at the Yacht Station. As it is, at Norwich I don't suppose you'll come to much harm if you you did drift off. Personally I like Norwich and have never had a problem.
  16. The letter is a response to a local MP's question to DEFRA. I don't know what questions were asked other than asking for DEFRA's confirmation of its stance on the legal position. 'What is Defra's opinion on the new state of affairs?' A question that needs to be asked.
  17. The formal response: It's there in black and white, surely no one can agree with a Chief Executive that promotes the lie? Time to sign?
  18. A recent and interesting letter from Mss E Truss M.P. @ DEFRA. No evidence that the BA were given permission for rebranding by DEFRA, rather that DEFRA were leaving that decision to the BA itself.
  19. Shades of Clive's new rig?
  20. Poles, as with sails dangling from them?
  21. http://www.mustardtv.co.uk/browse/returning-to-the-river-vision-to-unlock-potential-of-norwichs-neglected-wensum/
  22. Maybe, Strowager, there are people who clearly know more about the subject than you do and people who know and realise just how the BA's executive works. However you look at it, a man that promotes a lie and refuses to take several ministerial no's, including a very recent one, for an answer is . . . . . . . . . well, I'll leave that for you to decide. Purely my opinion, of course, and no, I'm not going to enter into further argument.
  23. Agreed, long overdue. Does anyone actually know where the Broads Authority's boundary is? I know that the navigation ends just beyond the Yacht Station, is that the limit of their responsibility?
