  1. Either that, Strow, or the Speakers Corner regulars migrated en masse to FaceBook
  2. Batrabill, sorry and all that, but whilst I'm happy to debate, and even disagree, I'm not in the mood to pointlessly argue.
  3. I've said it before, true story is this, but I have a public footpath that in part runs over my land. Over the winter I have been rebuilding my shed which has resulted in a large pile of gash timber. On Wednesday I had a pretty major bonfire in my garden. Was stood there watching it burn when an old boy, walking down the path, stopped and asked if I had permission, now that we are in a National Park? He went on to suggest that the good Doctor needed his 'nuts nipped', his expression, not mine. I didn't lead him on, no need to, there was an old bloke, Norfolk judging by the accent, who clearly saw wrong in what had happened. Somehow I don't think that he's a facebook user or member of a Broads forum so I doubt that he'll be signing up, but very clearly he was much less than happy with the National Park decision. Might only be 307 signatures to date, but how many folk has the petition missed? We shall never know but I suspect that it is quite a few.
  4. BA Bashers, or concerned members of the Broads community?
  5. A Hardy cane rod is best left in its original condition and then put on E-Bay where it will probably get absolutely silly money which will allow you to buy a really good, top of the range modern rod. Hardy is to fishing rods what Rolls Royce is to cars.
  6. 1950 is probably a good guess although it could be as late as the 1960's. Ten foot long suggests that it is not a float rod so I'd guess either a ledger rod or a salmon type spinning rod. If it is a ledger rod then the 1960's is probably more likely. If it is a ledger rod then you got a good buy, in my opinion. Just a thought, it might also be a carp rod in which case it'll probably be close whipped and worth about a ton in good nick.
  7. Only 11 out of 21, amazing, a majority of just 1.
  8. Add to the above: All guess work but I was once told by the BA CEO that boaters and anglers would eventually have to accept the loss of some waters.
  9. Alan, I'm reasonably sure that there is no way that will we be banned from the main navigation channels but I can see us barred from waters outside those channels, as happened at Horsey Mere for example. Part of the joy of boating is the ability to roam around the margins of a broad for example. Others of us enjoy taking our boats up minor rivers, to Geldeston for example, might that beat risk? The other risk is that waters might be allowed to silt up as a means of excluding boats, and saving on dredging costs, the excuse being that it is in the interests of conservation.
  10. Geoff and Wendy, it needn't be, and if it is we shall all be the poorer for it, of that I'm sure. Paladine, especially, has presented the case for the prosecution so to speak, it is hard to argue with his very sound input, not that that is dissuading one tenacious gentleman! However and whatever, what threatens to be musn't be, and especially not be the end of it, for the sake of the Broads.
  11. Not my target, Strow, but sufficient, in my opinion, to show that there is a relevant degree of concern.
  12. We have to believe Grace, woman with whip says so!
  13. Now over 300 signatures, I can now see it reaching 500 which I think is worthwhile.
  14. The helms-person should count themselves lucky that a Ranger wasn't nearby!
  15. Perhaps many previously unknown do populate the forums, even as spectators, but under various 'handles'. I know of one face-book character who uses three different names under which he trawls the forums.
  16. Ohhhh, Grace, you little devil you! Iain, who mentioned bondage? By the way, I never had a blond girl-friend!
  17. Believe it or not, Strow, I was once a staunch supporter of the the Authority. I was just so proud to become a member of the Navigation Committee. However, as I witnessed the inner workings and listened to the executive that pride and support soon started to dwindle, regretfully hitting rock bottom with the shenanigans surrounding the Broads Bill consultation. This latest NP saga has done absolutely nothing to make me reconsider my opinion.
  18. Essential equipment for a fun loving blond?
  19. Just a thought, how much earlier, by going 50% above the speed limit, did the boat arrive at the bridge? Two minutes, ten minutes? Even at ten minutes then how much would the tide have risen in that time? 'There is no fool like an old fool' is a saying that springs to mind on this one, he should have known better. The article reads that the bloke was warned but still carried on, no excuse.
  20. Grace, you'll be able to crack that whip of yours as you urge the paddles on!
  21. We criticise the BA if they don't, we criticise them if they do! In this case playing the OAP card by Archant is a bit pathetic, the bloke was speeding, the bloke was making excessive wash, age had nothing to do with it. WELL DONE BA.
  22. Dan, remember, I was in the trade at that time. By the 'high street', Hoseason's term at that time, I don't necessarily mean the use of travel agents but rather their targeting of different customer groups. Mind you, there were other factors, not least the development into residential of many boatyard sites.
  23. Norfolk was never the same after the big, London breweries, Watneys in particular, moved in. Their 'Red' was worse than ullage, urghh!
