  1. It is all in good humour, good on Clive for taking Eddy's outpourings in this manner. People speak highly of Clive, I do the same of 'Eddy'. Pity that one man's ridiculous game is giving rise to this difference of opinion.
  2. Has anyone actually decried the publication? Apparently it doesn't cover the Southern Rivers as well as it might but that aside it serves an admirable purpose and Clive can take credit for that. The reality of it is that that many people, and that includes people outside this forum, are disappointed that the title, not the content, panders to one man's personal ambition. I agree that it is a pity that this thread has become entangled with Broads politics but then it's a pity that those politics became embroiled in Clive's well intended guide.
  3. If all those people (and the brochure is aimed mainly at tourists) won't give a damn about the name, why the hell has so much time, effort and money been spent on the renaming? Exactly and precisely. Just leaves us wondering why, and pondering a few probable answers.
  4. Whilst I find the pesky pike's ruminations amusing, and apt, I just hope that no one takes offence.
  5. Seems that a well known boatyard, who shall remain unrecognised, is to rebrand itself as The Broads Authority! Seems that 'Eddy' of the Waveney River Centre has time on his hands, I like his humour! http://www.broadsnationalpike.com/2015/03/broads-hireboat-operator-to-re-brand-as.html
  6. Or Norfolk Knights! I've been at that local water that I shouldn't drink!
  7. Just a pity that there isn't actually a Broads National Park to eat in!
  8. No mention of the Broads National Park!!!! Lot of mention that ALL the tolls income is spent on navigation. Now, that is a lie, a BIG one this time! It is a FACT that over forty percent of tolls income goes towards general overheads. This fact is in the public domain.

  10. I can think of one or two yards on the Northern Rivers that show a very worthwhile return . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Hire yards on Oulton Broad that I can remember from the 50's, 60's and 70's: Trumans, Richardsons, Collins, Robinsons, Fowlers, Little Ships, Austin Marine, Hoseasons, O'Hefts, Collens, Darby's, Orient Cruisers, Knights Creek, Bowel & Harpers, Newsons, Arnot Fowlers, Broadsway Cruisers, Top-Craft, Hamptons, Fletchers & Clevelands.
  11. If you own her I have one of your fenders. Fished a couple out today, one with you boat's name on it.
  12. Probably why the price is so low!
  13. Mandy, lots of raw food available, so long as you dog can run or swim fast enough!
  14. The article mentions the Broads
  15. Take care! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/science/science-news/11438278/British-lakes-see-huge-rise-in-toxic-algae-linked-to-Alzheimers.html Might be too late for some of us . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
  16. I once photographed Brian's children, thought that you might just like to know that! He spoke very good English.

  18. Matt, I understand that it is DEFRA's code of ethics rather than that of the OCPA that is relevant in this case. Had the BA not chosen to treat one committee member differently to two others then I doubt that this topic would have reared its head.
  19. Perhaps too much information would be handy for the light fingered fraternity?
  20. But this subject hasn't been raised before! Let's be having you, you know that you want to
  21. Mat, have raised your point re the OCPA on FaceBook. Seems to me to be entirely relevant.
  22. John, lucky you! Back from the pub, general consensus within our small group was that the relevant rule should apply equally, one way or the other, across the board. John, I haven't looked but I believe that Paladine has raised this very topic in the 'other place' but under what heading I don't know. Just waiting for my regular sparring partner to wade in, expect he's out polishing his stern-drives!!
  23. Matt, most certainly NOT a witch hunt as far as I'm concerned, more a wish that the Authority accepts a moral requirement to abide by the current rules. I am aware that the Authority tends to interpret and sometimes bend the rules to suit its agenda but in this case the rules are clear, being a member of the National Parks family does have its responsibilities, in my view the Authority shouldn't pick and choose which rules to apply, or how to apply them, nor should it choose whom to apply them to. There is no question that at least two other committee members were required to resign under these rules. What also has to be considered is that the 'sitting member' has long been immensely supportive of the Executive whilst the two that were required to resign were clearly not adverse to asking less than helpful questions. I used the term 'ethics' and I stand by that. It is a matter of ethics, no question in my mind as to that. The Authority expects us to abide by the current rules, it should do the same. I can't choose to ignore the 1986 Broads Act simply because the previous Port & Haven bylaws suited me better. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. SOS appointment or not, it is surely good governance on behalf of the Authority to ensure that such matters are both squeaky clean and above board? A moral and ethical responsibility, if nothing else. I'm not a lawyer, I'll leave the legal niceties to those who understand such things.
