  1. Of course it is, all the best people live here!
  2. What a strange, coincidental world. My daughter, also a Sarah Waller, was diagnosed with a form of cancer which triggered meningitis when she was twelve. How do parents cope? They do, because of love and because they have no other option. My Sarah survived, thank God. At its height the surgeons came to us and told us that all we had left was prayer. We asked every church we knew to pray for her, we still treasure a letter from the Pope, even though we are not Catholics.
  3. The raft race was fun, the music generally good, the speedboats were wet, the fireworks were cancelled. I met John, seemed a nice man, not a bad day!
  4. My thoughts exactly, a very regrettable sign of the times. I can quite understand the BA not wishing to become involved, corporate liability has to be considered.

  6. My thoughts exactly but this issue goes back several years to when the BA decided to become involved when it was decided to improve the footpaths and bridge, not a universally popular decision. Anyway, I e-mailed a good friend who has been involved with Geldeston over many years and who has a deep, personal interest in the area. This his his response, which I think is absolutely fair: 'My concern a few years back was the totally unnecessary new bridge, fencing, fishing platform and mooring. That was all BA work. This problem, as I understand it, is the riparian owner who does not want hikers walking to Beccles along his bank (in truth I think that's impossible). Not directly BA's fault but someone should have negotiated with him. No idea about fencing as there was none when I was there a few weeks back'. The footpath issue is an interesting one, and having a public footpath over my land I do have some interest in this issue. I understand that the walk from Beccles to Geldeston is very popular and that it is also a part of the Angles Way, as is the footpath outside my front door. In that case it's surely down to the local county councils.
  7. have been doing some googling and came up with this: http://www.broadly-speaking.co.uk/forum/topic821 Two pages of anti BA vitriol, some of which might be helpful, then again it might not! One thing is certain, it's all been rumbling on for a long time.
  8. Marshman is right, it's been excellent sailing today. I have e-mailed some folk who probably do know the answer regarding the mooring. The Authority might own land there, I believe that they inherited some from the National Rivers Authority.
  9. June, next time that you are on the Norwich river give the Surlingham Ferry boozer a try, excellent.
  10. There has been a string of less than great landlords over recent years. The outgoing tenants had one hell of a mountain to climb. They did try but they were up against it, in my opinion.
  11. John, "We'll all" just depends on how many NBN members & their families will be there tomorrow when the heavens open! Just hope that you have a plenty of tea-bags ready.
  12. Spider, I do know that this has been rumbling on a for several months with various rumours flying around. My friend arrived there yesterday to find the mooring closed.
  13. Just a rumour, John, but I had heard that it is for sale. Personally, as much as I like dogs, I never took to that famously aromatic hound and generally headed up to the Ferry Inn. De-dogged then I reckon the Nelson could be a darn good pub.
  14. Just to confirm: http://www.accuweather.com/en/gb/lowestoft/nr32-1/hourly-weather-forecast/330939?hour=33 Great shame for the organisers of Oulton Broad's gala day and traditionally excellent firework display. We'll all have to take shelter in John's cabin!
  15. 17 m.p.h. winds? No such thing as bad weather, you just need suitable foul weather clothing!
  16. Liberty, if you go to the iconic Geldeston Locks you will find a fork in the river just before the pub. The right hand one leads to the 24hr mooring and pub, the left hand fork leads to the Shipmeadow bank of the River Waveney. It has been a popular, informal mooring for generations.
  17. Good news about June's Hubby, sad news about the pub.
  18. I was recommended Malwarebytes by a Cantley based computer service company, a business that I trust implicitly. If it's good enough for them then it good enough for me. Plus it appears to work!
  19. Bad news, no, June's loved one has not lost his hoof, rather that I hear that the pub is to close, seems that the tenants have had enough after just one summer. Can't confirm it but doubtless someone will soon. If a pub couldn't make it this past summer then I doubt that it ever will.
  20. I have just read that we have lost the moorings at Shipmeadow. Found this comment on Facebook, posted by a friend of mine. Shipmeadow mooring has gone, no way can you moor a boat by the meadow now it's all been destroyed by our beloved navigation authority. Access denied, trespassers will be persecuted, fence erected. Damnable shame. Not only a great shame for us punters but also for the tenants of The Locks. This loss will really put the pressure on the remaining moorings and surely visitor numbers to the Pub. Sheer bloody mindedness in my opinion. Whether down to landowner or Authority, or both, I don't know. Either way, a great loss.
  21. Just 'closing for today' or 'closing today for ever'? P.S. Hope his hoof is okay. P.P.S. Hope the pub is still open, apart from when it's closed.
  22. No need, I have built in insulation!
  23. Marina, you and your crew should invest in one of these each: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ocean-Safety-Thermal-Protective-Aid-TPA-for-Sea-Survival-MCA-Approved-Suit-Style-/380659293562?pt=UK_Sporting_Goods_Sailing&hash=item58a10fdd7a
  24. Simon, we don't have heating so don't notice the difference ! Seriously though, we have roomy sleeping bags, fleece sleeping bag liners, fleece hats and fleece booties, snug as a bug in a rug! Bit cold going to the privy though! First one up in the morning turns the cooker on, soon warms things up. If it gets really cold then we even close the cabin door . . . . . . . . . .
  25. Any of you hire this one when she was new? http://www.marthamboats.com/sailing-yachts-for-hire/zoe.html
