  1. Those were the days when the hire fleets ruled the roost and a great time was to be had by all, not least by us young bloods of the time.
  2. I always regarded Jason's involvement with forums as extremely fair to all parties involved. A good relationship between commercial interests and forums can develop, Jason's is just one such business. However, largely down to hard work and commitment, Jason's deserved success and subsequent popularity appears to have upset one or two.
  3. Re the cost of moorings, just a slight deviation from the original topic, they must be prohibitive for so many. When I look around at the unused marsh around the Broads, although I can guess the answer, I do wonder why just one or two can't be flooded so as to provide budget moorings for budget boaters. In a nutshell why own a boat if you are not going to use it? Mind you, think of the congestion if they did!
  4. But think of the rampaging polyestermite having been left to their own devices, locked aboard with no other food! External cleaning might be easy, and successful, but I dread to think what they'll be like down below, especially if there has been a lack of ventilation. Don't know that engines or upholstery thrive on neglect. Am afraid that there are green woodies too, even more sad. It's not so much the green that I find sad, more that owners haven't, for whatever reason, been able to use their boats.
  5. Several of us have felt compelled to defend ourselves, sad. Griff, BA & the Griff-Tile van would look the woof-woof's wotsits with NBN house flag style 'go faster' stripes in place of all that bland white or green, don't you think?
  6. Another 'green boat', moored not far from the other one. Presumably tolls, moorings etc have been paid yet, once again, here is another sadly neglected boat: What a waste, nightmare cleaning job too. Just hope that the owners don't just turn up hoping to find her as they left her!
  7. Isn't it sad when you see boats like this? End of the season and probably unused, so sad. It seems that Beccles has a large number of 'green boats'. It's been a good summer weather wise. Can't help but wonder at the stories behind the owner's desertion.
  8. Charlie, as you sit, contemplating such matters that need contemplating, on the 1930's vintage porcelain, you will be where other famous posteriors have sat, passing the time of the day. If you look carefully you can still see the scorch marks left by Ike's cigar butt-end as he tore of another strip of WD grade Bronco.
  9. Hi Ron, just enjoy and then tell us about your next holiday.
  10. Got to say it, the grockles on the Southern rivers trip boats generally look happy, either instigating or returning waves. Coincidentally the only boat crew that didn't return our waves and looked thoroughly miserable down this way over the weekend was flying a well known North rivers yacht club burgee. A friendlier place is 'down South'.
  11. John, you are much too kind. I'm especially looking forward to the further wanderings of London Rascal and the ramblings of everyone else.
  12. Alan, unlike you I welcome various Broads forums, I can then support the one of my choice.
  13. Thank you, NBN, for welcoming myself and other refugees from that other place. I have just taken a peep at a thread regarding those of us who moved over, the genie is well and truly out of the bottle now. NBN, thank you for being as you are, a far more pleasant place to be.
  14. Woof-woofs are just so cute! Met these whipper-snappers being wheeled around in a pram by their aged owner at the Gt Yarmouth Maritime Festival on Saturday:
  15. Got to say, that like Jason, I did wonder about jumping ship, so to speak. I had always avoided this forum for reasons that are now completely irrelevant so making the move did take a bit of an effort on my part. However I am glad that I did and can thoroughly recommend the NBN to both Jason & to all others who might be hesitating. To absent friends.
  16. Wotcha Paul! How yer diddlin then?
  17. Perhaps I should have written 'Generally such lovely people'. Got to say that in over 60 years on the Broads I have met quite a few Yorkshire folk, and I have met quite a few boatyard staff who think the same way, and it does seem that Yorkshire folk aren't such a bad lot, generally. Samuel, I am genuinely sorry if you find that in anyway offensive for that was not intended.
  18. Wherries used to go though the Gt Yarmouth bridges stern first as a matter of course, dropping down with the tide. They did this by dragging chains rather than mudwights over the bow so as to slow the wherry down which provided steerage as the tide flowed past the rudder.
  19. I rather suspect, Iain, that you have learned by the very good example set by some and the unfortunate errors made by others. What pleases me is that some folk, ones that I have long regarded as friends that I have never met, are also popping up over here, nice one.
  20. Go in and moor up front first? You can either climb in and out over the bow, or turn her around by hand. I know it says 'stern mooring' but sometime the wrong way is the best way!
  21. There is no question in my mind, a forum is only as good as the moderators behind it. Bit like a pub really, only as good as the landlord.
  22. Liz, are you in a position to pass on our regards to Jason? I know that he uses Facebook but personally I'm not a great fan of FB.
  23. Grace, Jason manages a boatyard at Ludham Bridge, does a darn good job too. If your bottom needs TLC or your topsides needs attention then Jason is the man for the job.
  24. No, not me. By the way my reference was the picture in the article, look under the cowboy hat. Unless someone knows better, and lots of folk generally do, I reckon the article was one of the more muddled ones of recent times by the EDP.
  25. Hi, yes, great welcome to be had over here, just need to spread the word. Re Jason of Ludham Bridge Boatyard, ace bloke plus.
