  1. I've had several radios succumb to the damp and humidity of a boat but never had a problem with a TV but then I never leave that onboard!
  2. There is both Avenue Angling and Angling Direct, Beccles is good to us anglers. If Tilney's gun shop is open, fairly rare, pop in and meet Mr Tilney, star of Antiques Road Show, nice bloke. Very keen on muzzle loaders so just a bit before 'Griff's' time.
  3. I don't think that it was the Man from Delmonte, however I could hazard am alternative suggestion!!
  4. I know it only to well! My wife is also seriously into needlecraft.
  5. Beccles even has a Lidl and a Wetherspoons, as well as three very fine, independent butchers, Seppings being my first choice: https://www.wjseppings.com/
  6. Nationals moving in can be positive. Take Beccles for example, Tesco moved in, complete with vast carpark bang in the middle of the town, hey presto, FREE parking and all the surrounding independents are thriving. People now shop in Beccles from miles around, easy access, unlike nearby Lowestoft. It's worked for Beccles. Plenty of hairdressers too but thank goodness no John Lewis or Waitrose. Beccles, at the moment, has got it about right. Mind you, it's not a village.
  7. If its a rum looking old codger then it probably will be him!
  8. In Lowestoft it's getting worse, all the 'quacks' probably moving to Blofield. My local surgery has lost five doctors for whatever reason.
  9. My thoughts entirely. As for stairs I can manage, just not in leaps and bounds. Hips not a problem, yet, just my legs, damn things! I've gone well beyond twinges, as has also happened to a close friend. He's now had three cancellations for treatment and uses either a frame or two sticks, I just need one. As for doctor's appointments . . . . . . . don't get me started! First of all you have to get past the receptionist, ohhh dear!
  10. I don't anticipate moving to Norfolk, don't think I could cope with a move of half a mile! That aside, a wise choice by 'Q'. I know of my own experience, I had planned to do so much when I retired but what I had not planned for was failing health, in a nutshell, getting old. As my doctor once asked me, 'what else did I expect'? Well, not being stick dependent by my mid seventies was one thing that i hadn't bargained for! Not only my health but that of those around me. Firstly my mum in law, I won't go into details but basically my wife and I lost four years of our retirement in caring for her. I don't begrudge that for one minute but it was unplanned for. Going off for a week on the boat became a memory. We then had a years freedom before my wife developed problems, boating was down to day trips. Then along came Covid! Retirement has sadly not gone to plan! We've stayed put, glad that we did apart from the garden, that is proving a bit of a chore now.
  11. Seemingly three shearline 'Chablis', lovely boat by the way. http://www.broads.org.uk/wiki2018/index.php?title=Boats_matching_search&RegNo=&bname=chablis&aand=EQ&tand=ST&quicksearch= and http://www.broads.org.uk/wiki2018/index.php?title=Photograph_Gallery&classname=Sheerline_1070&returnpath=Boat_Details&returnpage=7333&style=Sl35C
  12. I'm sure that there are, I do know that there is a very good one based in Beccles but that is in Suffolk, just.
  13. I just hope that they all get the Broads bug but nevertheless I'm glad that I am down South, at least whilst they are learning. Perhaps newcomers should be advised to stay clear of Gt Yarmouth.
  14. Come off it, Andy, there's Beeston Hills near Cromer, surely that's enough for you? As for embryo mountains, plenty of mole hills to work with.
  15. How often have I heard that lament! Folk who have moved up here during the summer months with no comprehension of the winters, or the lack of shops and friends and family. I have watched programs on TV featuring people who want to escape to the country, looking for a house where they can entertain and have room for family to come and stay. That might work with the present interest in staycations but I suspect that that bubble will eventually burst. Even family drifts apart. The saying goes that folk, and some animals, go home to die, only for many ex-city incomers that has become impossible. They can no longer afford to go 'home.' Moving into the country can be lonely. Granted that little groups of ex Essex folk, for example, eventually form but whilst some work well, even attracting the natives, others just become peopled by folk who lament their old homes, for whom the Alf Garnett song book is their mantra, they never cease to be a Londoner from dear old London Town. For many the move is a great success, for some it clearly isn't.
  16. Folk who can leave the city behind should have no problem in moving to Norfolk.
  17. Mustn't forget MAFI's, stink-boats, pop-pops, fart boats, hullabaloos, gin-palaces and bling boats!
  18. Too busy dodging numpty motor boats to notice the scenery!
  19. Don't know if they have a fizzy drink bar there though!
  20. Especially as you approach Breydon Water, miles of uninterrupted reedbeds, unless you are sat on the roof!!
  21. Probably be easier to name the pubs without beer gardens. As far as the Waveney & Oulton Broad is concerned I really can't think of any without, lucky me!
  22. Go see the harbour master at the yacht station, he'll advise you. Best tell him what type of boat that you are buying because Beccles bridges are a factor of some relevance. If you want a mooring at Beccles then I would advise that you get a shunt on. You could consider Tingdene at Oulton Broad but rumour has it that some right dodgy characters are heading that way.
  23. Jean, since the Government wrote the rules I'm inclined to believe that it is they that are right.
