They are! Just that they go to great lengths to hide the fact! Jayfire allegedly relies on Viagra washed down with a half pint of lager-shandy and has porridge for his morning oats!
Anglers, for example, would have a right to elect their representative. The present system of 'approved' yes people being 'placed' onto committees has to stop.
The BA, in its present guise, has a history of contradiction in regard to the government, witness its NP campaign. As for rehashing information, once again there is history. Half truths and misleading statements are something of a specialty. I take it that you have read all the squit that came with this year's toll demand? Perhaps worthy of a thread of its own.
It's a thought, Chris, but I am not convinced. At the moment there really is nothing notably 'new' about the Authority. Dr Packman will eventually retire, even if he is finally carried out in a box! Hopefully a new broom will then make a clean sweep, then perhaps we will see a 'new' Broads Authority, one that incorporates the best of the old whilst returning control of the Broads to its members and introduces some form of democracy for its stakeholders.
Strangely enough I thought I head one yesterday! Naa, unlikely, late April, early May more like!
By the way, MM, I live opposite Carlton Marshes, lucky me. From my bedroom I look down on the reserve, excellent vantage point, when there is no mist like what there is right now!
My understanding that the toll was only payable on boats that went out on hire. Hire boats, as opposed to private ones, that were stored afloat were not required to be tolled.
I have noticed elsewhere that the BA is fondly referred to as the NBA and has been for quite a while. Doesn't tell me why though!
Since I refuse point blank to pay my toll until at least five minutes before I cast off for the new season means that I haven't seen the N added to BA. My only recent correspondence has been with the planning department and perhaps the 'New' hasn't permeated that particular office yet.
What challenge? My first memory of life is of being lodged amongst the sail bags, fenders and ropes in the forepeak so I could roll around without hurting myself!
Maybe they are taking a leaf out of the double glazing industry's methodology handbook, namely double/treble the prices before offering unbelievable discounts but only if you sign up there and then!
One of my daughters drinks there but it's never appealed to me. The Flying Dutchman & The Triangle for me, thankfully both seem to be keeping their heads above water.
