  1. I hope most fervently that the the BA are promoting & protecting the interests of boaters. Marshman's plea is reasonable and should be upheld. Beyond that perhaps boats that provide exercise or sport should be allowed to navigate the broads, e,g. wind or muscle powered and with the proviso that they are not used to provide accommodation. If that fails to create any problems then perhaps phase in open dayboats generally.
  2. Problem solved, I'm rebranding my boats as vehicles for travelling purposes you'll understand.
  3. A RADAR key is invaluable out of season in Norfolk but at the moment even disabled toilets are closed. A bucket in the boot perhaps!
  4. That really fills me with confidence! Wouldn't mind being a fly on the wall, as the saying goes. I wonder what tomorrow will bring? An increase in the sale of paddle-boards?
  5. Corribees are surprisingly good sailing boats, probably one of the better small cruisers. Pretty boats too: https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/corribee-mkiii
  6. Mention of Water Sports in this article: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51506729?xtor=ES-208-[31956_News_NLB_Wk20_Mon_11_May_ACT]-20200511-[bbcnews_exercise_newsuk_exercise]
  7. From the Broads Authority: "The Authority understands that the Prime Minister's public address yesterday evening was not entirely clear regarding access to the Broads (and nearby areas) for boating and recreational purposes. The Government has promised to provide additional guidance today at 2pm. We are asking individuals to please await a further update from the Authority this afternoon if they have any questions. Thank you."
  8. Entirely true. My feeling is that the clue could be in the term 'watersport' and primarily in 'sport'. Very clearly angling is now permitted, provided social distancing is maintained. I see no reason why that should not apply to boating as in watersports. We can only hope!
  9. Misquoting, maybe, but the culture secretary was clearly quoted as including watersports. I have to say that I think that that quote was probably accurate, at the time, but was subsequently modified when it was pointed out that it would create policing problems on our various inland waterways where messing around in a boat does not necessarily constitute as being a watersport.
  10. According to last night's BBC statement then yes, quite clearly you could. Since then that statement has been modified, now it's only a maybe! Confusion reigns.
  11. The original BBC report clearly stated the following: 'The BBC understands that the changes in the guidelines will mean two friends would be able to sit more than two metres apart in a park, and also that sports like golf, tennis, fishing and outdoor watersports will now be possible for people in the same household.' I note that that has now been modified to exclude watersports, what's going on, who is behind that edit, who alerted the BBC to that one? From the BBC this morning: And Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden says sports like golf, basketball, tennis and fishing will now be possible for people in the same household. Someone been on the phone?
  12. I went to Donny, just once. Strikes me that the Broads has to be God's chosen holiday destination !
  13. Borris Says We Can Go Boating!! - (nice joke not sure he did edited by Maxwellian) Maxwellian, perhaps you will be good enough to re-edit the title. No joke, I am referring to the news as reported and broadcast by the BBC, that includes a statement made by Boris himself this evening. Quite clearly we can go boating provided it is ONLY with family members and that social distancing is maintained. No ifs, no buts, we can go boating, I suspect with the proviso that we meet travel restrictions etc.
  14. I read it on the BBC News Channel this evening although it now appears to have become buried among all the other comment. It was conditional, as you might expect, certainly not a free for all but was clearly a limited consent.
  15. Some of us can! Boris also said that we can buy and sell houses, quick, move down here!
  16. And we know that we trust both the BBC and a politician! I can see lots of wives going sailing this weekend, even if they don't want to!
  17. If we take the Olympics as an example then a number of water-sports are just that, sports. Sailing has long been an Olympic sport. Perhaps like born-again cyclists we shall now have a rash of born-again dinghy sailors!
  18. Not sure that that is for the BA to interpret although they might choose to advise. Personally I trust the word of our Prime Minister. Many forms of boating are sport, no question. Some forms of boat are unquestionably 'accommodation', as in hotel or guest house but perhaps if all the crew are from the same household then so be it. Whatever, I don't see the PM's announcement as sanctioning Broads holidays. This one surely boils down to a common sense interpretation and with the best will in the world I wouldn't rely on the BA in that regard. Incidentally anglers are taking Boris's word to include them.
  19. As happened at Oulton Broads a few years ago, only he wasn't racing but he could have been.
