  1. the pulled pork and cheese melt and the bacon turnover from the butchers were delicious
  2. very nice pasties too, I had the pulled pork and cheese melt and the bacon turnover, yum. shush
  3. when i was at the mill there was a group of kids on inflatable rings, they were riding the flume down into the river, it looked like they were having a whale of a time.
  4. yes I see what you mean, i got a nice steak for my evening meal, a couple of pasties for lunch and a bag of mince, and came away £16 poorer
  5. a lot of this is to do with the ablutions aboard jayne, to use the toilet or shower one must exit the boat cabin and re-enter the ablutions via the well deck, thus if I want a shower, i would rather the canopy is pointing away from other moored boats, as it gives additional privacy.
  6. i wanted the quiet end, up near the slipway its full of paddle boarders and canoists
  7. well i departed Bridge broad at 8 am, i am now sitting at coltishall locks, the only one here, there were 6 boats at coltishall common, a short days cruising for me today. I anticipate a quiet day just relaxing here.
  8. I also think that as we can see from this thread, there are some who have problems wearing face coverings, maybe a larger proportion than some people think, and that it is different for every person, if I was at home I would post the results of my experiment - very similar to the doctors posted but with such a different result.
  9. personally I dont think it is the issue of wearing the mask or not, it is the fact that anyone not wearing one will be subject to some of the same attitudes I see here, facebook has done a supreme job of making non mask wearers out to be super idiots or socially irresponsible. This makes it very difficult for those that cannot wear a mask when out in society, the doctors video has done the same, yet the government recognised that there would be those who for a medical condition could not wear them. the problem now is the perception of the general public. Ian, I have found the scaft i purchased works for me - at least long enough to get round a small supermarket, if it gets to a point where i have to remove it to breathe I will. If you see my picture above the holes are quite large and do not restrict the breath anywhere as much as the approved masks, but if you appear to be making an effort, few will challenge you over the fact that your mask has more hole than fabric, if challenged the easy answer is to say you have a breathing difficulty and this is the best you can manage. I too have problems wearing a mask, and this is my solution, I have heard of people that have worn a mask made of net curtain material, not as effective as a proper mask, but apparently enough to reduce chances of passing the virus on, as it traps some of the vapour particles you breathe / cough out.
  10. there are two entrances, one just past the railway bridge, the second round the corner (you should try it if you get under wroxham bridge) its as quick as going on the river, but if once you get in you follow it round to the left there are some nice hidden coves where you can mudweight (there is also a liveaboard permenantly moored behind the yellow marker bouys which delineate off a section of wooden rails that section off part of the broad that has overhead power cables
  11. I have a scarf, I wore it to Tesco's and yes I can breath through it, it was deemed acceptable by the staff on the door, of course by the time I had walked there from stalham staithe I was already puffing away. But this scarf works for me. Anything more restrictive clogs up with water vapour from my breath, a single thickness tube scarf ( thinner than tee shirt material), was too restrictive after I had been up and down 4 aisles, as I could no longer get enough breath,. I was feeling light headed and as my glasses were also steaming up badly, couldn't see where I was going, so it got taken off. (For an idea of scale this is in front of a 10" laptop screen.
  12. finny, if i was at home i have a video clip, i put a mask on and within 1 minute my blood oxygen had dropped from 98 to 92, 94% is the minimum for normal. if you are a healthy individual, you wont have a problem with a mask, if however you have a breathing problem, it may mean the difference between getting enough oxygen and not.
  13. just be careful of the holes in the banks and the hidden stakes in the banks when walking along there, we moored up 3 jewels and BA in that dyke and visited the hostelry there.
  14. apparently not so quiet, just been visited by the little trip boat, who came to show the punters some beautiful scenery, and got me and Jayne
  15. finally moored up for the day, I have been travelling since 7.30am (with a couple of breaks) until about 3pm, I am through wroxham bridge, I decided on a quiet mooring tonight without people, so I have mudweighted on bridge broad, there were a couple of other boats here so I went right to the end around the corner, and dropped the mudweight in the middle of a little bay there, blissfully quiet (until a train goes past). i have managed to fill yet another 32gb card with video, and i will be heading for coltishall tomorrow. i did manage to also (after 2 days filming manage to empty my first battery bank, this was not only running the camera, but also keeping my tablet with the map and speed app charged too.
  16. i use a polishing rouge on my leather strop, this gives a very nice edge.
  17. if its any consolation i have some great footage of a hubby nearly dragging his wife into the briney in a day boat, she had the rope and was ashore, he decided to go around for a second attempt (right in front of me and right in front of the bridge, she hung on to the rope and wisely decided to let go, he hadnt even looked to see me coming, just took off into the middle of the river, there was someone coming through the bridge as well.
  18. it really depends, the kettle is at the opposite end of the boat to the helm in Jayne. I was planning to stop for water, but when I got to Ludham bridge there were no free moorings and a big craft was just starting to fill their tanks, so I carried on throught the bridge and to the end of the Ant, a right turn and I was heading towards Horning, horning staithe would have had plenty of room, but for the 3 day boats moored at the staithe, so I carried on, Finally at 1.30 and dying for some lunch and a coffee, I pulled in to Salhouse, made a stern on mooring and somehow got 1 hours mooring instead of overnight, never mind, I got the water and my coffee (and comfort Break), so I will be heading on shortly to see if I can find a space at wroxham (the other side of the bridge for certain)
  19. Maurice Mynah, I can fully understand the armband idea, unfortunately armbands of all sorts were used by a certain political party and those they persecuted to identify them to be singled out for excesses, I hardly think we want to go their again,.
  20. this morning was a 7.30 start, 2.9mph down from dilham, under wayford bridge, then carried on at 2.9mph all the way up into stalham, to my surprise there was a Jayne sized space at stalham staithe, so I bagged that and headed for Tescos. there I was greeted by staff, and put my face covering on, anything that covers your face is acceptable, as it shows you are showing willing, my scarf is as much hole as scarf, but it was allowed through. a few purchases made there (mainly a new batch of yeast, the tin i brought up with me had been opened, despite being still in date wasnt doing the job (i think I opened it last year at beccles) shopping done I removed my mask and walked back to the staithe, the mooring I had got was right on the corner, so she fitted where she touched, I am now about to head back down the Ant before too many boats start out from Stalham.
  21. the wild mooring isnt on the island, its on the land opposite.
  22. my daughter has an asthmatic badge she wears saying her inhaler is in her bag, yet even with this and her panting from breath, she has been called out for not wearing a mask on public transport, and its not the transpost staff doing the calling out, they are very understanding, yet other passangers are seeing she is struggling to breathe, and yet at the same time telling her she should be wearing a mask, and how irresponsible she is being for taking hers off. As I said they only pick on the people who wont or cant fight back, as soon as someone tells them to 'go away' and mind their own business, they back down, yet its the vulnerable who dont answer back and are thus the ones targeted.
