  1. as the boats i hire fit under Potter Heigham Bridge, I can normally (except extremely high tides - and then I wouldnt be getting under Potter Heigham) get under the bridges at Great Yarmouth at any tide state, assuming of course I dont mind punching the tide in one direction or the other either to get to Breydon or crossing it, - with the attendant extra fuel use involved.
  2. especially due to the long passage across Breydon and up from Great Yarmouth to Acle or any other Northern point or the reverse, and short days during the winter dont make the passage any easier to match with tide times.
  3. that would possibly be the special authorisation payment. Or just maybe because its not a real National Park
  4. this quote from the above document may answer why none have been seen in Suffolk
  5. suffolk tourist signage policy - https://www.suffolk.gov.uk/assets/Roads-and-transport/traffic-management-and-road-safety/Tourist-Signing-in-Suffolk-2014-v2.1.pdf
  6. Also forgive my ignorance, but should tourist information signs not be brown, rather than an insipid teal colour? https://www.norfolk.gov.uk/-/media/norfolk/downloads/business/licences-and-permits/highways/brown-tourist-signs-information-pack.pdf?la=en&hash=C7A9C49899E5BCA0DC012A74ACE5AF53E8467558 and note the below referenced in that same document
  7. I wonder how this falls within the auspices of the linked document for the reduction of traffic sign clutter https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/43525/tal-reducing-sign-clutter.pdf which among other things states so do we consider the current signs sufficient, or should additional traffic signage clutter be added? ie in the sign at Acle does it need Gateway to the Broads, and Broads national Park, surely the addittion is superflous.
  8. I can confirm that the road to the bridge at acle is not a highways england road, on the highways england map (https://highways.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=6db7a2db20d04c79ab2abe7947f8cc06) this is not highlighted as highways england maintainable that road is listed as maintainable by Norfolk County council
  9. If its not photoshop, there is something funny with the perspective, the angle of the sign in the image means the height on the right increases, yet the spacing of the lettering remains constant from left to right, hence the wording was added to the image, added very well i hasten to add, but as my training as a drawing office manager means I have to spot even minor discrepancies, it leapt out at me that the text wasnt following the perspective of the sign, hence my photoshop comment. if you want technicalities, there is a 3.5mm difference in height of the sign from left to right (on an a4 print), yet the text line spacing remains constant at 14mm across the width of the sign, therefore the image has been altered and the text added, with the perspective not factored in for the text (and yes that leapt out at me without measuring)
  10. 2019 the 17th was a friday today is Monday 13th January.
  11. thats funny mine says Friday is the 15th May
  12. right - I think we have argued this one to death now, and things are starting to stray into the realms of the personal, so before we get any further into infringements of the TOS than we have already, i think its time we gave the thread a rest. if anyone has anything new to add to this then PM me and i will consider reopening the discussion. I have now unlocked the topic for further discussion, if we could all remember to be civil towards each other and discuss the matter in a reasonable way without getting personal about it, the moderation team feel we can continue the debate, just remember a close eye will be kept on the thread to ensure that it remains civil and within the terms of service.
  13. still on about those speed restrictions you introduced to the discussion, to me the speed restrictions are just a red herring. diverting from the main discussion.
  14. i dont see quoting NP and sandford is necessarily anti NP, just anti Sandford for the broads.
  15. Ah well think what you will, i know what i meant when i posted it
  16. ok my only regret is the hole seems slightly off centre, not sure how as it was drilled while on the lathe with it running, but that will be hidden with a bolt and washer that will represent the centre boss.
  17. it would be a nice place to sit on the balcony and watch the bridge transits.
  18. thats the faceplate, its made from ABS and pretty chunky, so brass ring attached and polished up and it looks quite pretty if i say so myself, for a first attempt i am jolly pleased with it. its no contest as to which one goes on the model
  19. Brass circle cut out of 0.15mm brass, scissors for the outer circle, scalpel to cut the inner circle.
  20. so the holes are drilled for the spokes, then spokes (cocktail sticks) added, after these are glued in place, the wheel is cut off from the block and cleaned up
  21. well the teak turns nicely, so nearly there now, just about to drill for spokes
  22. actually i am split on that one, when it first appeared in the arthur ransome facebook group, i pointed out that their major objection (all 10 of the boats moored around peel island) would never happen as they would mostly want to moor somewhere where there were electric points and other facilities. (pub), but my main point was the hypocrisy of the announcement with visit the lake district in big letters across the bottom, on an announcement saying they had rejected the application for on the water accommodation on the same lakes, surely a very mixed message for someone supposedly encouraging visitors to their NP, now do we see that as a familiar picture.
