  1. mind you, when I think of the happenings during lads week in october, well lets just say there are certain parallels
  2. a wonderful write up and pictures. I just marvelled at the, how can i put it, liberation of those days, considering how stolid and upstanding people were back then they seem to have had less inhibitions, skinny dipping at the beach, and the young maidens in the boat alone, and allowing themselves to be photographed bathing, shocking, and living at the rectory too. plus there was erb with his rent in arrears!!
  3. that presumes the man has control of the remote
  4. moved to the side of the channel out of the main tidal flow maybe.
  5. I might get the model of Broad Ambition through that arch.
  6. I always think you should re-read your post before posting it as if it had been posted in reply to yourself, and if you feel it would upset you if you received it, then its probably best not to post it.
  7. I have an issue with this statement, Maxwellian is on the committee of the forum, and as such cannot be a moderator, the committee spend a lot of time and effort to ensure the forum operates within the strictures and regulations that govern the social media we inhabit, unlike a lot of websites we do pay attention to current and upcoming regulation of this sector, so the committee decide upon the framework of the terms of service, the moderator team have the opportunity to comment upon the introduction of new terms of service and maybe the wording, but the decision to implement change lies with the committee. The moderators then work within the terms of service to run the forum and discipline anyone who infringes those conditions. there is a distinct separation between the two roles in the team, though the moderators may consult closely with the committee on the interpretation of the TOS and how they apply. At the end of the day the buck stops with the committee, any actions taken against the forum will be taken against them personally, so as moderators if we are asked to take action against a member by them we do listen, as well as ensuring that the action is fair and complies to procedure. In the recent past on this thread comments have been hidden that would have contravened the proposed addition to the TOS, and under legal advisement we were encouraged to protect the forum with this amendment. its not there to stop you discussing matters, but it is there to stop the forum being a platform for discussion or organisation of prospectively illegal action.
  8. it would probably be better to try uploading to youtube and posting the link, I too cant open the file so I suspect it is in a format not supported by the forum
  9. standards and respect for others nowadays seem to be the last thing on a lot of the younger generations minds, (actually its not just the younger generation any more) I feel I have watched the standards of courtesy dropping throughout my life, and those standards probably are now only kept to by my parents generation, and a few of our generation that were brung up proper. there does seem to be a generation out there whose only concern is for themselves and what is in it for them. of course there are exceptions, these are the nice people we meet, but as always its those that behave in this manner with little or no regard to others that come to the fore. in some ways I blame the internet, which has promoted the ability to respond in a manner most would never consider when talking face to face as the repercussions in a face to face conversation would be far from favourable - the so called keyboard warrior mentality. it takes little effort to see that if people get used to this mentality where they are seemingly not responsible for the harm they do via the keyboard, then its only a small step to transfer this behaviour into real life, unfortunately add alcohol into the mix and their inhibitions are lowered, and their behaviour suffers. it is sad seeing the world heading further this way
  10. there was a big problem a while back in that every climate model in use was flawed, none of the climate models factored in the ocean currents, thus they didnt account for the gulf stream warming the united kingdom, etc etc etc., it was when someone finally factored in the ocean currents that the term global warming transformed into climate change, as it was found that if parts of the earth warmed up, other parts were going to get a lot colder due to the ocean current patterns changing. this is why we only hear global warming mentioned by a few newspapers nowadays that have not moved with the current thinking. so yes while 10 years ago 97% of climate scientists were backing global warming, that was because those 97% were running flawed climate models on their computers. (admittedly 10 years ago the computing power to add the ocean currents into the models probably did not exist).
  11. that was 10 years ago, you are quoting out of date terms now, you will never find the term global warming used nowadays, they have changed it to climate change, this is a topic i have been following for 20 years now, and when they wer calling it global warming there were a number of us who said that the term should be climate change, ten years ago, that change from global warming to climate change was gradually made and the term global warming phased out of the equation. climate change means it can get colder as well as warmer.
  12. ST in some ways I agree, there is no climate crisis, there is just the climate, and no matter what we do, the climate will do what it wants to do in its own unthinking uncaring way. this isnt to say there is no climate change, as there obviously is, but the thought that we can have a major impact and reverse the way the climate changes is ludicrous. yes we can do a lot of things that will make matters worse. reducing pollution, reducing plastic use, and all the other things climate change activists aim for are all worthy aims, they will make the world we live in a better place to live, give us cleaner air and a better living environment, reducing our impact upon our surroundings is good, but there is no need to associate these good actions with climate change in the assumption that by doing these things we will stop the climate going its own merry way. we are overdue for an ice age, these things happen in cycles. remember when maybe 10 years ago, it was all global warming and what a bad thing that was, well they have finally come to their senses and realised that warming in one area may not cause everywhere to get hotter. Climate change is one of the things that may trigger the atlanic conveyor to stop - its been slowing for many years now, the altantic conveyor is a cold water current at the bottom of the atlantic, that drops somewhere in the region of canada, this cold current effectively drives all of the undersea currents around the world, eventually driving the gulf stream, this warms the UK, or we would have weather similar to Canada and Moscow, if the gulf stream stops, our climate will get colder not warmer. this has happened before and is usually a pre-cursor to ice ages and glaciation. Similarly there is proof of the climate being warmer than it is currently, when the roots of giant redwoods are found emerging from the ice fields in the artic as the area warms, this is proof that at some point there were forests of these trees in latitudes now too cold to support them, the size of the trees would indicate a longish period when the climate was warm enough for them to survive at the higher latitudes. So while climate change is a real and provable thing, and it is possible that some of our actions could affect it, there is no proof that such actions can do more than change it in a very minor way, Mother Nature is likely to just carry on and do what it wants despite any effort we make ourselves.
  13. a slight exaggeration, i dont think the forum is up to 2.3 billion posts just yet, though it is a popular forum. to be fair the onus is on both sides of the argument to put up their evidence one way or another. plus to quote that you have not seen Sandford applied to any planning applications in broadlands is a fallacy, because at present sandford doesnt apply here. any evidence that it has been applied and the results / reasons will be found at one of the real National Parks and in their planning applications. I believe that if the Glover report is taken up as per Tims post then the Sandford prinicple will have to be updated to allow for the new variances between the various lands and locales that will then be represented, and in that some controls regarding the navigation will have to be allowed for the Broads, I would hope that at this point some input from the affected parties would be considered, and some historic responsibilities would be maintained and improved.
  14. I was awake at 4, now just about to leave for work.
  15. I have seen zero evidence that it would be good for boating either.
  16. I reckon even Marthams would struggle to get through today. Jayne 2 is about their lowest cruiser having (in my opinion) been renovated with a lower roof line than previously, I reckon she could scrape through at about 5 ' 8" at a pinch. but today it would take more than a few spare bodies to get another 4"
  17. I dont think its a case of election, more a case of accountability, those in charge must be able to be held accountable for their actions, rather than just allowing them a free rein. i dont really care who is in charge as long as they can be held to account for their actions.
  18. despite the wind, the moon is up (and its full moon tonight)
  19. it just seems that if this is the case, why the big rush to get the bnp signs up, or is it a case of we ordered them, best get some use out of them before they are redundant.
  20. ok i decided that there is no way that i am going to cover any of the helms chair up with upholstery, there is too much chance of ruining it, so, i decided that the seat needs to be shaped for the users posterior, out with the miniature flap wheel and two shallow grooves were made in the seat, then the beech dowels needed darkening up. So out with the teak stain, and onto the beech doweling, i am happy as this instantly improves the visual appearance of the seat.
  21. sorry i just added to my reply, re adding a link, basically if you are going to quote huge chunks its good to attribute them to the source with a link. this then enables people to go to the horses mouth so to speak
  22. Bill, it would have been better if you just posted a link to the above - https://www.facebook.com/gretathunbergsweden/posts/recently-ive-seen-many-rumors-circulating-about-me-and-enormous-amounts-of-hate-/767646880269801/ then people could have read it in the original context, and with the full text remember in speakers corner :- Support your argument. If you refer to a document make sure you list that document in the 'library thread' and link to that entry in your post so that everyone has access to the full document.
  23. well for some strange reason the boot fair had been cancelled, so its back to watching youtube restoration videos and replacing the burnt out soldering iron on my solder station (i found one of my old soldering irons yesterday this enables me to go forward.
  24. winds blowing some strong gusts here, I will be off in half an hour or so to see if the boot fair has been blown away, no sign of damage, but the wind through the trees is noisy.
