  1. my abiding memory of rockland, was sitting watching the skipper of a boat advising all newcomers that boats dont steer in reverse and giving them all sorts of useful suggestions, of how to moor up properly, when much to his chagrin Griff in Broad Ambition turns up reversing down the dyke approach and neatly turns straight into the single remaining gap, just as he pops his head up to shout more useful advice, seeing him standing there with his mouth wide open and jaw hitting the deck was a sight to behold - boats dont steer in reverse indeed!
  2. so, in your opinion, were you harassed for payment before you had a chance to go pay at the information centre, as the notice suggests you do? as that is one of the precepts that you could overthrow a car parking charge, as they are not allowed to harass the person parking, i believe this is the sort of behaviour about which BRAG is asking people for evidence for.
  3. nope, the entering the water part was purely voluntary.
  4. I checked it while I was halfway through cooking and turning the dial had no effect on the flame, so I think you may be correct .
  5. Thanks Vaughan, after my investigations, the flame doesn't change at all, so thermostat it is, I will see if one is available. Anyway as I wake to my last day to thick mist, and contemplate packing up and heading back to base I can say it's been a great time on the water and off this week and a bit, a day at home tomorrow to recover and shop, ready to get to work Tuesday. Yesterday, I went for a last paddle board, and had a quick swim, the waters not so cold really, having the paddle board moored to the side of the boat really helps getting back aboard. So just the short trip back to Beccles left to do ( and stuff like packing, deflating the paddle board etc. )
  6. Aha, I'm not the only one that spellchecker picks on.
  7. Now mud weighted at the corner between geldeston locks and the village, a longish trip, where I passed kingfisher and Robin in the new cut, and rambling Rosie and neil just downriver of outlon dyke. Brass rubbing straps refitted (apart from the 2 I have yet to figure where they go) Paddle board is in the water probably for the last time, so I must get out on that in a bit, the sun is really hot.
  8. When I said the end mooring, I suppose I should have said at pyes mill, anyway the wind had a chill, so up went the canopy, and then following that some disassembly of the cooker to investigate the oven issue, anyway after taking the front plate off it was obvious that replacing the thermocouple was a complete removal job, and if it were the gas tap, they don't appear to be readily available like the thermocouples. After that it was a chilled out evening, followed by an early night. Breakfast cheese and bacon wraps are cooking (slowly ), and today I will head round to the waveney and get a few boat jobs done, like refitting the brass rub rails over the varnished toe rails. I might quickly get another layer of varnish on where those all fit before I leave.
  9. Departed Great Yarmouth at 8.30, right on the turn of the tide and had a gentle push out of the bureau, and slack clear across breydon, rambling Rosie passed me en route, and soon moored at the berney Inn mooring ( I think he said something about a teams meeting when he passed proceeded up the yare and turned left down the chet, and have bagged the end mooring.
  10. If there is someone aboard with mobility issues, they quite often Moor them against the ladders for ease of access at low tide, it's not .ow tide yet and the Quay heading is level with my roof.
  11. Probably not, but the Quay attendant didn't comment, and the next boat is completely blocking the next ladder down.
  12. Once again breakfast took its time to cook, so it was late when I departed, passed Kate on spring gers retreat, and a wave and cheery good mornings were exchanged, then it was the plod down to great Yarmouth, I kept at 2000 rpm most of the way (5 mph through the water) the tide changed somewhere between Runham and scare gap, then I moored at great Yarmouth, only about 6 or 7 boats here now. Off in to town later.
  13. There are a few gaps here at the moment, but with the number of boats heading toward the Broad, I think some will be back soon to Moor up.
  14. There is a single mooring there, probably about 25 foot long
  15. Departed wood end (still soft but not too wet) and headed back down the ant, following a workboat all the way to ludham bridge, the wild moorings were all occupied now, carried on past griffs corner ( about 1/3 has been taken over by nettles) down and through ludham bridge, out past st bennets then turn to starboard. Passed springers retreat on Fleet dyke, and a bit later passed Kate, managed to Moor up on the corner moorings ( right at the end).
  16. Wednesday, where to go today, plan was up the ant, but destination? Irstead was full, I had considered Dilham, but realised I would need to stop to move the paddle board to the side deck, as I was crossing Barton Broad, an idea struck, so I turned to starboard, and am currently sat at Wood end, eating some lunch I may stay here, or head back down the ant for a wild mooring later.
  17. Still, with under 6' at the bridge, not a lot is getting there.
  18. I tell you, if I could figure out how to turn off the #@£&< predictive text I would, meanwhile you will have to put up with the results, I swear it's fine until I hit the post button.
  19. Emporium of tat visited, got a sausage and chips takeaway from bridge stones, in my opinion better than greys and kens in Wroxham, departed after that and finally after many previous attempts got moored up at womankind Island, just me and one other small boat here. I was planning a second coat of varnish, but truth be told its too hot to be out there at the moment. I may get a partial coat done.
  20. Time to move, after cooking a couple of cheese and bacon turnovers, that took over an hour, its confirmed the oven isn't at its best. Then I went to start, finding the batteries flat ( short trip yesterday mostly on tickler and 18 hours of fridge. My trusty lithium jump starter got me going, and I was going to be putting in a few good hours cruising, so off I go, under Wroxham bridge , chugging down river, passed up a possible mooring at Horning Staithe as I wanted to get fuel at boulders, 25 litres nearly filled the tank £1.45 also purchased a battery to bring the house bank back up to 3. Left Horning and had a quick stop to add the new battery to the house bank ( dave having left the wires àboard in case.) Then carried on to potter, bagging the last mooring nearest the bridge ( under 6 foot today.), now off to visit the emporium of tat.
  21. That was taken a few minutes ago at castle Staithe, which is indeed Wroxham village (as opposed to hoveton)
