  1. another couple of sets of slots cut, modelling abandoned after consuming some of my cider.
  2. well the workforce have had their christmas do, and now got the tree out and decorated it, no power supply yet means no lights for their tree.
  3. I would think that in this situation, a turf would be one of those log sized slabs, big enough to go on the fire.
  4. 2 stringers have had their slots cut on the second side now.

    Calendars

I too like that page, a memorable occasion, mine was at home when I arrived - our letter box was just wide enough.

    Calendars

that means mine is probably sitting in the sorting office awaiting collection.
  7. and my two tickets in the drinks raffle got me:-
  8. we have the drinks raffle courtesy of all of the presents from our suppliers later - there are only about 20 of us in the office so it looks like we will be well supplied for Christmas
  9. we have just had our secret Santa at work, and I recieved some moisturising beard oil, what did you get?
  10. why? are they not looking for top management potential? surely that precludes knowing anything useful?
  11. still working on the slots, the cold has gone but left me with a hacking cough, I only have to think about moving and the cough goes into overdrive. just hoping it clears before Christmas now. One side is done now. 2 more days of work, then I am off until 3rd January, I am hoping that will allow plenty of time to show some progress.
  12. just spent a while cutting slots for stringers, still plenty more to do.
  13. plus I wont tell you the knots I can tie a double glazing salesman into (especially aluminium windows)
  14. when they start talking I make a point of finding the particular book for their religion in the bookcase by the front door, of course I quite often get the wrong book, and sometimes it is erich von danikens was god a spaceman, or the book by a nasa engineer on the mechanics of ezekials spaceship, and then if that doesnt scare them, I can at will spend an hour going through and comparing all of the different aspects of different religions that really are the same, it took one jehovahs witness three years of regular visits to admit he was never going to convert me - after we had worked through all of his books,, basic and advanced, still an hour with me was an hour less bothering the neighbours, he was a nice chap really, had his own decorating business. I did have a friend who was a druid - he went to stay on a mormon commune and was kicked out after 3 weeks, and the group leaders were sent back to base for re-indoctrination.
  15. working in the industry as I do, it always makes me cringe to see things like that, its dangerous enough when done in a neat orderly manner
  16. The crew of Star Supreme 1 celebrate the season.
  17. Nigel - nice to see a selection of the holey stuff, merry Christmas everone
  18. so I have cut the notches for the first top stringer, sprayed it with water to re-curve at the bow, its been a while since this stringer was made so it has dried a bit.
  19. one of the reasons I am building models - nothing good on tv.
  20. hmm a bit and a bit I think, one a tad large, tother a tad small, 2 tads make it obvious, it can be adjusted and the oversize bulkhead sanded back a tad
  21. Actually, thinking about it, I had better check whether its bulkhead 2 too small or 1 too big (they are numbered front to back 0-6) 0 being the front composite one that is formed in a V shape. - off to look.
  22. today, a little progress, but not spectacular, as I went over to my parents with my daughter, so half a day there, dropped daughter off at work then didnt get home until gone 5pm. but I did dry fit the stringers, and adjusted one of the bulkheads as it was slightly proud, I have found why there was a low spot on the hull, former 2 is slightly undersize. I am hoping that the stringers will fit this without notching the bulkhead, which will save recutting the bulkhead. As previously mentioned more care will be taken to get things perfect on this model (though the gap at the bulkhead will not be seen once complete, which is why I wont replace it).
  23. as a re-enactor in the past I have seen many archaeological theories that in practice fall over because they are just not practical - not the easiest way to do things by hand, Tims theory is sound, not only do you want to get the peat out, you want to then move it to where you need it, presuming the first place you would dig your pit would be close to the river near where you could get our transport. you would then work away from that point, keeping your water access as you work away from your point of origin, so rather than lots of small flooded pits later joined up, I think the broads would slowly have formed as the pits extended away from the rivers, so by the time they finished peat cutting the broads would have been there and filled with water, with no additional work needing to be done to join lots of smaller pits up, why attribute unnecessary work when the explanation can be explained as part of the job, the intervening walls of peat ma have either just been knocked down (and allowed to wash away), or the peat may have been partially recovered by some means.
  24. Struggling through, but here is todays progress so far , bulkheads aligned to meet the keel. now I just need to mark up the stringer positions, so I can cut out the slots for the stringers.
  25. you could build a model boat
