  1. I just like to show off my in-depth knowledge of all things boat related. Have a good trip!
  2. Good idea if you attach it to the boat as well.......
  3. I hope your knots are better than your memory then, mickey!
  4. Somewhere in a box of family photos there is a picture of me,aged about 3, at the helm of a cruiser in the sixties.i don't remember it at all,but it must have sown the seed of my love for the Broads and boating in general.
  5. I'm going as slow as i can,a cheapo smart phone and fat thumbs see to that. It's all them with proper keyboards that are to blame!

    Hi

Any boat that gets you out there on the water is,IMHO,a good boat. There's a lot of folk who would never get afloat if they didn't do it by hard work and sheer determination 'doing up' a project boat. You should see the state of mine! Welcome to world of boat ownership and good luck.
  7. Not sinking is always a big plus! Those deck shoes sound,er,interesting.......
  8. Ebbtide, yes,Heybridge indeed. I don't remember the pub,i was too young to frequent such establishments.we lived in a big old place called 'Moat House' on one of the roads(memory fails me on that name) leading into the village.Went past a few years back and it looked like it was being developed, so it may or may not be there now. Jaws Orca, glad you're still enjoying the blog. I was going to keep the same user name here, but couldn't remember password. The mods kindly sorted a new one for me but I'm quite attached to "watershed' now! How's the Sabre coming along? Quicker than 'seal' i imagine?
  9. Thanks very helpful. Will give it a go tomorrow when I've got time to play
  10. If i can work out how,it'll be a pleasure to post pics. Glenn( PS watershed is on my shortlist of new names for the boat, after all,it's on the water and currently a bit of a shed!)
  11. Hi to you all,a bit of info about me. New to this forum but not boats,The Broads or Norfolk. Part of my childhood was spent in Norfolk,my parents ran the village shop in North Elmham for a while and we later moved to Terrington St Clements,I've been in love with the area ever since. On family holidays over the years, the highlight has always been a days boating.3 years to celebrate my (cough)the birthday we hired Broad land Saturn for a week and had a fantastic time.Even got across Breydon water,no problem! I'm currently rebuilding a 1963 20' yacht which I'm hoping to bring up from Essex next year, maybe permanently. Please be gentle with me!
  12. Whoops.Seems I've (accidentally) trodden on toes already and I've only been posting for a day! The thread title was 'tongue in cheek' and not meant to open another can of worms. Please accept my humble apologies,I'll play nicely now.
  13. Paladin, haven't 'fallen out' with anyone. I chose to no longer post on NBF due to the fact it was no longer a pleasant place to visit. Constant bickering/infighting etc which i have no wish to participate in,but more than that, the constant threat of a thread/post being locked. Not being able to mention the sea(if that is true) is ridiculous in the extreme. The Broads are connected to the salty stuff! My boating(at present) is salt water based,so a forum that won't accept mention of the sea is no longer so attractive. It's a shame things have degraded to the extent they have,in the year i was participating in NBF i got good advice and had a chuckle at times too.I still look in everyday but it really isn't the same anymore. Fingers crossed NBN continues as it is! Regards,Glenn
  14. I don't think it's the Broads alone,Norfolk as a whole is a magical place,i have never had a holiday elsewhere.(I'm not boring, promise!) Given the opportunity i would return to live there like a shot. The Broads are the jewel in the crown though.......
  15. True enough,i hadn't considered the sentimental attachment side. Personally speaking, i know that when it comes to pass that I'm too old/infirm/gaga to use my own boat(GRP sailie thing) I'll find it hard to let her go,unless it's to be replaced with a more manageable cruiser.
  16. I too am saddened by seemingly abandoned/terminally neglected boats.I cannot understand why people continue to pay mooring charges etc for boats they never use or intend doing anything with. There are a lot of people that would love to take them on that can possibly afford to pay the moorings and do repairs/maintenance themselves but can't afford the capital outlay to buy.I'm thinking GRP rather than wood. Surely the owners could 'cut their losses' and pass the boats on for a nominal amount and give them a chance of survival? Or am i asking too much of human nature?
  17. Thank you all for a very warm welcome, what a friendly bunch you are. Still exploring/finding my around, but i think i may be staying a while!

    Hello

From my limited experience (I'm new here too) this is the better place to be. Welcome
  19. You're a brave man, the feminists will be after your blood.
  20. As another defector, all i can say is that i wish i'd found this forum first. Puts the other to shame.
  21. 'one day' boats. One day I'll do her up, one day i'll sell her, one day she'll sink........
  22. My boat looked worse than that when, in a moment of madness, i bought her. I'm gradually getting her back to her best, but I'm not only contending with neglect but poor attempts at diy as well. It's a long hard slog but very rewarding (so i'm told)
